Wouldn't the spin become a lot harder by the way you describe it and damage the weapon?
Zephyr_Sunstrike2026-01-23 21:57
Yes, that's why you replace the blades when they dull.

Fabricati_Diem_Pvn2026-01-23 22:13
I don't think that's right. The blade of the saw is supposed to cut, which it does in the way it spins now. In the opposite direction, it's actually the hook or teeth that will catch and rip into the material, rather than cutting it, making a less clean and more importantly less controllable tear.
Zephyr_Sunstrike2026-01-23 22:18
No, the hook is actually where the "bit" or cutting surface of the blade is, the long structure behind the hook is just structural support
irllyshouldsleep2026-01-23 22:28
As somebody with no knowledge abt saws I would have thought the way it spins in the game is correct. Guess u learn something new every once in a while.
Ecchify2026-01-23 22:35
personally with 0 knowledge it still intuitively looks like it's wrong in game tho
cause why would the sharp part not be utilized to cut, it's not like I hold my knife backwards to use worse side
unless the joke is that it's actually right but regardless that's my thought proces there
irllyshouldsleep2026-01-23 22:37
I mean the way it is rn looks like a smooth slice. The correct way looks like stabbing.
Ecchify2026-01-23 22:49
hm i guess so, but then why wouldn't it just be a complete circle with no ridges at all
Shopworn_Soul2026-01-23 22:52
Saws gouge moreso than they cut. It just happens really fast so it looks like it's making smooth slices when in reality it's digging it's way through the material.
CapitanoGlazing43v3r2026-01-23 22:58
[This video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdG4d3Xi17o) should show how it works. The video shows a smaller tool, but the principle is the same. It isn't supposed to "cut", but rather chip the material away. I am not familiar with the english technical terms, so I might have used wrong words.
Searching "**Disc milling cutter"** on google will show you results with bigger tools as well.
ContinentalChamp2026-01-24 13:25
TIL how saws work. That seems so backwards. Like cutting with the back edge of a curved sword.
TheJadeSparrow2026-01-23 22:55
Nah he’s right, saws do less slicing and more gouging/chiseling.

I'm going to headcanon this as Hoyo simulating the [wagon-wheel effect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wagon-wheel_effect).
The blade is actually rotating the right way but it's spinning so fast that the camera's low framerate creates the illusion of slow, backwards spin.
Jinroh752026-01-23 22:47
I like and support this theory. It’s always been an interesting optical illusion, to me.

Still, 99% of players rather have the option in-game, officially by Mihoyo, ensured and QA'd by their team, than use a mod.
Remember, most gamers do not use mods to play games with a few exceptions for certain games that are just better with mods.
chidsterr2026-01-24 00:15
👀 hasn’t happened yet, I also mod my game too but yeah i’ve had it running for over two years now and nothing so far
Xc4lib3r2026-01-24 01:09
Keep playing with 60fps if you think it can get you banned. Hoyo made a deal with Apple to only have Genshin 120FPS on their devices. I don't think they'll give it to PC players anytime soon.
iodoio2026-01-24 12:57
they could give pc players 121 fps
quinarre2026-01-24 14:54
I'd take the 4k textures over 120 fps though. I can just use lossless scaling for 120 fps.

Genshin was created with mobile players in mind. I think the 60fps cap was to ensure the experience would more or less be the same across different platforms. ios is an exception, I guess, which allows 120fps.

AFierceBaby2026-01-23 23:25
In this case, it’s the game’s low Frame rate creates the illusion
Yannickjuhhh2026-01-23 23:45
To add on to this, it wouldn't really have a strong effect if the blade was spinning the correct way at this speed, as it would be way too slow to get anything done
Rayyan_32412026-01-24 00:03
Very niche, but I remember old beyblade battle videos would show them spinning really slowly and I always wondered why, I finally found out
SoloWaltz2026-01-24 00:07
The problem is that this effect creates afterimages. The blades on teh model are visibly sharp all the way through. But not just the blades, also the inner rotation point.

Cutting some things on a tablesaw with a backwards blade is actually useful. Vinyl for example or some other plastics. I heard some even say it's useful for aluminum cuts.
TheBigToast722026-01-23 23:18
Maybe if you want to hurt yourself and the saw. The popper thing to do would be getting a blade specific to the thing you’re cutting, like vinyl.
the1stmeddlingmage2026-01-23 23:06
If the blade is made of condensed light like a lightsaber would the direction really matter?
spankpewdiepie42026-01-23 23:08
pretty sure some blades use negative angles
Gargooner2026-01-23 23:12
IIRC reversed saw is to make a cleaner cut on certain materials, like thin metals so it wouldn't leave too much rough edges.
Considering Nod Krai and Aino's house is mostly full of metals, this is actually pretty accurate.
Aluricius2026-01-24 00:05

Aight if you don't want it, can I have it
red8cangodye2026-01-23 23:41
I'm no expert with saws but what's the effect of saws spun wrong way?
I thought it will just create nastier cuts as the sharp pointy part digs and shreds the victim up? Rather than slicing cleanly?
+50% resistance shredding? Lol
Zephyr_Sunstrike2026-01-23 23:57
On a real saw the backs aren't even sharpened, they're just support. The point and inside of the hook shape is where the sharpened cutting surfaces are
red8cangodye2026-01-24 00:08
Yes, I got curious and ask AI about this and it replied the same. But if spun in very high RPM, it will still shred skin as the pointy bit digs down and tears it up,
Ooo, and what if the saw was customized to be sharp when running in reverse? Then it will still cut clean while reverse cutting.
Another way is go angle the customized saw's teeth to alternate left and right so it cuts a wider wavy channel, so potentially more damage
DeadLight31412026-01-24 12:43
I'd imagine Aino made the saw because she thinks it's cool, then Ineffa secretly Ineffa sharpened the back and reversed the spin for the sake of cleaner, neater cuts (And to show the child less gore if possible)
Asunaris2026-01-23 23:42
Thanks, I hate that I can now never unsee it
rekage992026-01-23 23:46
It’s not a saw blade, it’s a turbine like an airplane or windmill. So the blade is going the correct direction.
The weapon even has “halo” in its name, like how they call helicopters or those futuristic things that lift straight up in the air halos. So a “fractured halo” is a broken turbine or something.
issm2026-01-23 23:57

lehi52026-01-24 13:39
Its better at cuting in this way, its will not get stuck by bone or armor.
Past-Captain-11192026-01-24 17:45
I mean in affect kinda but if those top edges are sharp (which saws are not) then it’s the right direction cause saws are famously bad at cutting deep cause they get caught
pigshark272026-01-25 04:25
Most circular saws spin the other way, but it wouldnt make for a good weapon. It would pull itself away from you as you swung, and would likely jam. As long as it's sharpened on the correct side, a blade spinning this way would be like a continuous blade swipe, more effective for combat
ConstellationTwo2026-01-26 20:06
doesn't it spinning the other way cause more damage to what it's cutting than just cutting more efficiently
RavenBruwer2026-01-27 07:34
