Random Question. During Aranyaka, did you think Arama was Male or Female? I always though it was Female for some reason. But I think all Aranaras are basically Genderless.

Some of them identify as helicopters
GravityW_D392026-01-24 10:01
Arabalika specifically identify as Attack Helicopter

> all Aranara are genderless
This. Aranara are plant like spirits created by Rukkhadevata, they don't reproduce and don't need genders. They are referred "it" in some cases or "he", "she" in some
Also, term Aranara is already both plural and singular, no need for "s" at the end
BulbasaurTreecko2026-01-24 10:01
although some take on the concept of gender in a way that imitates humans, like the Aranara who made a ‘family’ and call each other brother and sister, even though they don’t truly understand the meaning.
PandiTati2026-01-24 10:28
Cooking, housing and merchantry are also concepts adopted from humans and don't have a practical purpose for Aranara. They don't need to sleep, eat or trade
Fan fact: in Chinese Aranara use 哥哥 (brother) and 妹妹 (sister) which are more affectionate terms mostly used by children (similar to mom - mommy, dad - daddy), and as much as I know after a certain age people stop using these terms because it's becoming awkward. When adults use them they have romantic/erotic undertone (again, similar to mommy and daddy). Which perfectly aligns with the fact Aranara mostly hangs out with kids and "you can't see Aranara after growing up"

Also the Pringle one with a glorious mustache.

>Also, term Aranara is already both plural and singular, no need for "s" at the end
Ah I see. English is not my First language.
>Aranara are referred as "it"
I Recall they never refer to them as anything in particular, but Reading Dialogues my Mind Gave them Voices like you do when you read a Book and made Arama Female, that's why the question came up and wondered if something similar happened with other people. Like I didn't think until late that "Wait... They Never said What Arama is... I just Assumed female, lmao"
PandiTati2026-01-24 10:50
I think Arama wouldn't mind to be referred as "she/her". Their view of genders is adopted from human society without actual purpose, and "misgendering" wouldn't be a big deal, pretty sure Aranara wouldn't even pay attention to it. They do use "brother and sisters" copying the concept of family from humans alongside the concept of having houses and cooking food. As plant spirits, they don't need to rest and eat at all. Same for genders
imbusthul2026-01-24 12:32
And sleeping for them is kinda like death since no memories are formed when sleeping. When facing extreme danger they hibernate like the one we found in the Chasm, you know that one area filled with green and trees due to its influence.
OverallDiamond20152026-01-24 09:55
I never really thought about their gender
They seem like pets to me, and I never really think about genders when it comes to house pets. Pets are like emotional support species that I have to pour all of my love and attention to
But yeah, anyway... there was a time when I thought Arama as female. It was only until the final scene that I found out he was male ngl
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 10:04
I think It's still Genderless? I don't recall them actually referring to Arama as Either gender per say.
OverallDiamond20152026-01-24 10:08
oh wait really? i thought he was like the prince or something. Must have been a mandela effect on me. Nvm my comment
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 10:10
Oh don't worry, It could be Me misremembering too, its been a long time, I was just thinking about it and the question came in
imbusthul2026-01-24 12:30
Well Rama from the epic Ramayana is a prince.
DeagleTC2026-01-24 09:55
considering the aranara are plants im inclined to believe they are both
MisterSpacemanStuff2026-01-24 10:00
The English text does use mostly consistent gendered terminology for them. I don't know what the Chinese text does.
It's not uncommon for Chinese text to be gender neutral, and English text to not know how to translate that. But I have no idea if that's the case here.
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 10:03
Yeah, The "Female" conception is related to the Voice I imagine when each Aranara was Speaking. Like Reading the Dialogue with no Sound my Mind gave them one like when you read a book. And My Mind made Arama Female ha.
AlaindeshoGT2026-01-24 10:03
Never thought about any of that
SinkingContinent2026-01-24 10:09
There was a quest with group of aranaras that treat themselves as brothers and sisters.
But it was revealed they are only doing that because of the previous Golden Nara (our sibling) and they don't really have inclination either way.
so yes they are just imitating what they heard from our sibling from his/her time with them. They are genderless.
Kpoofies2026-01-24 10:33
You think they are female but you also think they are genderless? What?
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 10:45
No no. When I first played the Quest I assumed Arama was Female, then saw people referring to it as He, what confused me, but then realized they never actually stated Gender and doing a quick search they seem to be referred to as Genderless. Due to the fact nothing is officially stated.
So I was asking if Someone else Assumed A Gender for Arama like I did, out of pure curiosity. Despite Officially beign Genderless
slime5732026-01-24 10:39
I thought Arama was male, since its name references Rama, the hero in Ramayana.
nooneatallnope2026-01-24 10:55
Some of them call each other brother or sister, but I think it's just a vague feminine/masculine vibe, nothing resembling a gender or sex

I also had my own head canon of who are male and who are female and who I don't know, but I don't even remember it half the time lol. So I actually just accepted them as genderless and give whatever I feel at the time
kifune892026-01-24 11:02
He doesn't said AraAranara so we don't br woman
tuskel3732026-01-24 11:24
I kinda assumed some of them were male and some female, mostly because of some visual clues.. Like the one with huge mustachios - clearly male, right? The ones with the "hairdo" like above, girls. I kind of think it as fitting as well, since Arama turns into the tree at the end. The big round ones, like the one standing near the Statue of the Seven - boys, I think. 😄
Himawari-Chan082026-01-24 11:26
They use “sister” and “brother” terms but yes they are genderless. Kinda like in real life, something about being both or neither genders? (I don’t understand plant reproduction lol)
Arananara are cute
riotstrike2026-01-24 11:32
They are plant based. Aranara are essentially mobile seeds.
Squildo2026-01-24 11:49
Them having genders never occurred to me. The same way I’ve never considered the gender of a tomato
imbusthul2026-01-24 12:27
At the end of the day, all Aranara are seeds. They grow into trees at the end of their life.
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 16:58
That sounds like an Insult, lol. They Still have Personalities and some level of consciousness compared to a Tomato 😂
And for me is not that it occurred to me per say, is just that my My mind, just like when I read a Book, asingned them voices when they spoke and it Assumed Male or Female with some unknowns, to do so.
IVKILL2026-01-24 12:00
Male, but never thought about it.
imbusthul2026-01-24 12:26
In game they are genderless but due to their names being taken from Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, the names they take from influence how I see them. For example Arama here is a name taken from Rama. Arani just means queen as that's the meaning of Rani. Like Araja means King as that's what Raja means. Names like Arapandu, Aranakula are all taken from characters from Mahabharata. The names of Aranara are mostly the same as from these epics. For shorter names you just need to ignore the 'A' and for longer names ignore the 'Ara' or in some cases just 'Ar'. So due to me knowing which characters names from the epics they took I kinda think of them with that gender even though the Aranara are genderless.
Though Aranakin is just a meme name for Anakin and they make it obvious with his hatred for sand.
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 16:23
Oh, interesting
imbusthul2026-01-24 16:41
The way they took the words have funny side too. You remember the Festival Utsava, right? Utsava means festival, so basically it was Festival Festival. Then there is Samudra Sea and you guessed it, Samudra means Sea as well.
Marana means death, so Marana's Avatar can be translated to Death's Avatar. But in Genshin Marana is used to mean the same as the Withering. But Withering is a form of dying as well.
Yuukiko_2026-01-24 12:27
"yes"
leakmydata2026-01-24 12:53
They are nara
Magpie_03092026-01-24 13:23
I know they don't have a gender but for me they somehow all look male.
TOH-Fan152026-01-24 14:12
Our quest journal mentions that the Aranara don’t seem to actually have a concept of gender; they just use gendered pronouns for our benefit. Insert sarcastic joke about how Genshin “suddenly” turned woke or whatever those Gamergate people like to rant about.
Cocoatrice2026-01-24 14:30

Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 16:21
Why does that Sound like a Threat 😭
UnderstandingLow16192026-01-24 15:24
Male personality and looks to me
Can't find this Aranara in female vibe no matter how hard I try.
Mean-Razzmatazz15542026-01-24 16:08
There plants you cant fuck them
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 16:29
Who even talked about doing something like that?? What??? It sounds like a You problem if you went there for whatever reason 😬
Mean-Razzmatazz15542026-01-24 16:30
Why does there gender matter
Skitty_The_Kitty32252026-01-24 16:40
It doesn't. But I was just curious because as I explained in other comments when I was doing the quest, like you do when you read a book, your mind gives character voices and tones, and mine made Arama Female and associated other Aranara as Male, Female or Non-Specific with their voices before I realize they are technically all genderless, and wanted to see if someone else also associated Arama as Male or Female since I have seen before people referring to it as Him when I Thought it was a Her.
Idk why you made it Sexual somehow, it was a very basic and innocent Question like asking if someone's Dog is a "Boy or a Girl". You made it weird bro.
Lazy_Length_9292026-01-24 16:10
In my native language, Hoyo translated some as feminine and others as masculine, but I don't remember Arama specifically, it's been a long time.
Also they call each other brother or sister sometimes.
So, yes, for me they have a gender.
Pleasant-Economy71432026-01-24 16:27

Interesting, in my head Arama has a male voice. So I guess I see him as male lol. But probably they are genderless plants
Mimikyu-sama2026-01-24 17:51
I think they're all agender, since... well, they're essentially nature sprites.
