I wish they'd do something with the old regions.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the work the devs have done and given us, and I appreciate every new region and subregion wholeheartedly. But after exploring, which personally takes me time (I'm not a speedrunner), the map is left...empty. Sure it can be fun to look around, find new Easter Eggs, details, maybe for some photos, maybe meeting with other players in Co-Op at old locations, but that's it.
Genshin content is already huge, especially for new players, but for old players, I wish the map got small, frequent updates, because right now they mostly occupy space. Maybe a cycle of little events that add something to the old regions.
I don't have a fixed solution though, if you have a better idea, let me know!
I love the every single region and I do not wish for them to get deleted for the sake of the storage, but I do wish for them to serve some purpose.

Same with Genshin. Thigh instead of own, they don't know if people have completed those areas. Can't tell them to go to the middle of Enkonomiya if too many people haven't even opened the map.
It's a shame honestly. Some of these areas are awesome.
The only real solution to this the FFXIV model where every expansion plot is required to do the new one. So you know everyone has these areas opened up and completed. But that's unrealistic for this game at this point.
So that event was just a cheap way to bring back the feeling of exploration in the early game, where the content ran out too quickly.
Like the archon quests give you insight to current politics of the world and current events.
But the world quests give you varying ideas on how we reached, what are some of the consequences born from moments only glanced at the archon quest and such.
The aq give insight to the people of teyat, the world quest give insight to the world and history of teyvat.
Because what you're describing is...kind of what happened in later regions.
Like natlan in particular has a world quest that spans every section where there isn't a human settlement/tribe and it was update along the expansions.
Those quests take you all around the world to adventure with him in natlan in a bunch of filler or side stuff.
But he also a huge story that's almost like a second archon quest taking you through different areas like ochanatlan and the dragon city.
In 5 days Liyue is getting Lantern rite
In like 40 Mondstadt is Getting "Windblume"
Every single region has yearly events, they just simply cant have an event on every region for every single patch, nor they can just add more stuff for the sake of adding more stuff to do on older regions on every patch, specially if compases either do not work(dragonspine) or simply use the old model(every other non Nod Krai region)
Games are meant to be completed, delaying the inevitable is just a bandaid fix that doesnt solve anything
Stuff like chests, Seelies, puzzles, and time trials are basically impossible to add unless they want to make every area super cramped. I suppose it's possible to make new ones appear only after certain ones have been cleared already, but that's a lot of effort for a really small change. There are some areas where they definitely could add stuff (northern coast of Sumeru, for example), but besides them this would just be too much work for too little gain.
However, I could see new quests being a reasonable possibility. There are many areas that have no quests in them where they could make some. I also think it wouldn't be too troublesome to unlock new quests after old ones have been completed. The quest system already deals with stuff like that frequently, so it isn't like they'd be adding an entirely new mechanic or anything like that. It also helps that quests are far more impactful than a couple chests, so the effort that goes into making them would be far more appreciated and worthwhile.
I do have to wonder whether it'd be better to add some kind of notification for players that new quests have appeared or if they should just let players stumble across them on their own. There is a certain magic to finding new things in places that you've already explored, but there are also a lot of players that strive to 100% complete every area. Constantly having to go back and check everything again on new updates would probably get tiresome for them. Or perhaps they'd enjoy it? I'm not entirely sure.
One other thing I'd like to point out is that while the majority of the maps may end up useless to some players after they've completed them, it should be noted that things like domains, fishing spots, enemy farming routes, and material spawns are all a part of the actual map. You never know when you'll next get a character that needs a material that you can only find in Inazuma or Liyue. Of course they could extract all of these things and put them in one easy shop where you could buy everything all at once, but that wouldn't be very fun, imo.
TLDR: I'd like new stuff too, but trying to add things in a sensible way is difficult. Also, you might not realize it until you need them, but the map has a lot of necessary materials and domains littered all over it. Simply removing locations would severely impact the way we gather resources for characters.
