Is it just me or is there a severe lackage of off field geo DPS?

So I was looking to make a Geo Traveler Lunar Crystalize time when I came to notice… there is an EXTREME lack of off field Geo DPS characters….

We got:

Chiori

Zhongli

Albedo

And Kachina.

That’s about it…. And Kachina barely does any geo damage (it’s like once every second or two with turbo Twirly), Albedo hasn’t had a rerun in AGES and the last time he did was back when he was a painfully bad character (pre hex buffs), and I can’t remember the last time we saw Chiori and she was also a infamously bad character as she depended on Geo Constructs and didn’t really do much with them. So unless you got lucky and got Zhongli, you… really don’t have much of an off field Geo DPS to trigger Lunar Crystalize with any real regularity without Ningguang or Navia as the main DPS.

Honestly I wish the reworked Geo Traveler to be able to resonate like Zhongli because that would fix like… a major issue with Geo Traveler AND give everyone and Off field geo to use.

Edit: also it seems Geo is the second least populated element with only 14 characters. The only element with less characters is Dendro at 13. Oh and that 14 counts Zibai and Illuga. So if you don’t count them then Geo is the smallest element in the game with 12 characters.

That is 34% of the roster. 25% are supports leaving basically 40% for dps. I say that is a good balance.

And don't slander Chiori. She is god dam amazing.

Yeah but of those 4 characters, 2 haven’t had reruns in AGES and one is barely an off field DPS and more of buffer with minimal geo application. Really the only solid off field Geo that applies geo consistently and has had a rerun in the last few years…. Is Zhongli. Chiori’s last banner was in 2024 alongside Xilonen… and I’m sure everyone is pretty aware that Xilonen massively eclipsed Chiori. And Albedo hasn’t had a rerun since the Mondstat Chronicled Wish… which barely counts as a proper run (since very few people pull the chronicled wish vs the other limited banners) and the last Mondstadt one was almost 2 years now.

Forgot that chronicled wish as I still think of her as fontanian but that still is the same issue with Albedo. It was a Chronicled wish. And it was a chronicled wish along side Kinich and Raiden Shogun. You think many people spent their precious wishes on the chronicled wish banner vs Kinich or Raiden? And the few people that did, how many went for Chiori? And it the few that did AND picked Chiori, how many got her vs failing? The Chronicled Wish banners have a notoriously low pull rate for a reason.

beats me, I c6d her on the Xilonen banner. People don't like to spend money on Geo characters because "yellow physical" meme so Hoyo doesn't rerun them often. At least you're guaranteed Zhongli will show up every few months.

what do you care what other people spent their primos on? If you wanted that character, you roll on the CW banner. If you didn't roll, then you didn't want them enough. What other people did or didn't do has no bearing on your chance of getting the character. The avenue was there for you to obtain them. You didn't care enough for it at the time.

Anemo has ONE off-field "DPS" character, and Cyro also has only 4. You don't even know what you are talking about.

Bro this was never a thing. The geo construct was never a problem because at the time you would either use her with Zhongli, who has a construct, or Itto, who also has a construct.

What she was infamous for was being a direct powercreep of Albedo. She was literally dealing over double his damage in the same teams.

I would say anything that can apply consistent Anemo off field.

Like Lan Yan is a support shielder as she really doesn’t apply much Anemo off field, same with Jean. But Lynette, Sayu, Sucrose, Kazuha, and Venti can consistently apply Anemo from off field.

Like if you look at the characters I mentioned for “off field Geo DPS” they are the ones what can apply geo from off field. Navia, Geo traveler, Xilonen, Yun Jin, Gorou, Itto, and Noelle don’t do consistent off field Geo damage. Especially to maintain a reaction like Lunar Crystalize. They are all either on fielders or supports

If that is your definition, then Navia and Gorou are off-field DPS characters because both are able to to apply consistent off-field Geo using their bursts.

One of which hasn’t had a rerun for a while (Chiori) and her last rerun was along XILONEN and another (Albedo) hasn’t had a rerun since the chronicaled wish 2 years ago… and let’s be honest, Kachina is barely a “DPS” and more or a buffer unit to hold Cinder City. That really only leaves Zhongli for anyone who didn’t play years ago.

can you run the numbers for off field DPS of other elements so we can compare? And then give the number in per capita terms per element. Geo has a smaller roster than other elements, so it's only fair.

When you need only 1 per team, 4 is a decent number of options.

Though I personally wouldn't really count Zhongli (The range of his pillar is very small and breaks when bosses get near so it's barely viable), and I don't know much about Chiori or Kachina so I can't say much for that (though if Kachina is a buffer rather than an off-field DPS, why did you include her in the list?) Albedo is a great off-field DPS and the main issue with him is that he doesn't rerun often enough, which can be fixed by rerunning him.

Arguably Columbina is an off-field Geo DPS as she creates Geo-aligned Lunar damage passively, and needs a geo on-fielder to activate the Lunar Crystallize damage. She may be hydro but in practice she increases Geo damage output.

I want to slightly rephrase what I said about another 4 star being "certainly not needed"
I think a good off-field geo DPS that's 4 star would be very nice to have, and I'd love to see something more accessible than Albedo, Zhongli, and Chiori. But I also don't think it's something that needs to happen immediately.

I added Kachina because she TECHNICALLY does apply consistent off field geo damage via twirly but only just.

It is wild to me that geo has no 5* character on the standard banner.. I mean even Dendro has a 5*….and not just off field but in general

Theory has it that Ningguang was supposed to be the Standard 5 star Geo but got demoted at some point

Better yet is to rework zhongli's pillar like for example making his pillar indistructable to enemies attack and also refreshes the duration of his pillars when he cast his shield again. This will make zhongli more viable to lunar crystalize.

The main role off field DPS play (other than do damage) is to either set up a reaction, or to deal damage by triggering a reaction.

Up until now, there's no reason to want to react with geo, because it had no useful reaction, so unless Mihoyo wanted to just make a geo sub DPS with insane numbers (and, looking at Chiori, they apparently didn't), there's really no point to having a geo sub DPS.
