who should i get from this event
(image taken from wiki) im a new player, so it’d be nice to have a character that is relatively beginner friendly. i dont have any preferences, really. all the girls are gorgeous and the men are… there, i guess. any advice on who i should consider?

The less fun answer: None of these characters are particularly good in any way with the singular exception of Mona. They're more than able to clear story content of course, but none of them are winning any awards.
My recommendation: If you're new, and you're anything like I was when I started, a healer will be an invaluable asset to save resources and make the gameplay experience more comfy. For that alone, I might recommend Jean or Yumemizuki Mizuki. Jean is easier to level up, since she's a Mondstadt character and her materials are much easier to get, but both will work fine. A bonus of them being Anemo is that they also work quite well with the Artifact set Viridescent Venerer, which is a great support set that doesn't need high quality pieces.
It's important to remember that, if you play this game long term, you'll end up with plenty of these characters eventually. You can also get one guaranteed from this event every year, so don't be too hard on yourself if you pick a character you don't end up liking.
So a comfort character for beginning AND (periodically) the late game powerhouse
Mizuki is a good choice if you don't have a good exploration team, being able to fly and dash around with her is really useful. You generally want 2 characters with a movement skill so you can alternate their cooldowns for full uptime. Mavuika is the best exploration character overall (while also being the best DPS)
Mona did get buffed but it seems like her use is still pretty limited, esp before C2. Her animations look cool but her unique dash is laggy in combat with a lot of dead recovery frames
However, picking something as rare as a 5* selector only based on how beginner friendly they are is likely going to bite your future self that will have a proper account and might be missing for it an important character like Mona who can be really good in certain endgame meta teams even though she's quite hard to play.
In the end the boring answer is to play whatever you like, but keep in mind that picking a 5* based on how beginner friendly they are can be a dangerous choice for your future account.
And old OG team was Mona, Sucrose, Bennett, which is super beginner friendly, and good for nuking the early bosses.
Mona is the second best option but her buffs are not that good outside of Hexerei teams and there are reaaaally good hydro supports anyway!
Jean: Healer and crowd control. Her Elemental Burst creates a healing field and her Elemental Skill can suck in and immobilize small enemies.
Diluc: Damage dealer, with both Burst and Skill doing lots of Pyro damage.
Mona: Damage buffer and crowd control. Her Burst makes enemies extra vulnerable to damage they take, and her skill is a taunt, distracting them away from your characters. Also has a unique sprint that allows her to run across water.
Keqing: Fast-paced damage dealer. Zips around a lot and deals lots of Electro damage. Her skill can be used to teleport to high places when you hold it down.
Qiqi: Powerful healer. Her skill set up a healing field that heals your active character, and her Burst marks enemies in a way that causes your characters to receive big heals when you attack them.
Tighnari: Damage dealer and crowd control. His Burst does big Dendro damage. His skill taunts enemies and also allows him to use several Charged Shots in a row.
Dehya: Damage mitigation and Pyro application. Her Skill sets up a field that transfers some of the damage your characters take to her - and she auto heals once she gets low on HP. It also adds Pryo damage to some of your characters' attacks. Her Burst is a series of punches that do Pyro damage.
Mizuki: Damage dealer and healer. Her Skill causes her to float around firing Anemo blasts that do extra damage when they trigger the Swirl Elemental reaction. Her Burst summons a companion that drops healing snacks that can also explode and damage enemies. Her floating can be used to cross water or fly for a bit.
But unless you plan on specifically going for these characters, I'd recommend Jean instead because she's comfy to have for the early game thanks to her healing (and easy materials to get) and can still cheese some bosses to this day.
The rest are honestly not really worth considering from a meta perspective unless you just really like them, in which case obviously pick who you like most.
Mona<jean<tignari<mizuki/dehya<keqing<qiqi<deluc.
Mona has the best value bc of her Q buff + witch teamup, her cons are also solid for a standard unit (c1 buffs some reactions and c4 gives free crit).
Jean is a good aoe healer and can apply VV set to shred resistance, she's also been useful in the new endgame mode lately.
Tignari is probably the best DPS option from the list, he takes some cons but he's usable if you invest into him as a DPS.
Mizuki/dehya imo have the same value, they both need high cons to be useful and are actually pretty solid at high cons. Dehya is definitely more new account friendly bc she can apply off field pyro and gives resistance to interruption. Mizuki on the other hand can do solid swirl dmg and also shreds resist with VV, her exploration is also probably the best out of anyone on this list (mona is good too but she consumes stamina).
Keqing can work in some dendro teams but atp she's vastly outdated, her numbers are just too low.
Qiqi gets memed on a lot and she's honestly pretty bad, but for newer accounts her healing is pretty good.
Then we have deluc, imo he's easily the worst option from the list. He attacks slow, his numbers are low, and while he can do damage he needs high investment and premium teams to work. So yeah if you like him he can work but you really gotta like him to commit to his teams.
Right now I would say highest value is mona, but she only starts being good around mid-game, by that I mean you need her to be level 70, have good artifacts that provide her with enough energy recharge (so basically ar50< cause it's not worth it to farm artifacts before that) and be comfortable with rotations
Tighnari is good right from the start, only real burden is going to sumeru for his ascension materials
Jean is best if u need a comfortable healer
Pick others only if you like them
- SS (SUPER Standard) - Jean, Mona
- S - Keqing, Tinari
- A - Diluc
- B - Dehya, Mizuki
- C - Qiqi
Jean is a good mix of short and long term use. She´s a great teamwide healer in the short term and can double dip later on as a buffer.
Mona is the best option by far in the long term. She´s the only character here that has genuine meta relevance. However, in the short term, she won´t seem all that powerful.
Dehya is useful in extremely specific niche cases in the lategame which you probably won´t even find yourself in. Qiqi is utterly useless at the present time.
I´d recommend mona. The early game has many solutions. The late- and endgame, not so much lol.
In the long run, you´ll likely bite yourself in the ass for not picking her lmao.
* mona: after she got buffed recently, she's actually a very strong support, even in endgame. does require another hexrei character to be effective, but you can get one for free.
* jean: a pretty solid healer and nice for the earlygame, but doesn't see much use later on, aside from some niche use-cases.
* tighnari: pretty decent dps overall
* keqing: okay-ish dps I think? maybe she's bad by now? I haven't really paid attention to where she sits in the meta. any dps is gonna be better early on, so she'll be strong at the start.
* mizuki: good early on, not too great later on.
* diluc: can be pretty good early on, but is very bad later on. can be played effectively in a plunge team, but then you're not really playing diluc anymore.
* dehya: bad sustain and bad dps. her energy needs are too steep for her to be especially great early on. however, she has very strong constellations and can be competent with a lot of constellations, although with powercreep, who knows for how much longer.
* qiqi: bad
You'll also get a freebie 4* for Lantern Rite, and I recommend Xingqiu. Between him, Jean, and the free Xiangling for early spiral abyss rewards, you'll have a solid core
But most importantly, you can use her skill to bully enemies
But honestly anyone you like the look of.
I'd avoid Mizuki as her "intended" playstyle requires multiple off-field PHEC units which you simply don't have. And Qiqi will haunt your account sooner or later...
Also sumeru and inazuma is hard to reach before finishing the stories. So myb skip dehya, tighnari, mizuki.
But in terms of utility I'd say Jean > Mona. Jean will provide great healing for you in the early-game to help you power through basically anything while also having some utility in the end-game content. Mona also, but to a lesser degree because there are better hydro limited characters that you would be able to get if you stick with this game.
That being said, for end-game content, all these characters will at least help you progress through the game until you have the resources to get better characters that you can use longterm. So for the short-term, are you looking for a main damage dealer that you can play on-field, a supportive damage dealer, or a healer?
For exploration and overworld : Mona has a spetial sprint and keqing skill can be usefull for exploration
Carry you rn: Tignari > Kq > Diluc
Rest: Pretty much dead slots
P. S. Don't buy that Jean praise, she's useless pretty much unless you want to throw some mobs for fun.
If I had jean on the first pass I would've grabbed her but both are a good choice depending on your play style.
