about Genshin 2

most of us have already heard that Genshin 2 happening after the Snezhnaya arc, so what will happen to our old characters? do they just become obsolete? and will the old game no longer receive any updates after 2 releases? Genshin is the only game i play from hoyo so i have no idea how this works.

If you're talking about that one leak, they later clarified that "genshin 2" is the term they're using for the next storyline after Snezhnaya. Not a different game entirely.

Prob not a great question for this sub tbh

dorkelmekis2026-01-27 09:20

i know what it's about i just dont know how it's supposed to work

TechnicallyHankHill2026-01-27 09:21

No one does. It's far, *far* too early to even be talking about this. We can't even be sure that leak is legit.

dorkelmekis2026-01-27 09:23

sure, but doesn't mean we can't speculate

issm2026-01-27 09:39

The leak as clarified is about as legit as saying the next patch is going to be 6.4/Luna whatever.

Has Mihoyo confirmed it for sure? No. But it's blatantly obvious that the gacha dev isn't going to kill off a profitable game just because they finished one story arc.

TechnicallyHankHill2026-01-27 09:40

They explicitly said they're planning on keeping this game running for at least ten, or when up to twenty more years. No doubt in my mind that we're going to be getting a few new storylines later on after the teyvat chapter concludes.

issm2026-01-27 10:58

I mean, I don't exactly trust what they've said either. If Genshin starts hemorrhaging money 15 years in, they're going to kill the game, 20 year promise or not.

That said, I see no reason why Genshin is going to stop being profitable within the next couple years.

Upstairs-Witness-6172026-01-27 09:31

Its a story phase. Basically after senzhnaya we may get to experience teyvat in our twins eye as part 2.

Upstairs-Witness-6172026-01-27 09:33

As for our characters there won't be changes but the new characters might predate or post date them lorewise.

dorkelmekis2026-01-27 09:56

that'd be pretty interesting and thank u for giving a normal reply. i didnt think this post would offend some people lol

Upstairs-Witness-6172026-01-27 10:31

I dunno what is considered offensive these days.
I play a game because of it's story experience and genshin is in a rather undesirable curve which contradicted their ambition during prologue. So if They move to part 2 or not part 1 would be the focal point where they the devs at hoyo gets judged.

Yes you wasted 6 years playing genshin 1, in genshin 2 everything is new xP /s

Bierzgal2026-01-27 09:24

And that's why stuff like this is under a lid, because when it spills muppets like you can't take scraps of unconfirmed information with a cool head. Your first reactions is to panic.

DaSpood2026-01-27 09:27

"Most of us" heard nothing at all and the few that have should also have heard the clarification that came afterwards so that they don't end up posting such a stupid question on the main sub. There is no "genshin 2", there is just more genshin.

Cross_Shade2026-01-27 09:34

Your "Genshin 2" is simply going to be Genshin. That's what happened when GGZ and HI3 finished their stories. It's the same game, a new story, and maybe a new mechanic to shill, so not all that different from regular region releases.

The Archon quest is done, theres no archon left so w need a new , just part2

quest

Zorandercho2026-01-27 11:28

You don't need to worry. Hoyo will not let their cash cow die so we will surely get many years worth of content. There is not gonna be a Genshin 2, no same publisher will make an entirely new game and kill its old one. Never ever ever ever gonna happen. The story simply will go to Chapter 2 in the current game.

rekage992026-01-27 12:05

There is no genshin 2.

This game has chapters, we’ve know that from the beginning. We may get a new chapter down the line, but it’s not a new game.

So our characters and account are not going anywhere.

most of you need to stay away from this sub

I hope Part II introduces a Time Skip, like 10 years have passed after Snezhnaya, the Siblings enjoyed their "new home" together, saw their friends grow up and live their lives together with them, until some form of new sudden threat arises after the Abyss, after we beign done with it once and for all and having had 10 years of peace.. to play Part two then with characters, like a grown up Klee, where 5S are now the new 4S and from then on we see 6S Characters and old Characters that were once 4S, upgraded to 5S Niveau.

Where all of the Combat System gets then completely updated and overworked to implement features from their other games, mainly ZZZ, to improve the whole combat of genshin with the help of Intro and Outro Combo Skills, Dodge Skills, Counter Attacks, Parries, a completely reworked and rebalanced Reaction System that adds physical Reactions finally based on causing Fatigue as Trigger Condition, just loke how Bloom works, but for physical Attacks. Where Geo can have finally like PHEC own real reactions that have been overdue since day 1

Doing a Part II as complete new game has alot of advantages for MHY and the players, because it allows them to make the game for a while ALOT smaller again, while we just can still continue the Story fromv a latest point of view, without needign to keep all the time the old stuff in our Game File, which we can't replay anyways

We will see how MHY will handle that situation, its still over a year in the future, first we have to get doen with Snezhnaya, then we can see further.

All we can say know about Part II is, that its safe to say, its Story will be focused then fully on Khaen'Riah, Celestia and whatever else might come past that point - the Gods
