I may be too incompetent for this game.
I joined the fun back in 2021 and honestly had a blast with the game. I simply couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to get back in the game after workdays. At some point I slowed down after Inazuma, took a break, and jumped back into it when Dendro finally became a thing. During the Chasm stuff, I just stopped playing altogether and never touched the game for 3 years or something.
I just started back in the game yesterday, got to the part of the Chasm where you have to fight Agnarr and Egill, and remembered why I took a step back from it:
**The game just got too goddamned difficult.**
Tried all of my strongest character combinations and simply could not defeat either of them. Elemental bursts were almost always interrupted or my energy depleted somehow. Both of them, at about 15% health, never lost anymore health; it just stops. Stamina depletion is, what stamina? And I can only heal so much before characters get full and there's a nice 5 minute cool down on revives. I just can't do it and don't think I have the mental fortitude to push through it. I'm a fairly casual gamer and don't play games for the challenge. I've enough stressors as it is and don't really need cherries on top. I don't have tons of money to pour into getting 5 star characters and weapons, and min/maxing artifacts to me is brain melting activity.
Anyway, that's my rant. Most likely won't progress further, so I'll just have fun doing other things like Serenitea Pot and Miliastra Wonderland stuff. :)

You could just walk away and do anything else
You probably just rushed there with underdeveloped characters, its okay to say I can't do this now and move on. You dont have to banish yourself to the shadowlands (team pot and wonderland).
The problem with that is, you can only get better equipment by doing the dungeons/bosses, and you have to be a certain level for certain equipment/drops. This turns into a frustrating grind for gear.
I'm simply a casual gamer not trying to stress. As the title states, I don't think I'm competent enough for pushing all the buttons and doing all the maneuvers to wiggle my way to underprepared victories.
This means, all the other things left for me to do, **that I care for**, are Serenitea Pot and Miliastra Wonderland.
I don't care about the other stuff.
Quite literally, I do what I want.
Bennett, Ganyu and Razor are 90 with Bennett being maybe closest to decent in terms of weapon, artifacts and constellation. The others, I did the best I could with what I had.
Maybe I'll try reducing the world rank. It just irks me that because of that, drops won't be worth much.
You don't need 5 star characters and weapons and to min max artifacts to beat these guys, you just need to understand their mechanics and how to counter them. It sounds like you're trying to brute force them instead which...yeah, that can be hard and frustrating.
Since you mention using food....are you using food dishes to increase your damage and defense attributes? There's also dishes for lowering the amount of stamina you use when sprinting. These could help as well. Just don't try to stack different dishes of the same type (can't use two ATK dishes at the same time, for instance).

Shielded Abyss Heralds are immune to all damage but will die immediately when their shield gets taken down. The shields are only vulnerable to elements that can create elemental reactions. Some elements get the job done faster than others - for instance, Electro Lector's shield is most vulnerable to Cryo, Pyro, and Dendro. Other elements (except Electro, which it's immune to) will work, but will take much longer.
Also, be sure to keep moving. If you stand in place, you'll get killed much more quickly. Also, be sure to dash just before an attack is about to hit. You become briefly immune to damage whenever you dash.
If you just needed to vent, that’s totally fine.
If you want us to help you figure out how to strengthen your characters and teams, I’m sure many others, myself included would be happy to brainstorm with you here!
People like to coddle and offer roundabout advice after reading something like this. I'm going to be honest like most people won't on here. You just have to play more and make more effort to understand combat if it's that important to you. No causal player is going to have the same ease as someone who plays regularly without a good deal of skill.
There are hard video games, Genshin isn't one of them if you play regularly.
I think it was somehow missed or maybe I wasn't clear that I prefaced this all by admitting to my own incompetence, because I'm getting a lot of "the game isn't hard" kind of comments.
Hence, my lack of competence.
looking at your comments, I think you either didn't pay attention or forgot some UI details , like elemental shields have always been in the game, used by abyss mages, there's a little meter below their HP bar that shows the durability of their elemental shield, and you break these shields using opposing elements that react to them. for Abyss Heralds/Lectors, those kick in once you are on the last bit of their HP and die immediately after you destroy their shield.
The Herold and Lector enemies Don't want a standard reaction team, like "Vape Ganyu" or anything like that, they want opposing elemental application.
for electro and hydro abyss mages, having cryo, dendro and pyro characters present would be the most effective way to deal with them because those elemetns react to both electro and hydro.
Razor is going to be a character you absolutely want to swap out of the team to deal with them, you can keep Kokomi because her healing is good and if you get a dendro character in there you would find that you will defeat them both fast. Even if the character is lvl 1, a Dendro applicator will be effective for what is needed.
there is also the fact that these lectors/ herolds will have a attack pattern that you can avoid, with the hydro one you can lock that one down when he activates his shield and have ganyu freeze him with her burst, The electro one is more tricky but you must avoid his electro attacks as they will drain energy.
beating these enemies doesn't require money, or super strong characters or min-maxing, it requires a little bit of stratagy and basic game knowledge
Honestly just enjoy the story and archon quests and keep saving for primos and then use them on newer characters once you have enough, it takes time but if you just came after dendro/sumeru, you will get A LOT primos from completing sumeru, Fontaine, natlan and nodkrai, so maybe by the time snezhnaya comes around you could for a bunch of snezhnaya characters.
You dont need meta characters to beat regular mobs in the overworld. You may need them for the trounce domains but you can coop them, I do and its ok
It seems like probably from being away from the game from so long (and I dont even know if the game properly explains it) yeah when the lectors/heralds drop to low health they put up an elemental shield, in this state they dont take any dmg but when you get rid of their shield they die immediately, the shields dont care for how much dmg you deal but just for applying elements to it. Hydro breaks the pyro shield easily while cryo and dendro break the electro one. Make sure you have characters who can apply a lot of those elements on your team and youll kill them in seconds.
Also if i remember correctly this is the Chasm world quest right? So like you don't even have to do this. It's not a mandatory quest so you can just continue with your main story and leave this until later.
Some of my characters are max level with some or all maxed level artifacts/weapons.
It is, in fact, a skill issue.
Lectors stop dying at low health and then you need to break their shields. Once the shield is broken they die immediately.
You need to hit one of these with Cryo and the other with Hydro or they’ll never die. It’s also a number of hits thing, not a size of hits thing.

I also took a break for two years and the characters I had couldn’t clear the endgame content at the time but once I started playing again I eventually had the right characters to clear all of the end game content. You’ll eventually be able to beat everything again if you’re willing to invest the time and it’s still fun for you.
