How odd would it be to see something 3D as a 2D being?

[Oh boy you're gonna love this rabbit hole.](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YwJeD1DH1zs)
Nature didn't intend for us to comprehend 4D objects, so imagine the confusion of 2D people if you were to poke your hand through their plane of existence and pull it out again.
Out of thin air, 3 disconnected circles spawn into their universe in a straight line. A few moments later a 4th one appears. And then a 5th one. They continuously shapeshift through no known mechanism until 4 of them suddenly merge together at once. And then the 5th one joins shortly after.
Imagine if you moved your hand around or poked it in and out in random places. Now you're a straight up reality-bending, teleporting anomaly - SCP-style - as they're panicking about the cross-section of your hand defying all known physics of locomotion with no way to predict whether it'll punch a hole into someone's body next.
It looks intuitive to you and you might just be harmlessly playing around. But to them your mere presence is a lovecraftian horror they have no hope of grasping in its true form. All they know is that your shadow could cast itself into any region of space at any given moment and leave behind nothing but vacuum where matter used to be.
Alternatively, their plane is an infinitely sharp knife that will pass right through the quarks that make up your atoms. Or they could cut off your finger before you even felt anything.
PS: Thanks for reminding me to check on how the development of Miegakure is doing
Edit:
> The tremendous technical challenges of creating a 4D game engine mean that as of January 2026, the game is still in development with no announced release date.
Oh Jesus

At the crossroads, do not turn left. But to your ana, you'll see a [toybox made by the researchers behind Miegakure](https://youtu.be/0t4aKJuKP0Q), and to your kata you'll see a [playable 4D Minecraft game](https://youtu.be/u8LMyWcKL_c)

*[Flatland](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatland)* is a novella about this very question. Highly recommended, especially for the price. (Free; it's from the late 1800s.)

This is not accurate (like mathematically), but a video game titled Fez play around this topic. It's great if you like puzzle games!
