ComfortableTraffic122026-01-24 21:12
Wouldn't it be grandma? Focalors and Furina are the same person technically. Naberius->Egeria->Focalors=Furina.
natzo2026-01-24 21:16
Yeah, people always think Focalors is Furina's mom. They are the same person split in two. Focalors are Furina's sacrificed memories and power, just like Guoba is what remains after Marchosius sacrificed its memories and power for Liyue. It's just that we can talk to the sacrificed part of Fontaine.
TuzkiPlus2026-01-25 01:23
Wait so, Furina is the Gouba of Fontaine?
Vitrio2026-01-25 01:27
Furina, get em
natzo2026-01-25 01:35
Basically. A gods that sacrificed their power and memories. Just that one became a human and other I think an adepti.
Mint-Bentonite2026-01-25 01:49
Yup, more specifically, Guoba (marchosius) was originally a stove god who joined in the adeptus alliance to save liyue during the archon war, and spent all his power to restore the land, sacrificing his strength, intelligence and size and turning into the current guoba
Guoba basically sets a precedent (from the player's pov) for both Furina and Columbina, that gods can give up their power to channel it into a specific purpose, so players wont think they are gods who used 'techniques they havent used since the hei'an era'

Chadzuma2026-01-25 01:29
It's the same as Nahida and Rukkhadevata or Snake and Big Boss, when there is an offshoot clone of you with its own set of new memories and life it becomes its own unique entity and can be thought of more like your child. Lots of Genshin's philosophy and lore deals with the blurred lines of the self and individuality when considered in terms of division and reunification in these situations, and with oceanids it gets even weirder. You could call Focalors a big sister to Furina if you wanted but I still think mother is the most fitting in this case.
natzo2026-01-25 01:32
Eh, Furina is not a clone. It's literally her other half. Nahida is cut from Irmunsol by Rukka, so she is more of her reincarnation, but also a separate entity. It's weirder.
Snake is just a test tube baby.
Chadzuma2026-01-25 01:43
Furina was a new existence brought into the world by Focalors and is clearly considered to be something like a daughter in how she talks about her with the Traveler and Neuvillette. Once again a huge central recurring point in Genshin's lore is the idea of what creating life means, its link to memory, and the persistence/impermanence of the self based on it. Honestly I'm not gonna get baited by instinctual contrarian redditor semantics any more than this, it's simply foolish to act like the notion of a parent/child dynamic between these two distinct characters is some outlandish claim not supported by subtext and larger themes.
natzo2026-01-25 01:56
Focalors is the divinity, the humanity left behind without memories is Furina. Two parts of the whole. Focalors technically created Furina, but she is part of herself. Sure, a new entity, but still made of half of Focalors. Focalors is also missing a part, her humanity that existed before ascending to Godhood, so Focalors is also a new entity.
Focalors loves Furina because she is the part of herself that she wanted to be, just a human without the weight of divinity.
Seaglass21212026-01-25 04:46
Itās even more interesting when you take the fact that furina isnāt just Focalorsā body, but also her soul. She is the physical and conceptual existence without memory, whereas Focalors is the memories/power/archon furina became under the influence and existence of divine responsibility and power. There was never any ācreationā of furina, she is literally the body and soul stripped of its divine power/knowledge self. Even more interesting when you realize furina already existed as herself long before focalors became a god, she is the ābeforeā godhood ascension, but still deemed fit to ascend to godhood under egeriaās eyes as she is. Simply furina.
Chadzuma2026-01-25 05:10
You literally just outlined how oceanids reproduce, as well as how parents frequently attempt to give their children the life they wished they had for themselves
natzo2026-01-25 05:14
Yeah, but Focalors was already a human by then. You're really hard to portray her as her mother when she nor anyone in the story ever refered to Focalors as Furina's mother. It's just... not the case. Marchosius is not Guoba's dad; he IS Guoba. It's the same here.
She tells you herself that she split her divinity from her body and humanity. Not that she created a clone or a double. Furina is just Focalors without Divinity. Focalors is the Divinity without humanity.
Chadzuma2026-01-25 05:28
The entire point of this is that Furina is a discrete existence that came into being 500 years ago, distinct from the existence who had her form before that originally. This is not a case of her simply losing memories and eroding. Those memories belong to someone else entirely. Furina, similar to Nahida, is the re-grown inheritor of a legacy. A quite literal second generation. The mechanism of splitting and regeneration differs but from a philosophy of mind perspective they are unquestionably distinct entities.
Seaglass21212026-01-25 04:41
Bro no. Leave that argument and read the lore, everyone disagrees š
Gabis_Lira2026-01-24 22:06
It would be neither one thing nor the other.Ā
Egeria did not create Focalors, and Focalors did not create Furina. They are both the same personĀ
allmistake22026-01-24 22:58
Wait, I thought Egeria created the oceanids, and Focalors was formerly one of the highest ranking oceanids?
alvenestthol2026-01-24 23:46
Legends say she did create the first oceanid, out of the "first tear", and then all other oceanids were born from the first. Focalors was presumably one of the "later" Oceanids, making Focalors a distant descendant of Egeria.
What is more certain is that Egeria made Fontainians out of Oceanids using water from the Primordial Sea, and Focalors was among one of those transformed into a human.
Robmart2026-01-25 00:55
Focolars does say that she was one of Egeria's familiars. Maybe I'm just assuming things, but I would think there's a decent chance all her familiars were created by her.
allmistake22026-01-25 01:03
I think most of the oceanids were considered familiars based Rhodea's old dialogue about how Egeria hoped to use them to connect all of teyvat.
Gabis_Lira2026-01-25 04:01
Everyone thinks that, completely ignoring the fact that the place where it mentions Egeria creating something says that she only created the FIRST oceanid. And they also ignore the fact that the same site contains information stating that researchers deny this. They also ignore the other reported ways in which oceanids are born.Ā
Now, this idea that "Focalors was a high-ranking oceanid" I have absolutely no idea where you got that from
allmistake22026-01-25 04:09
Well simply because Egeria hand picked Focalors from among her subordinates to succeed her. She was clearly closer to Egeria than your average oceanid. It's not anything stated anywhere, just an assumption based on context. Of course, the fact some oceanids like Rhodea rejected Focalors claim to archonhood does potentially mean it wasnt so much a rank thing and more just a personal thing between the two.
Seaglass21212026-01-25 04:50
Maybe it was a āfitā thing rather than a closeness thing. After all, it is mentioned that furina has the willpower of a god even without her divinity; simply as herself. Egeria probably noticed this resolve and stance and realized she would be the most fit to suffer for years on end for the prophecy that came, and still proceed with divine responsibility, wether as a god or not, since her resolve was already as strong as one. So archonhood was a perfect fit for her strength, determination, and ingenuity.
allmistake22026-01-25 04:53
That makes sense. Egeria did believe Focalors could save Fontaine from the prophecy after all. And further explains the rejection by other oceanids.
Gabis_Lira2026-01-25 07:42
The rejection of the oceanids has already been explained a long time ago.Ā
Some, like Rhodeia, simply didn't want to accept another taking Egeria's place, and others simply had no other option because of the contamination Elynas caused to the waters and lands of Fontaine
allmistake22026-01-25 07:47
Yeah. I had forgotten that part and only just recalled it looking over the wiki. My bad.
Gabis_Lira2026-01-25 07:40
At no point is it stated that Focalors was Egeria's only option, and Focalors herself has no idea why Egeria chose her as her successor.
Define clearly.
Some oceanids, like Rhodeia, simply couldn't accept that another would take Egeria's place. It could have been someone else instead of Focalors and they still wouldn't accept it
allmistake22026-01-25 07:47
I dont believe I insinuated Focalors was the only option, but it is a fact that Egeria did choose Focalors.
And the bit about the oceanids is true. Part of the reason some of them left is because they blamed Focalors for the water of Fontaine becoming tainted, but that was just the after effects of Elynas. That would happened regardless of who took charge.
Gabis_Lira2026-01-25 07:56
I didn't say you implied it. I only highlighted that it's unclear whether Focalors was the only option and that even she herself didn't know why she was chosen.Ā
Where did you get the idea that some oceanids blamed the Focalors for the water contamination? The information I have is that some fled because of the contamination only
allmistake22026-01-25 08:00
I might be conflating different lore, but it mainly came from two events. Rodea's rage, and the something mirage, the one with the oceanid in a bottle world out in the desert. It was stated that after the cataclysm/after Focalors ascended, the waters of Fontaine become full or rage and bitterness and the oceanids couldn't stand to be in it. Something about the way it was phrased made it sound like they had connected that event to Focalors ascencion, but again it's been a long while since those events and I may have just conflated things since then.
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-25 01:05

Like every witches from the hexenzirkel, she had her own curse. She was very obsessed with life that she became life itself.
Koanos2026-01-25 01:44
> She was very obsessed with life that she became life itself.
Did that mellow her out at all?
Frostgaurdian02026-01-25 04:27
Idk, don't think so. From durin Quest, she is described to have a gentle face, yet she is sharp and cold.
Koanos2026-01-25 04:30
I think she was why the Hexenzirkel changed their policy on children.
Frostgaurdian02026-01-25 04:40
Lmao.
Seaglass21212026-01-25 04:57
Not at all, from what we know, she continued creating life only to end more life in mass and quantity by comparison. Creating monstrosities that lead cataclysms and ended villages alike. Heck, she created the goddamned Bakunawa. I even think she may end more lives than ronova herself but thatās just my claim.š
Koanos2026-01-25 05:30
I think Ronova is more of a punch-clock Shade, she is Death but that doesn't mean she actively seeks out to kill people.
R certainly has a higher kill count.
Seaglass21212026-01-25 06:18
Yes definitely, I wasnāt touching on the idea that she did, simply that I believe rhine to have a higher kill count to the literal ruler of death, which sounds ironic since rhineās now the ruler of life and ronovaās job is to claim lost souls after death. Ronova is basically the one cleaning up after rhine, and as such has to deal w rhineās careless bs of creation/destruction.
Popular-Bid2026-01-25 07:55
Nope. I think the only reason her recent creations are not rampaging is because the Hexenzirkel are cleaning them up before they do.
TheSynthian2026-01-25 13:09
Her level of obsession and ācurseā is similar and comparable to other sinners than Hexenzirkel members.
Witches might have obsessions and problems but they are not blinded by them completely or focus solely on them, disregarding everything else. They have a limit.
As Dainsleif pointed out multiple times sinners except Rerir are all completely obsessed with one things. We know about 2 of them for a certain degree and they basically have no limits to achieve their goal.
Rhinedottir creating monstrosities, devouring and merging with shade of life, etc.
And Surtalogi destroying entire civilizations, killing gods, endlessly searching to achieve ultimate strength and perfect himself. He even took on a disciple for the sole purpose of making him stronger one day.
Witches arenāt this obsessed or self centered, they at least have a limit. Rhinedottir is first and foremost a sinner. I think this level of obsession with talent is the reason they got picked out by that voice.
Frostgaurdian02026-01-25 13:30
>Witches arenāt this obsessed or self centered, they at least have a limit. Rhinedottir is first and foremost a sinner. I think this level of obsession with talent is the reason they got picked out by that voice.
I agree with everything you have said, but i don't agree with this, i did say they have a curse of their own, but they are not obsessed with their own things. For instance you got nicole that is an angel that can't love anyone else she turns into a seelie oh and she is silent, barbeloth that is seemingly invisible, every time she appears in the plot she only appears next to the tea cup to talk then return to gaze into the stars. As for alice she is described as the sun, she has tremendous power yet she cannot maintain it so you can't see her in one place, she is on the go all of the time and she is watching over the borders of teyvat just expend all of that energy.
I know that may sound like nonsense, but the witches do feel like that. I would love to be proven otherwise.

Count_de_Mits2026-01-25 01:33
I remember reading a theory somewhere that this whole situation is not to her advantage as it might be but maybe more of a trap/win-win situation, that both her and Naberius were dying because of reasons, and by merging a shade gets to keep on living and celestia gets to have a proverbial leash on Rhine to keep her from messing up the world with more of her "children"
Present-Permit-61292026-01-25 01:36
Same. I hate that she stole Furina: Mommy mode from us
As a god of life, surely she will be reborn. We will soon find out the story between Rhinedottir and Naberius. Also, the reason why Naberius is in that dire situation inside the dungeon in a form of a heart?
allmistake22026-01-25 07:43
I bet she had to replace Egeria as the "beating heart of the primordial sea" after the cataclysm. This would force to to become physically present in teyvat, and thus vulnerable, possibly incapacitated as well.
Gabis_Lira2026-01-25 07:51
That doesn't make much sense.Ā
If it were simple to replace the heart of the primordial sea, Naberius could simply have created something else, as he created Egeria.Ā
And even if she had decided to become the heart itself, she wouldn't need to be reduced to just a heart/artifact kept in a dungeon
allmistake22026-01-25 07:57
Hmm. That's fair. The only other alternative I could think of would be she was somehow injured or contaminated by the abyss after the event left behind teyvat, where she would be vulnerable, instead of somewhere like up in celestia or wherever it is the shades hang out.
I guess there just isnt enough about it to speculate on right now. Hopefully it'll get answered eventually.
Gabis_Lira2026-01-25 08:03
I also believe that Naberius was wounded/defeated by something/someone during the cataclysm, and this hasn't been revealed yet so as not to undermine the all-powerful aspect that the Shades still possess.Ā
Another possibility I consider is that this happened to her even before the cataclysm.Ā
But, in fact, we can only wait to find out
kumano282026-01-25 09:17
I have a wild guess not sure if itās possible tho. Each shades have its own agendas against HP. Maybe she helped Egeria in transforming Oceanids to human form and as a punishment from HP she was locked inside the dungeon with Egeria. I remember Egeria was imprisoned. It is just a wild thought hahahahaha
