What's up with Nod Krai visions and Moon Wheels?

Is there a lore reason why some Nod Krai characters have visions (4 stars) while others have moon wheels (5 stars)? IIRC, there were talks prior to the Nod Krai release that Nod Krai having no Archon meant they also don't have vision bearers. Obviously, that's not right since Aino and Jahoda (and probably Illuga as well) have visions. However, I'm confused why that's the case. We're we ever told why?

The distinction between vision and moonwheel comes from the identity of the giver. If the giver is an archon/sovereign then they get a vision. If the giver is a moon goddess then they get a moon wheel.

The archons are divided by elemental authority so an electro vision wielder in Mondstadt like Lisa still got her vision from Ei, not Venti because Venti will only provide anemo visions. The archons have no control over giving the visions, it's automatic and a system created by celestia itself.

The sovereigns are also divided by elemental authority, however unlike the archons they consciously provide it. So Neuvillette gives hydro visions.

Finally the Moon Goddesses are omni-element as such don't care about element when giving out moon wheels. The moon wheels only appear to Nod Krai characters because the land of Nod Krai itself is the body of the 4th moon that failed to ascend to the heavens. >!If you've completed the latest archon quest then you'll know that Columbina is now the Welkin Moon/Heavenly Moon and the tri-lune goddess) she also sprinkled her own body into the very land of Nod-Krai, hence why those who call it home have moon wheels. This is also why gameplay wise even though Columbina is hydro she can still deal dendro, electro and geo damage with her E skill.!<

As for why only 5\* units get moon wheels, while the 4\* Nod Krai users get visions. I just go with the Doylist perspective: Hoyo wants your money.

I know all that. My question is mainly why some Nod Krai characters, specifically the 4 stars, have visions. Yes, I know the meta reason. I'm asking about the in-world explanation for it.

Then there is no official reason.

Some argue that on a case-by-case basis. Lauma is a believer in Columbina so she got one. Ineffa and Flins are actually ancient beings. And Nefer was a Ningguang situation where she got a deactivated moon wheel and was able to get it to glow again. Zibai got hers way back from the original moons hence why her moon wheel is different in design.

Because for lore reasons moon wheels allow characters to trigger lunar reactions. Aino, Jahoda and Illuga on their own can't trigger lunar reactions.

It doesn’t have to be, though. Especially since characters who can trigger lunar reactions have that feature included in their kit. "<character> triggers <lunar reaction>" so it will be easily understood that if the kit doesn't say they trigger it, that means they don't. The lunar wheel doesn't have to be the reason. They already have a precedent with this through Nilou. She's the only character who can trigger bountiful harvest.

But that's not how the devs made it, I'm explaining what is in the game, not what I want it to be.

And the devs made it so that only Moon Wheels can trigger lunar reactions, and none of the 4\* have moon wheels and so can't trigger them.

Edit: this is actually why the main criticism of the Nod Krai patch is that the lunar reactions are pay-to-win since it relies exclusively on 5\* units.

Rarity is not a "in-world" concept, so the explanation you seek doesn't exist. If, let's say jahoda had a moon wheel, then she would be a 5* probably (with exactly the same lore contribution). Same for aino or illuga.

Or your concern is why not everyone from nodkrai doesn't have moon wheel? Because many doesn't come from nodkrai at all, and even then, nod krai is part of the cryo nation, so they can get visions too. Like, in monstadt they also get electro or hydro visions, even if their archon is anemo. Same concept.

Ineffa technically is from Natlan and got her moon wheel in Natlan too.

They do have tho, they just can't decide who get's them. And still why should Nod-Krai not get visions? Your logic "Nod Krai having no Archon meant they also don't have vision bearers" doesn't make sense to begin with.

Not really, no. With the exception of Ineffa and Zibai I think their respective holders don't really know where the wheels came from. They just kinda appeared one day. Based on Lauma's story the OG Columbina didn't seem to know anything about it either.

So my best guess would be that future Columbina arranged somehow for her personal besties to have them in anticipation of future events. Clearly she was playing favorites there.
