like here is my personal opinion on where I think their design would fit if if they werent from Nod-krai, in no perticular order. feel free to share your own.

Nefer looks like she's from Sumeru. Illugga looks like he's from Fontaine, and is probably Freminent's lost cousin or something. I feel like Aino would be fitting in fontiane with her creations, but not the design though. Zibai is just Liyuean. Flins looks like he's from mf'ing khanrai'ah, bro looks like a corpse. and I feel like it wouldnt feel odd to see Lauma in Kinich's tribe (I forgot their name), the colors fit despite the difference in how the outfits look, even though she identifies as a clothed person instead of actually wearing clothes for her outfit design to be considered in the first place for this. I cannot be convinced that Jahoda wouldn't be THE perfect Fontaine design. Fontaine has a lot of automatons things, Jahoda has an automaton arm. Ineffa would also fit flawless as a Fontainian because they have a lot of automatons, it wouldn't feel out of pocket to have one of them as a playable character.

I'd believe it if Flins goes out wearing tank top, shorts and sandals in Nod Krai, maybe even in Snezhnaya without shivering to death. Tbf, they tend to give the men at least semi-functional outfits that fit their profession or the region they inhabit. Their outfits tend to tell you a lot about the character.

For the women, they... try to do the same, usually. HOWEVER, they also 9.5/10 have to make them skimpy because it sells better.

The irony is that the way they design the men's outfits ALSO sells better.

The men tend to follow the 'rule of cool', and the women tend to follow the 'sex sells' rule. With a few exceptions here and there.

Because their target demographic are young adult men first and foremost. Although genshin has a relatively high amount of female players! I do feel like most of the medium height men are designed with the 'female gaze' in mind tbh (the twink archetype is more popular with women than men). But the tall men seem to be designed with the 'male gaze' in mind more often than not.

Varka is inspired by european knights, so they gave him an armor. Jean is inspired by the same concept, so they gave her... armored gloves. Like, at least they try. Right?!?

Natlan was the perfect environment to have everyone wearing skimpy designs but instead the boys are covered head to toe, then in Nod-Krai, described as frigid and close to Snezhnaya, the boys are all covered up again while we get some of the least covered up designs for the girls ever

I don't even need the clothes to necessarily fit the setting/climate but I miss designs like Cyno and Itto. The polar opposite designs just look absurd when put together like this

Yeah agreed 99% of my frustration with it is just the inequality of it. I don't like fanservice-y designs generally but if you're gonna have all your female characters Like That then you'd better start stripping the men too. Bad enough that there are so few male characters to begin with

This reminds me of what happened in Marvel Rivals. There were initially some complaints about fanservice after they released the Malice skin, but it quickly stopped once they started actively slutting out the dudes as well since the treatment was more equal.

This is a gacha pattern pushing their agenda that women with (proper) clothes dont sell. No such thing as fair in gender in gacha games. We even get to play old men but rarely old women. Call it whatever you like but proof is proof.
