I don't like how they implemented Selenic Chronicles
If removing the Selenic Chronicles for the duration of the AQ was for immersion, then I don't really understand why the quests aren't different come after the AQ. Having Columbina and the traveler treat everyone and each other like strangers feels really weird. Lauma calling Columbina "Kuutar" after it was addressed that doing so made her feel alienated (and she resolved not to do so again )was all the more jarring. I really don't feel as excited or enjoy these quests anymore and I guess I'll have a laugh if I see Sandrine at the end of it I guess

The reverse happens when you do an event and a character shows up that you haven't met in the story yet
But realistically, if a new player gets to Nod Krai, of course they're going to do the damn AQ first before they finish their Selenic Chronicles, in which case the experience would be even worse for them since they'll have to do almost ALL of them after the AQ
Which is similar to what happened to me who joined after the release of Nod Krai and about halfway through, this just wasn't thought out properly imo
I did mine in the "ideal" order but because I took my time I got screwed.
This was just terribly designed by miHoYo in every way.
I accept that as part and parcel of enjoying the game but it feels like the devs have a rather strange perception of investment in real time.
Maybe that is cultural? I'm not sure. Expecting *literal months* of investment from players for things that don't grant commiserate rewards is a little weird to me.
I assume that Hoyo knows which mean more money.
Look this is 2026 you should've realized that money argument doesn't work
It’s an extremely anti-consumer practice that hurts the storytelling, but all Hoyo cares about is you come back
And if they locked the quest behind doing those dates, that would be the real anti-consumer practice
It’s bad narrative practice built to create habit. And it’s terrible for the flow of the story. What if you start playing now? You’ll have finished the archon quest before finishing the first part of the chronicles.
It’s bad game design - it’s a customer habit/retention focused mechanic not a gameplay focused one
Immersion is great, but if it hinders the players enjoyment from the game and prevents then to enjoy it on their own terms then it should be rid of. It should be an option, not a priority. They could always just add a popup "for better immersion we recommend playing chronicles between archon quests. Do you want to proceed?" and that's all you need to cater to both groups
Or unlock them automatically and not only when player ends the previous part
The alternative is malicious compliance: they allow you to do everything at once, but they strip the content out (there's no meat). Case N point: Destiny 2 Episode: Revenant Act 1- 3 having "all story" dumped at once in what seems to be 1 conversation without any in between gameplay parts.
I think it's more accurate to say that what's missing is a casual "bring your teams and slay" mode.
IT does scratch that itch, but I'm talking about Currency Wars type replayability from HSR.
Like OP complaining about how they dont like Selenic actually says:
"I want more of this but I want it right now" and they keep coming back even though they dont like the staggered timegate.
Requires one switch and a text box.

I can't think of a single moment where this sarcastic snear at the community was actually accurate.
As for the plenty of time thing, new players or returning players (me) don't have that option. Which sucks
There wasn't any kind of warning beforehand, and a lot of people forgot to do them since there was nothing telling you that you could do another. No one will miss out on anything, that's true, however you have to understand that being locked for 6 weeks is already insanely annoying, even more if you realize that new players have to wait 18 weeks to get the wings.
I honestly don't know how they could have implemented these better, because again, the idea behind them is great. I'm just going to headcanon that Traveler is viewing memories as opposed to encountering Columbina in the flesh, at least it helps with my own immersion, haha
They literally wanted to shove Columbina down our throats
Majority of Selenic Chronicles was supposed to be done *before* the AQ, they literally put in too many days that it punishes you for not checking in by breaking the immersion if you don’t keep up
They also didn’t implement any in-game visual reminders until people complained and by that point it was too little, too late
Like every other fucking region has done their reputation quests????
I'm envisioning its like a prequel to the book you are reading, or a film you are watching released after the first part: it does not makes sense on the chronological order of release but it gives you a chance to have a glimpse on the past of that particular story or character
Not a hard implementation and the way it is now is just, lazy.
I've never ran into so many bugs in all the past 5 years of playing the game combined (which still isn't many bugs, the game is really polished, but still). There's that one Columbina statue that still freaks out when doing the healing animation back in the 6.0 areas. The areas are tiny and cramped, and we barely get expansions. Most feedback seems to have been ignored or downright regressed (autotrigger quests and quest-locked exploration that was heavily criticized all the way back in Sumeru...). Character kits are really boring and exploration features are nigh-nonexistant. Forgotten fishing. Nothing new for the Traveller to use >!except for a plain stat boost which is appreciated but... doesn't help with the Lunar mechanics!< and terrible 4* that don't help the situation either. I've yet to trigger a Lunar reaction, but honestly I hardly care, they are super uninspired and could have been a footnote on some characters' kits. No reputation system, just a weekly date with Columbina to force logins at specific days...
\*btw, if you did the Quest, you should know that when YOU DID IT is not that important to when IT DID HAPPEN.
There was no wiggle room or grace period. If you didn't play each one weekly or do the AQ immediately to unlock the next batch at the start of each update then you very easily behind. And yeah, it's really jarring and breaks the story immersion if you end up playing them out of order.
These should have been anecdotes and not locked behind the weekly time gating so more players could do all 6 in between AQ updates and not fall behind.
6.0: Act I does nothing. Finishing Act II unlocks the first two batches of chronicles and Hoyo wants you to do it in the first week. If not, you delay the selenic chronicles by however long you delayed Act II.
6.1: Act III does nothing as well. Act IV does not unlock a new batch either so you can do it whenever. However, this is when issues start. You ideally want to finish it before 6.1 ends for the primos.
6.2: If you’re playing on mobile, you have the option to not automatically download quest resources. This lets you delay starting Act V until the end of the patch to catch up on missed selenic chronicles.
If the quest was automatically downloaded though, Act V is automatically accepted and you are locked out as soon as the patch starts. Completing Act VI does not help.
6.3: You need to complete Act VIII both to enable you to continue previously missed chronicles and to unlock the last batch.
——
TL;DR If your quest resources are NOT automatically downloaded, you have up to 6 weeks to do Act II and not miss anything. No other archon quest matters. Otherwise, you need to do Act II within the first week and no other archon quest matters.
Either way you still need to do one weekly to avoid falling behind which I know some struggled with since there was no alert for the reset and it happened on a different day depending on when you finished the last quest.
Sometimes need to use mine for a secondary account, so I obviously don't update it every time.
As such, when I log in, the games asks whether I want to download resources now or later. But if I tell it to do it later, it sends me back to the login screen, which leaves me no choice but to download everything if I want to play.
I don't think I've missed something, and only settings I have about ressources are [these](https://imgur.com/a/4ZuNIZV).
However if you logged in to play on another device and started the quest, you must download the additional resources on your phone as well because you're in it now. This is probably what happened in your case.
For the most recent patch anyway (whichever acts were released), i didnt start it but was locked out. I never log out in nod krai and was not able to visit bina.
While its not a big deal being a few weeks behind, it is incredibly frustating.
Not sure about the prior acts/patches as im usually up to date on them.
If you completed the previous act in a previous patch, the next act is accepted as soon as you log in. You don’t need to be in Nod Krai nor do you need to talk to anyone or do anything for the game to start the quest for you.
There are even bonus extra quests you can do after the first two sets but before the third (the third set is locked behind act 8). They are just rehashes of previous quests though with some variation (you can play moon chess or play songs on the lyre again for example).
but in my selenic chronicles, Aino and Ineffa have never met Columbina yet so its so jarring.
i know Selenic Chronicles is supposed to be the "reputation quest" of Nod Krai (hence why the weekly restrictions) but tying it into a storyline outside of the Archon Quest is so ass for immersion if you didn't follow the "intended" timeline
if they could've literally just had selenic chronicles as its own thing; while having a normal reputation quest in the Frost Moon Scions to justify the lunar wings; it wouldve been fine lMAO
Quests are not necessarily designed for everybody because there are a lot of restrictions. The Selenic Chronicles are clearly catering for players who catch up with the content of Columbina, and I prefer having more content than the devs having to drop it or lower the quality.
Small text under *Chronological Events*
(Or something along those lines"
This makes enough sense doesn't it?
Easy fix. I don’t know why you’re acting like there’s zero solution.
i am like 3 weeks behind on it so it just felt like it is left behind now. So the ones that did it day 1 and weekly on date is up to date?
And then I hear her call her that epeatedly while treating her as a stranger bro I feel you
When I finally completed Act VIII and got the chance to continue the Chronicles, >!I made Bina a coffee, which prompted her to discuss Sandrone. You'd probably expect this reminder to prompt some emotion considering what happens in Act VIII but... nope. Bina just said she disliked the drink, understood why Sandrone always seemed sour after having it, and that was it.!<
I like Selenic Chronicles in terms of just cute little anecdotes, but the whole structure of how they play out relative to the Archon Quests was executed poorly. Hoyo failed hard to account for anyone who isn't on top off everything happening which detracts from the experience. Its honestly kind of bewildering. I can't fathom who thought this worked in this way.
Perhaps its because I have played live service games that have similiar occurances but I had never problem imagining that Im back at the moment it was current even if the main story changed some aspects or updated them.
Its the same for story quests though, some are also outdated by the Archon Quests.
Edit:
Although, its much more immersion breaking in the future for new players or those catching up when you can finish the Archon Quest much faster. That is true. Should be a daily then.
Obviously, I'd prefer it not to be just once a week, or at least that after completing AQ all of them would be available, even if only once a day, so we could catch up, but it's ironic to see a community that prides itself on having 5 years worth of accumulated quests and missed limited events complaining about fixed content that brings lore to a specific character that they will not miss for not playing them.
I know the Selenic Chronicles and archon quest are permanent unlike simulanka but the Chronicles could take 4 months if i'm understanding the time correctly and a player could finish the archon quest way before that whereas players in like 6.0 got to do them in time with quests.
Genshin doing anything for immersion is bs if they don't fill in gaps for people who missed events or just started the game later than someone.
Most of the time you just kind of get over the initial awkwardness and carry on, but it really wouldn't take much effort for Hoyoverse to record a few lines to introduce a new friend. But on the other hand, I've watched almost every past event, the only real pain point is still the Dragonspine/Simulanka stuff, everything else so far has felt pretty self-contained and not too big a deal to have missed.
Ineffa and Aino are still gonna deduce and be shocked that the person in front of her is the moon goddess after you've finished all the AQs.
I finished the second set selenic chronicles back on 6.2 but I'm currently only halfway through 6.1 aq cause I'm taking my time with the world quest and exploration.
But yeah for the people who got locked out of the selenic chronicles back in 6.2 and immediately did the aq in 6.3 and now have access back to them this must be jarring.
waiting a week is simply absurd imo. at the very least they should've warned people on the events page the way they did for durin's sq
Why would we need to re summons luonnotar? Is she going to die in the Archon quest?
Things that happened in the past is fine but getting interactions involving events in the future is weird.
At the very least let all from the first set be doable in one day, just needing to speed up time in the game. That's where Columbina starts to warm up to us after all, would feel like a lot of development is lost if that isn't done at least. And the other 2 sets should be daily refresh if they really wanted to time gate them so much, not weekly. It just doesn't make much sense putting such a long down time in between when they're already released.
And like others have mentioned, adding a black screen with text or even a filter indicating it's a flashback if you've progressed far enough in the story can't be that hard. Simple enough fixes and they had 3 patches to do so, but seems like they want the chronicles to be as inconvenient as possible.
Just treat it like another event I've missed, god knows how many hours I've spent watching old events on YouTube already.
I don't know what kind of story content we'll get
I was doing Durin's quest and at a certain point in it everyone in Mondstadt is pining for Albedo's help, but then you get timegated and so I went to do Witch's Homework instead.
In that you got an Albedo quest where he's just chilling, no work, nothing happening, Lumine and Paimon just go hang with him, draw some cats, have a nice time, no stress just Albedo on vacation.
The next day it's all stress again gotta go seek out Albedo because we really need him for Durin's quest!
It feels like watching Serenity after Firefly and suddenly all the characters are holding each other at arm's length again.
