Just got back to Genshin. Extremely overwhelmed, pls help 😭😭
TBH my Genshin account and its characters has always been bad. I had always been a playing for fun type and never pulled for meta. Now that I’m back, I don’t know where to start or if I would even survive unlocking the new maps. Should I just restart fresh?
I also just wanted to ask who I should pull for, since the meta has shifted, what teams I should focus on, and which character I should work on building first!
I used to main Xiao and I wish I could make use of Baizhu, but I really don’t know if thats ideal or where to begin. Help would be appreciated!! 🙏
Thank you in advanced!

It looks like you have a few years of catching up to do, so don't sweat it. Just play for fun.
After you've done that, you can form Xiao's best team (which is currently Furina Xianyun Faruzan, and if that is going to change it will probably involve replacing Furina but not the other 2) by collecting the characters required.
Trying to make your Xiao work right away with your current roster will bum you out.
Columbina shines in a setting where she accompanies another lunar character (Ineffa-Nefer-Zibai-Flins-Lauma so far, but we might get more) but will be underwhelming until you get one of those.
Neuv and Zibai are on-field DPS. Neuv-Ineffa is a potent combination and so is Zibai-Bina and Bina-Ineffa.
wish if you like them(or wait for re-runs).
Yes, it will be overwhelming but the game more or less is the same, just with more regions and some more mechanics. There's no ground breaking change
As for pulls, I suggest you can go for Columbina right now as she is on banner right, and latest cracked support. If you are lucky, you can also try for Neuvillete in the second half banners. As this is lantern rite patch, and you just came back, you will have tons of pulls.
As for the story, just go on with your usual pace. And I wouldn't recommend using the quick start which comes on the event page since it can break immersion
Since u have both Wanderer and Baizhu, I believe you left around at the end of Sumeru? U have two more regions to catch up until current one. So, u don't have to rush. You can catch up quite easily.
As for all the mechanics they have added, I am not gonna list them. You u wanna ask I Will be happy to do so.
Welcome Back Traveler
There are new reactions right? What characters do think I should get or build to make it easier for me to make good team comps? 😅
If u absolutely need to know current Meta characters: Then that would be Columbina, Flins, Lauma, Nefer, Mavuika, Skirk, Escoffier, Furina, Neuvillete. There's more but I would refrain from telling u cause some are spoilery of the story. But again, u don't need to care about Endgame, since u r just catching up, so just enjoy, explore and chill in game.
Also, brace urself, this is going to be long.
As for mechanics and qols, I will just list them. Before that, they added two more Endgame modes but you don't need to worry about them right now, just catch up. Now for mechanics and qols:
Two major changes are Capturing radiance and Temper(something something) event.
>Capturing radiance essentially makes it so that you cannot go on a losing streak of 50/50s. Like at most, u can lose 3 50/50s in a row. If u lost 3 50/50s in a row, ur next two 5 stars are guaranteed. One will be the normal guarantee u get on losing, second would be the 50/50 converted to guarantee. After that it's back to normal again. It's worth noting that this capturing radiance can be triggered on ur 1st and 2nd 50/50 too but that chance is very low.
>Next is, the temp event, this event is a permanent event addition to game. U just have to condense resin and do commissions 5 times a week. And after 8 weeks, u can get a free character constellation of the characters u own from a pool of characters. This is especially strong with the buffs of older characters they added(I will talk about it in a bit).
>We have a story timeline in the game now. The story quest section in the quests tab has been replaced with a story overview menu. U can use the timeline to do the quests in chronological order. Best way to do the stories. Also, u can also now replay past story cutscenes. This was just added this patch in-game.
>Now, as for buffs. Many multiple Mondstadt characters got buffs but they are not directly unlocked. You have to do some mini quests to unlock them. I don't know if u have heard of Hexenzirkel or not, but it's tied to them. If u don't know about them, I believe just u can just do them later after catching up to Natlan first. U will see a "Witches notebook" in-game. That book will be it. I am not sure about this, but this one might be locked for u depending upon ur AR. Anyways, I would recommend just progressing normally for now.

Now, below two qols are related to meta and character building. If u don't wanna know about them, just glance across.
>We have an artifact transmuter. It essentially helps you create custom artifacts with a selection of two substats, where two rolls are guaranteed to go in your selected substats. It looks like a typewriter and uses Elixirs to create artifacts. Said Elixir can be found in Natlan open world and level up "tree" of Natlan. It's also given in some events and in Endgame. It's just a meta thing so you don't need to direct focus on it right now, but it's good to know
>We have reroll feathers now. It lets u reroll a fully levelled up artifact giving u the option of selecting two substats u want rerolls to go into. Just like transmuter, it also has 2 guaranteed rolls in selected substats.
The game has been releasing characters in which are reliant on other characters, basically Nefer will do barely any damage without Lauma. Definitely play the characters you want but make sure you’re pulling characters which can actually do enough damage to move on to harder quests. Good luck and hopefully it gets easier soon!!
I would look up the best teams for your favorite characters and get the characters you're missing. It's gonna be a while before you do anything that requires meta characters so don't really worry about that, unless you know for a fact a lot of your enjoyment will come from completing the toughest endgame mode.
