I wish there was the option to pause Adventure Experience by waiting on Ascension quests
I want time to properly farm for and upgrade my newer pulls in order to replace weaker characters on my team, and also to have upgraded alternates for each element to swap in situationally.
I feel that the design choice to punish players who delay ascending by possibly jumping multiple world levels was a poor one.
Adventure Experience is too plentiful, at least up to the mid-30's where I am now. I literally haven't done more than five quests beyond the Mondstadt Archon line. And there are still hundreds of chests and Geoculi to do in Liyue.
I don't want to rush a single team to the endgame before I can concentrate on all my Level 1's. It's sad because a simple option could satisfy both styles of playing instead of forcing one way.

You shouldn't farm artifacts before ar 45 as you dont guarantee 5 star ones before that.
Focus on character level, weapon and talents instead.
I get that you want to use different characters but usually you do it along the way and not build everyone before you play the actual game.
I agree that building all your characters doesn’t make sense if you want to build strong teams for abyss or SO, but if you’re someone who plays for stories and exploration, it probably matters a lot less.
I have a friend who played a couple times a week from launch until Sumeru released without ever stepping into the Spiral Abyss. To this day, he very rarely does Abyss, and hasn’t even done the quests to unlock IT or SO. Much different from how I play, but we both enjoy the game immensely.
The other factor is how many characters OP even has. If someone hasn’t touched abyss, and doesn’t wish on banners often, it’s entirely possible that by mid-30s, they have Traveler, Amber, Lisa, Kaeya, Barbara, Lynette, Noelle, plus a few others from wishes. Still not optimal to build 8-12 characters at once, but below AR 40 you can only build to characters to level 70 anyway, which doesn’t requires nearly as many resources as building from 70-90.
That said, OP if you’re reading this, focus on what the others comments said about turning your WL down by one. The problem you’re describing about jumping too many levels is solvable.
I think it's completely likely that my world level would jump more than two levels, so unfortunately I don't see reducing it by one after it jumps as a solution.
As I see in most other games I play, 99% are rushing to max level and endgame and can't conceive that anyone would enjoy a protracted journey. Similar to how D4 players can't imagine anyone would want to play Eternal instead of Seasonal..
You don't have to "rush a single team to the endgame". What do you even mean by endgame? (like: do you mean the story? Or what people call "endgame content"? Of which you'll need multiple teams so...you can just wait on that).
Concentrating on *all* your characters any time soon is a quick way to lead to being perpetually low on resin, mora, and level/talent materials. It will be very frustrating. That's why people recommend you stick to a few. You can worry about the rest later if you really want to. Heck, I've been playing for almost 5 years now and I've never bothered building *all* of my characters (though eventually I did level them all to at least 70 just to get all the free acquaint fates but even then I waited until I was just sitting around going, "now what do I spend all this extra mora on....?).
The other thing to keep in mind is that as you go up in WL, you need more and more ascension points for each level. Progress is swift for you right now, but it will take a long time to go from, say, 50-60 in comparison to how quickly you likely got to the 30s or how quickly you will go from the 30s to 50. And that's even accounting for how much exploration and quests you still have ahead of you.
Then afterwards you can attempt to build multiple teams at a high world level, when it is much quicker to build characters.
There is a literal solution to your self perceived problem.
