Dottore seems to be not interested in Abyss. None of his experiments has Abyss energy and he doesnt even study Childe who has power of Abyss.
While he did >!revived Rerir!<, he didnt study and use Abyss power for himself.
For a mad scientist, kinda interesting how he doesnt use Abyss power. He more interested in the Moons, Irminsul and powers of gods.

Additionally, Dottore has showcased a craving for validation and acknowledgement. Mingling with the Abyss is basically guaranteed to turn you into an absolute outcast, forever rejected by all of creation.
1) it doesn't do what he wants to do
2) enough about it that suits his curiosity/wasn't the answer to what he wanted to do
Lol, maybe dottore will be playable in the far future
Given that they were natural born users of the Abyss, its implied that that world was blended together with it, rather than being some sort of hellscape. The traders only found out about it after a couple of days, and then ran home to tell daddy that there were Abyss users somewhere.
Socially speaking, it's treated as evil, but there are strong implications that it wasn't destructive to Skirks home. Hell, she *lives* in the Abyss in Tevyat, without so much as blinking about it. And none of her memories view the Abyss is any negative light either, implying that she's generally alright with it.
We know for a fact that Abyssals can live normal lives (Melusines, Skirk), so there are greater implications at play regarding just how destructive The Abyss actually is. However, with Dottore, it's worth noting that he is trying to remain incognito while doing these things. I personally believe the reason he hasn't considered The Abyss is simply because he doesn't want to wake up the Principles when he does ascend - because he knows something we don't about them, likely thanks to the Tsaritsa. Given that the Fatui are trying to kill the shades, if not HP itself, there is a decent chance that he has information about it that tells him it would be a bad idea to invoke their wrath early.
Like a Stellaron?
The man has some deep-rooted fear holding him back, to maintain his humanity. Possibly a blindspot even.
He's smart enough to have studied Arlecchino already and seen the damage it is doing to her as it slowly crawls up her arms throughout a lifetime. So, there was probably little need to study Childe beyond confirming if he had any special bloodline properties to afford better control—Childe's abyss power most likely is slowly corrupting him too, and that is without a doubt why he uses it sparingly only as a special form.
It genuinely makes me think that the ultimate goal for the more sentient creatures of the Abyss is to gain/become Life, that their true motivation is jealousy. Because funnily enough... We can actually see completely calm creatures of the Abyss who don't do anything beyond just trying to exist as the creature they're mimicking.
And yeah, all that honestly doesn't seem like it'd appeal to him beyond "introducing as a chaotic variable" here and there. Seems like a dude who generally favours the natural and human sciences. Just not so much physics.
It's more like not wanting to rely on the Abyss to achieve their goals. Pierro said this:
>"We share the same goal, you, your Tsaritsa, and I."
>
>"Cleanse the sources of distortion in this world: short-sighted, ignorant gods and the darkness and corruption of the Abyss."
Dottore needs Mora from Pantalone and Pulcinella to fund his experiments, which I imagine would need the Tsaritsa's approval. It's like how Arlecchino and Sandrone waited on the Tsaritsa's orders on how to deal with Dottore before doing any against another Fatui Harbinger. A lot of things needs to go through the Tsaritsa first.
Of course, he could still experiment on the Abyss without letting people know like he did with the Three Moons. But I think the experiment on the latter was approved initially, just not what he did with the moon authorities.
>**The Doctor:** Yes, and I am very mindful of Her Majesty's instructions. But you know full well that they do not conflict with my present goals.
So it doesn't necessarily mean Arlecchino or Childe is banned from using Abyssal powers since it's a part of their identity, but it wouldn't be something the Tsaritsa wants to use.
Childe damn near kills himself trying to use the Foul Legacy, which means that it is exacting a price whenever he activates it. Arlecchino has magic abyssal moon blood that gives her exact control over her powers, and even then, she doesn't know *everything* about them. The memory eating is implied to have been discovered as a side effect, rather than something she actively knew was always possible.
Dottore, on the other hand, has no direct connection that would protect himself from it. The common theme of all current practitioners is that you have to be born into it in order to not go batshit insane, otherwise it just eats you. Dottore lacks the breeding to properly make use of it, and there is a decent chance that he knows enough about the Sinners and other major abyssal users to be sure that he wouldn't be able to remain pure enough after the fact to not just get nuked by HP.
Add in decades of study of those who suffer from Abyssal side effects, and he probably has an exact blueprint for just how long you can use it before The Abyss starts using *you* as a meat puppet instead.
edit: And Arlecchino for that matter.
Capitano, Childe, and Arlecchino looking at each other
Dottore values his intellect and rationality more then anything else. It is both who he is and also the means he wants to transcend.
We don't know a whole lot about Dottore's experiments, beyond the fact that he tried to turn Collie into a weapon and killed Dilucs dad, as well as what happened in Sumeru. There is a very good chance that the reason he's staying away is simply because he already knows what will happen, and found the result wanting.
So that wouldn't keep him safe from the abyssal corruption.
But she could not control the Bakunawa, and even the abyssal power he had was beyond Rhinnedotir ability to control. The monster ate part of Rhinne body before going to the place that would become the mare jivari, where it would corrupt time itself before having it's entire body blown up and the mare jivari removed from the timeline to avoid corrupting time through all of Teyvat
**Rhinnedotthir:** "...wait, that lizard was *your pet*...?
...oh dear, please sit down, a funny thing happened...
You see, I wanted to test my new shade-powers..."
**Istaroth:** "...ehhh, yeah girls, you keep talking, I'll be right back, I'm... going to search for Asmoday again, yeah, that's it, bye!"
JK: This was not meant to be a serious or even lore accurate comment.
But no really it's in the history there, he even mentioned visiting it. To him that entire place is a "failed experiment".
he'd only become one if he rejected his god. The abyss has nothing to do with the curse of wilderness
Hence him seeking out other Abyssals for his big fight. He wants a bare-knuckle brawl that ends with his head on a pike, not just having a big rock drop on his head. Everything about him hints that he, more than anything else, wants to be *remembered,* and you don't remember the ant you drop your boot on. You kill it and move on. Skirk will remember him forever, regardless of the outcome.
Given that he grew up as a nobody in poverty, it makes sense that the extreme of his desires would be "I want to be impossible to forget". It's a pretty common wish from those who rise out of it.
In the wider universe, planetary/solar system level ‘Gods’ aren’t really that rare given the insane scaling HSR has. Like, that kind of power would barely scratch an Aeon.
So HP being far above that is not unlikely at all.
And then there’s the issue of Nibelung, who’s the king of dragons instead of just a human and even him being given what’s presumably a lot more Abyssal power than Surtalogi did (since he didn’t have to share), he still lost against HP.
They are stuck sleeping in the sky while the abyss invades the world and everyone else tries to fix the pieces.
The abyss has never truly loss and any set back it has faced has ultimately lead to more progression towards winning.
Alice and the Hex sustaining the borders are the only reason Teyvat hasn't already fallen. HP is incapable of fighting back right now.
Him being sapient and evil is a TWIST because he's so relentlessly stupid you wouldn't think he's anything but a force of nature
I dropped Star Rail around a third of Amphoreus (too much power creep, not fun anymore), but afaik, it wasn't yet established where the Stellarons came from.
They suspected Nanook, but it was that, just a suspicion, not a fact.
1. Creations or twisted by Nanook to serve his own purposes
2. Parts of Ena's corpse
3. They are "Harmonic Cancers" meant to spread the Harmony's voice by force.
However there are records of Stellarons simply appearing naturally so they also must be linked to the Imaginary Tree.
He studied a disease in Sumeru whose ultimate cause was Abyss energy corruption.
No matter what benefits it gives you, you've lost just by making use of it in the first place. It's a poison for the soul itself - not even the god of wisdom held a ghost of a chance against it besides self termination.
It's a thing where perception of it itself is corrupting, for a man as egotistical as Dotorre it's antithecal to his ultimate goal. By utilising the Abyss he basically guarantees the loss of his identity one way or another. Prime usually precedes a fall, and it has for Dotorre to be sure, but it's also a safeguard against certain shortcuts.
Handling abyssal anything is the definition of insane, you're insane for even trying, and the act itself will turn you insane anyway.
But the irony is, he is a lower being himself. That's why he is extremely amused about the idea of gods and aliens, beings that are not lower creatures. He thinks he is part of them, and it just happens that he was born as not. It's the reason why he is doing the things he do now. He's not interested about any other thing except acting like what he should have been, a god. He believes he should've been a god, a person who makes rules for lower creatures.
That's why he is very interested in Traveler, because Traveler is a higher being. But Dottore is annoyed on how the people who he deemed lower beings are being casual with the Traveler, how they treat Traveler like any other person rather than treating him like a god. And why would Traveler be friendly with these when he is a basically like a god?
It's like, if you are rich, act like a rich person. If you are poor, act like a poor person. Why is the rich person (Traveler) friendly with those plebs of poor people (Teyvat inhabitants)? And why is he (Dottore) a pleb when he obviously should've been a rich person?
And he prbly thinks that wielding abyss is like desperation of the plebs to become a rich person.
Alo?
Dottore took one look at Abyssal powers and said: "Yeah, I'll pass on that. Now, those Khaenrian robots on the other end..."
But I get what you mean. I think that's one of the reasons he is so fascinating. The Abyss is basically a cheat code to power if you can harness it. The Five Sinners are prime examples of this. And yet Dottore was able to achieve one of the highest authorities of Teyvat using only his intellect and the light realm.
Just because he is prioritizing research into Kuuvahki, Lunar research, and the Heavenly Principles doesn't mean he didn't dabble on the side with some Abyss research. He even said it himself that nothing is off the table when it comes to research for him.
Can't become a Descender if one did not exist from above to begin with. :D
Considering how much power up fellow scientist Rhinedottir got after Abyss, if Dottore HAD shown curiosity in using it, no doubt he would have been a bigger threat than all of them.
The fact that he seems not be using any Abyssal powers anywhere, coupled with the fact that he did have ample samples to experiment with convinces me that you are correct.
That being said, I can't be the only one who thought Dottore was sounding almost exactly like Surtalogi about how he claimed he'd eventually grow bored of Teyvat and want to venture out to other worlds. He may not have had ties to the Abyss, but Dottore definitely would have been one of the Sinners.
Destroy the world
