Just play the game, there's no rush. Newer players rank up much quicker since there's so much content now compared to 5 years ago.

I should’ve been doing that from the start, thanks a lot

Do your adventure handbook objectives in the "experience" tab, explore Mondstadt and Liyue for now, do your commissions/dailies, do your quests, and spend resin. Liyue is probably the better of the two starting regions to explore, and try to avoid Dragonspine for now. At least until after the Liyue Archon Quest. It's a trap region for newer players and hell to go through.
If you have any world quests right now, doing some of them should also naturally lead you to chests you haven't unlocked yet or oculi you've yet to gather. Once you get story quests, I recommend doing them as you get access to them (some are Archon Quest locked). Also, using tools in game like the compass and oculi stones, which I don't think you can access them yet, can help point you in the right direction too. If you don't want to wait, there's also the Teyvat interactive map online. I recommend finding oculi first from there, then chests from most rare to common, and then puzzles. But you can also go by feel too. If you're in a puzzle mood instead of a fighting mood, then just see what puzzles you can do.
For resin, I recommend spending it first on the world bosses that drop mats for the characters you use up until you can no longer ascend them. If you can't level them because you ran out of character EXP, then farm the blue leylines (they're the blue orb on the map). If you run out of mora, farm the gold leylines. Once you do that, focus on the characters talents. This is the BIGGEST new player mistake, where people forget these exist and can be leveled up. There is recommended talent priority leveling on the menu that helps you know which to do, but keep in mind most characters don't use the normal attack talent once you're high AR. It all varies on your characters now and who you want in the future, if you have that in mind right now.
I know it's basically the long version of "just play the game," and it's true to an extent. It's designed to take time, but having a clear plan can help make it feel like you're actually doing something instead of running around blind.

Quests, dailies, chests, domains, bosses, leylines, weekly bosses, turn in occuli (I think?), etc. Basically, just play the game. Anything other than farming herbs/ore should be getting you adventure rank.
HOWEVER, be careful. You'll eventually be given a quest to finish a domain to uncap your max rank. You'll get this more than once. If the domain feels kinda hard, you may not be ready to raise your adventure rank. Once you do, everything in the open world will just as difficult as it was in that domain.
