It is no secret that Hoyo wants you to pull the newest characters, so mainly since the start of Fontaine they have began adding new combat mechanics outside the seven elements and certain bosses specifically designed to shill certain characters to drive up sales of new characters, but recently all these unique combat mechanics are starting to get out of hand, mainly Since Natlan.

For comparison in Natlan you had all the nightsoul stuff which required you to have at least 1 Character using nightsoul to deal with stuff more effectively, also you had 2 free characters with nightsoul (Kachina and PMC) so even if you didn't pull for any Natlan character you can just use one of these and it will greatly help in those specific scenarios.

But in Nod-Krai they take that stuff one step further, you have the Ascendant Gleam party effect which requires you to have 2 Characters from Nod-Krai while you only get 1 free Nod-Krai character (Aino) so you have to get another one if you wish to have ascendant gleam. And that's not even mentioning the lunar reaction bullshit which is currently only enabled by 5 Star characters, so for example if you want to kill for example the new boss there is a 99% percent chance that you will have to pull one of the Nod-Krai 5 stars to go above menacing in the new stygian.

What's next? in 7.X they will add another party effect effect, this time requiring 3 characters from Snezhnaya to activate, and bosses will take quadruple damage from the brand new Cryo-Reactions which will only be activated by the Tsaritsa and the Tsaritsa only.

This is getting worrying, especially as an F2P. the shill is becoming increasingly more annoying to deal with, to the point where you are forced more and more to pull for the latest banners. not because you like the characters but because you want to clear Stygian/Abyss consistently,
In the first years of genshin mainly up until Natlan you could mostly ignore the meta and only build your favorite characters and their teams to clear End-Game content, but the meta is getting harder and harder to ignore. Older characters struggle to deal with the new mechanics more and more and newer characters make combat increasingly more trivial, this is really starting to ruin the combat experience of end game content.
