Thoughts on Genshin Impact’s story? How does it rank next to other games? (Image kinda related)
I’m not talking about the noskip button, how the game delivers lore through silent NPCs, or the super long/cryptic texts. I’m also not talking about gameplay.
I’m just curious what people think about the actual story itself. from Nibelung to the Thunder Bird, plus all the side stories and lore bits.

It really does a good job feeling like a brand new world as opposed to just another game and story.
I was worried about time travel in the recent AQ as it can make stories so plot holey and complicated but genshin did it PERFECTLY
The main questline (AQ and relevant WQ) are enjoyable only if you also can enjoy dragged out, trope-ridden shounen anime without wanting to bang your head on a desk
Background lore is intricate and extremely rich, and keeps me curious at every corner.
1) *Genshin* caters predictably to shounen anime- and hero-story fandoms without being so incredibly predictable that every Archon Quest is boring.
2) *Genshin*'s environmental and world quest storytelling is outstanding, drawing upon experiences future and past to explain present events and conditions. MiHoYo's writers are almost entirely consistent in their tone and delivery, and it makes for an experience that keeps you coming back with curiosity*.*
3) *Genshin*'s story is accessible. Whether you're a gamer or not, you can find elements of the story that appeal to you, and it serves well as both episodic content (the falling of the Jade Chamber is a monumental story moment regardless of where you stand on the overarching story) and as continuing narrative.
[One of my current goals](https://www.reddit.com/r/TalesFromTheHoyoverse/) is to summarize and archive *Genshin*'s narrative in a way that reads fluidly front to back, and doing so has given me a greater appreciation for the immense story-writing challenge that is a 10-year-planned open world CRPG.
ZZZ is a good story but they are lacking vision and a good villain.
HSR has great story and is plot driven, but can get really complex and long.
HI3. has amazing character development, but has the same struggle as HSR with a very info dump beginning.
Wuwa has great individual story but everything else is bad. It is a waifu collector game where they focus on the half a patch on the banner character then forget the character until at the end of the arc for a forced avenger friendship is magic moment.
Uma Musume story is basically the same around the board. Character overcome their weakness and achieve their dream. This is basically for every character, just with different struggle.
Blue Archive, I feel is the opposite of Genshin. It is Anti lore/world building. They basically eliminated all the lore and world building that isn't vital for the current story. This means they really focus on character quirks, growth and interaction. It is just a fun story with silly moments, dark moments and epic moments.
With all these game mentioned, I think the MC is okay to not really there. (Except Kiana for HI3 Part 1. Part 2...) Traveler is there but can really act like a camera at times.
Personally I think Stella Sora and R1999 does MC really well.
R1999 MC, Vertin, isn't a self insert. Has a lot of character and isn't dumb. This is a big positive for me. She is actually a very interesting and enjoyable character. There are some events that doesn't have Vertin and I feel the story is no where near as good without Vertin than with Vertin.
Stella Sora MC is more of a self insert, name Tyrant. Tyrant isn't dumb and is smart. But you can actually see how their smarts and thought process affect the story. It isn't just like commanding your harem into fighting off screen. The MC actually does stuff like negotiation, creating plans and leading the charge. Plus with the branching story and bad endings, it feels like choices does matter a little.
There are more gacha game stories I can talk about but I just picked the one I played recently.
BA and Stella Sora I play everyday.
GI, I play 5 times a week.
UMA AND Zzz I play maybe 3-4 times a week.
Hsr about 2-3.
Wuwa I play in burst. I would play for 3-5 day straight then stop playing for 2 weeks.
Other games I mention I dropped. Not saying they are bad games, just I only have a limited amount t of time and I am eyeing few gacha games down the line and waiting for release.
But I been playing gacha games since Summoner Wars release in 2014, it being my first gacha games. So I have experience with gacha games story.
2,000 miles below Dragon Age: Origins
It started out only slightly below Dragon Age Origins but drops with every retcon and illogical nonsensical stupid unnecessary fairy tale logic addition. It also falls every time the protagonist is sidelined in favor of a more interesting character controlled by the writer.
