He's a relic of the 1.0 days, and I presume is only playable because kept asking for him. I recently did the Fontaine AQ last week (took a long break after Sumeru came out) and his outfit quest yesterday and Neuvillette hit all the same buttons to make me love him, he's really grown on me.
I've been hyped for Varka as a 1.0 player, but I don't like him as much as I thought I would thanks to his himbo-like personality. I also get that they don't want to spoil much of his skills or kit (not sure why at this point) but Varka has basically done nothing for the entirety of the Nod Krai AQ besides throw his sword at some wild hunt and use ~~Chiâą~~ the help of Nicole to bring the moon down which hasn't helped in me getting more interested in his character as the Grandmaster of the Knights of Favonius that we've heard countless praise of.

Yes, characters like Wanderer, Xiao, Neuvillette, Wrio, Zhongli are more popular, much more popular. However they are in general popular. Varka's single purpose online is thirst. Like 95% of his fanarts and fanfics are porn. It even eclipses Wrio who was like 80% porn. lol So, yes, I think OP is right.

But yeah getting benched in NK+ the leaks isn't encouraging. To this day I still don't understand why the Devs murder some characters like that. I know that waifus sells, but common, I'm a waifu person, I don't like playing male in gacha, and EVEN I wants to pull for him.

He's a relic of the 1.0 days, and I presume is only playable because kept asking for him. With no way to tie him into upcoming stories, and no interest in developing him as a character, they just had him do the bare minimum in the Nod-Krai AQ to still be considered "part of the gang", gave him the most innocuous run-of-the-mill kit, and called it a day. Not out of malice, but out of genuinely having no interest on him as a character after 5 years since first namedropping him.

I've been hyped for Varka as a 1.0 player, but I don't like him as much as I thought I would thanks to his himbo-like personality. I also get that they don't want to spoil much of his skills or kit (not sure why at this point) but Varka has basically done nothing for the entirety of the Nod Krai AQ besides throw his sword at some wild hunt and use ~~Chiâą~~ the help of Nicole to bring the moon down which hasn't helped in me getting more interested in his character as the Grandmaster of the Knights of Favonius that we've heard countless praise of.

This just makes me appreciate the players in xiao, hu, and ganyu mains more. Most if not all of them started playing before or during sumeru.Â
from the national core of the 1.0s to the yelan double hydro core of the 2.0s to the hyperbloom core of the 3.0s, the best teams often revolved around a strong core and an on fielder that took full advantage of it while offering something more to the team
raiden + national core, hu tao + double hydro core, alhaitham + hyperbloom core, the best teams in the past have always revolved around this form of synergy and the flins lunar charge team is simply a return to form
when you see people losing their minds because a team has a 50/50 split between the on fielder and the off fielders, you can tell they haven't been around long enough to see rational, hu tao double hydro and alhaitham quickbloom and how powerful those teams were
He's still pretty popular in terms of his relationships with the other Sumeru boys (Kaveh in particular), but I don't really see people going crazy over him as a solo character anymore.

People thirst a lot about his physique, because he looks more manly and larger than the other male models, and his face actually looks like an adult's, so I'm not surprised.
Personally I'm not playing anime style looking games because I look for realistic looking daddy figures, but to each their own. Give me the goofy Ifa/Ororon/Flins/Alhaitham/Zhongli pretty and androgynous characters.
