Considering that Melusines were considered as a breed of monster ~400 years ago, and Carole had to die, Vautrin had to give up his freedom and Neuvillette had to pass a bunch of laws (explicitly to protect them from persecution) before they were accepted into Fontainian society — about 400 years ago.

Furina and Neuvillette were in control since before the Elynas incident, so there was no point in the history of the Marechausee Hunters where they were hunting the Melusines.
The Marechausee Hunters *employed* the Melusines, so if anything, they were *more* accepting of them than the average citizen.
The Marechausee Hunters used to hunt abyssal monsters and Melusines were persecuted by Fontainian (namely by Neuvillette's political opposition), but the Marchausee Hunters did not hunt Melusines bro. The timeline does not line up.

I think it's permanent quest. I'm not 100% sure though, but iirc there was no time limit shown. Check your event list. The quest is called "a gift from the sea spirits"
