People thought she was maniac or weird person who sing at somebody's funeral.
turns out It was her expression to mourn signora.

I always thought Columbina kneeling by the coffin and singing was her mourning. She seemed to be the harbinger who expressed the most sorrow over her death. Arlecchino snapped at Pantalone and Monopoly man coz she was pissed at them not really caring at all. Sandrone left a note about it in her notebook which in on itself is very significant
Everything else about Columbina I did not expect, but she ended up being a pleasant surprise
sledge1152026-01-27 10:34
Sandrone saying "utterly risible" also now comes off as her backing up Arlecchino instead of mocking everyone in that argument
vonsett2026-01-27 11:11
Same, and her smile just seemed like she was thinking back on fond memories
petyrlabenov2026-01-27 12:25
everyone just misunderstood her cultural ritual
I guess we all became Sandrone ehe

That's why I'm not going to judge Heavenly Principles till we get their point of view. Like the only really think that can be judged by what we saw in game is really Abyss. Like I really do not remember ever reading, or seeing anything good about Abyss. Everything else was kind of explained like Fatui's goals, and so on, but Abyss? Still bad guy for almost 6 years now. Probably the main reason why I'm like: I'll wait for HP to explain this.
pyrakanthaa2026-01-27 13:00
Ok but Columbina being a bit weird at a funeral isn't the same as a colonizer coming and destroying the lives of those who disagree with them. These aren't similar cases.
MaitieS2026-01-27 13:07
To be fair I was thinking more about Ajax, and how he wanted to drop a nuke at Liyue, but I do understand where the confusion is coming from as this is Bina's thread, and not Tortilas's.
HorribleDat2026-01-27 18:27
Childe didn't 'want' to use Osial, he was willing to do so for Tsaritsa.
He's probably given order to use it if he fail to get gnosis with Signora knowing full well he would fail to get the gnosis.
It's rather ironic that Osial moment is taken as Childe being some kind of mass murder instead of loyal soldier, when outside of the AQ every single time we meet him on other mission/not on a mission we get to see his personality is consistently a man who just love throwing hands with worthy opponents...just like how he was talking during the fight right before Osial part.
FunBuilding27072026-01-27 21:24
>It's rather ironic that Osial moment is taken as Childe being some kind of mass murder instead of loyal soldier
Yes, [just following orders](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superior_orders) totally absolve Childe. Oh wait...
Volarevia292026-01-27 17:45
Yeah I hate when people say Arle went soft when literally the first line we get from the woman is just her being a decent person
VorticalHeart442026-01-27 10:07
Is it really that inappropriate for a singer to sing at a funeral?
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-27 10:09
Yes , by Genshin players mind , it seems
FlyingFreest2026-01-27 10:17
Depends what you singing I suppose.
"This is so sad, Columbina sing Despacito."
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-27 10:22
I suppose that here they thought she was singing a demonic chant and not a lullaby
pokebuzz1232026-01-27 13:52
People didn't think it was a demonic chant, just that the lullaby was eerie and what we know about her and the Fatui at that time.
* People don't normally sing a lullaby at a funeral, especially for a grown adult.
* We had little information about the Fatui, specifically Columbina. The information we had for her was from Childe who stated that something was off about her, and wondering why she was ranked no. 3 (he states strength is how they are ranked).
* At the time, the Fatui was seen in a negative light, often depicted morally evil due to what we have learned (Signora and Scara's involvement in Inazuma certainly did not help). Literally everyone at the table besides Childe (because we've met him and he's playable) had sus things going on in the community with theories pointing out what their deal was for being in the Fatui (besides being hot and baddies).
It really isn't a surprise why people thought this way when the information we had had no context about her besides being mysterious, and the Fatui have done terrible shit everywhere.
SomeDudeAtAKeyboard2026-01-27 13:54
… people don’t sing at funerals ?
Every funeral I’ve attended has had at least someone sing a mourning song for the deceased.
I’m genuinely asking cause I’ve only been to funerals for family members and I just assumed this was something everyone did
Talia_Black_Writes2026-01-27 13:57
People don't normally sing lullabies at funerals. While smiling and resting their head on the coffin.
RaiStarBits2026-01-27 15:56
Yeah that absolutely is eerie.
pokebuzz1232026-01-27 13:59
Specifically a **lullaby,** not just singing. I have been to a funeral with songs and a whole mariachi band, and I've seen funerals with them playing pop songs, but they did not have lullabies (as what others have said what Columbina was doing).
Furicel2026-01-27 14:35
I haven't been to a funeral with singing even once in my life, and I have a lot of dead acquaintances, as I live in a pretty violent country
Salter_KingofBorgors2026-01-27 14:51
People dont randomly sing at funerals. Usually its planned
Emperor-Nerd2026-01-27 14:55
To be fair we literally have no idea if it was planned or not but even if it wasn't knowing columbinas personality in game she probably sang in hopes it would lighten the mood
whatisevengoingonnn2026-01-27 15:54
people absolutely do sing at funerals and yes even lullabies. [This](https://youtu.be/a1Uv7TnpU48?si=USmX8NzQkH-NwYTI) is a lullaby i've heard at funerals sang before (obviously in more romantic renditions with a piano accompaniment)
Holy-Wan_Kenobi2026-01-27 16:37
Childe really getting a pass for trying to drown a city, damn
pokebuzz1232026-01-27 16:38
I was thinking about that when I was rereading my comment, but the community in general gave him a pass even after bringing it up so it is what it is
Bluecoregamming2026-01-27 16:48
Yeah because Zhongli gave him that pass first as it was all part of the master plan to make Liyue self-reliant. And Childe's reward for acting his role in the play was the Gnosis
TeririHerscherOfCute2026-01-27 17:01
Well Zhongli also could have given him a pass because he signed an NDA and he’s the god of contracts
MartenBroadcloak192026-01-27 17:10
At the time, Childe didn't know about the deal and that Zhongli was still alive and going to bail out the city. Childe thought he really was going to kill thousands of people if he was wrong, and was okay with that.
AilisEcho2026-01-27 17:21
No, Childe was trying to avoid going with the plan and to get to the gnosis directly. He didn't murder the guards either. Only when Childe got to the body and realized who Zonglie was and his whole plan, he decided "fuck it, if that's what you want, then the consequences are on you". English translation really made him sound like some sort of maniac
Nagaiyumi2026-01-27 22:03
Exactly. At the end of the day, he is trying to not cause problems, but a job is a job and he has to get it done when it comes down to it.

ComfortableTraffic122026-01-27 10:23
I mean she was smiling while resting on the coffin. That's bound to raise some eyebrows.
Kant82026-01-27 10:28
Did anyone even told her that she's not supposed to smile?
ComfortableTraffic122026-01-27 10:32
She's been alive for 500 years..She herself feels grief and sadness about the moons, it's very possible she attended funerals w the frostmoon scions as their goddess..why would she not know not to smile???
Edit: This isn't even the first harbinger funeral. Crucabena must have had one too.
Longjumping_Plum_1332026-01-27 10:59
She covered her eyes because she thinks what she sees is just bullshit of people and the world, how would she know the expression she’s making isn’t ok? Like she failed to see how Rosalyn, Arlechino & Sandrone were trying to be her friend.
aurawitch2026-01-27 12:34
Who makes up the rule that it's not ok for her to smile? You can celebrate someone's life or show love any way that you want. You could clearly tell she was mourning. Now we're telling other people how they're supposed to live through grief.
JokeOk42402026-01-27 10:33
I mean the only others who were smiling were dottore and pantalone
LackingSimplicity2026-01-27 11:10
Some cultures see funerals as a time to celebrate the life of the deceased, not just a congregation of tears.
Zombie-Pinya2026-01-27 11:39
You can't force people how to grieve. Not all grieving looks the same.
Evil_Eyed2026-01-27 12:20
During a loved one's funeral, I smiled and laughed when we shared the fond and happy memories we had.
Maybe it is the similar case for Columbina?
Brown_Truffle8902026-01-27 11:18
Yea considering she cried and shed tears for sandrone
slayer589x2026-01-27 15:33
I don't think we've ever seen colombina cry or get angry or laugh out loud before.
Girl doesn't show much emotions even after her development .
countrpt2026-01-28 00:40
Yes, I'd say this the point of showing her reaction to Sandrone. Until the character development in the story, she had disassociated from the world she didn't consider home, and she didn't recognize the relationships she had for what they were. She didn't understand that she and Sandrone were actually friends, or what that meant. But now that she does see Nod Krai as home and Sandrone as part of the "family" she wants to protect, she can grieve properly because she feels loss.
So you go back to the screenshot in this thread, this is before her character development. At this time, she doesn't recognize the relationship with Rosalyne for what it was; she feels something but it hasn't quite hit home. It's not so long after this that she decides to leave the Fatui entirely. So if her reaction feels off-kilter, maybe even creepy, it likely reflects her state of mind at the time. It's not the Columbina we know today who has processed her feelings and feels grounded in the present, but the one of the past whose predominant feeling was "I don't belong here; this isn't my true home/family." Much closer to the one we first met singing to herself in her cave, waiting to either leave or disappear.
RCTD-2612026-01-27 14:44
i'm pretty sure the coffin is empty (there is no single trace of her after Shogun attacked her), maybe it filled with Signora's personal belongings. the funeral is basically just for formality
Zombie-Pinya2026-01-27 11:37
When my ex-gf's dad died, all his musician friends had a turn at playing songs. When my classmate's brother died, somebody sang his favorite songs. Most other funerals and wakes I've been to, they at least play the deceased's favorite songs. Some even hire people to sing at funerals.
I thought that was just a common thing to have music and singing at funerals. In fact I think I would even find it more weird and soulless if there was no music at all at a funeral.

VorticalHeart442026-01-27 12:49
Can they not imagine a different culture where singing is at least tolerated as a form of mourning?

As colombina once sang “I’m the kind of girl who sings at a funeral, can’t understand what I mean, you soon will.”…..
“Mika from monsdtadt shot timmies pidgeons, you get a leg of fowl and your honey roasts tickin”
nerd_reader_51592026-01-27 10:41
I did. Now what
kifune892026-01-27 11:05
This is why I think she is rewrite character, wanderer and Childe claimed that she supposed to be much scary or warned us to not even step close to her.
Ok-Contact61262026-01-27 11:11
Because they didn't know her, she wasn't particularly strong, she always closed her eyes. always looks like she isn't part of the world. Get third place in the fatui rank. Anybody would Think that she is dangerous lol.
Do you know how much time it takes to rewrite a whole ass character ? Nothing in the story told us she was that eldritch killing angel the fandom decided as their head canon.
ValtenBG2026-01-27 11:14
Tbf, the writers had enough time to rewrite her character
Ok-Contact61262026-01-27 11:16
Okay, let's say they did who was supposed to be the new moon goddess then?
ValtenBG2026-01-27 11:21
Or probably the plot hadn't been set in stone back then?
Ok-Contact61262026-01-27 11:22
Bro we all new since the start of genshin that we will get a new moon goddess.
kokko6932026-01-27 11:12
That's not what they said
Childe said that there was something off about her
= As we know, Bina is not a fighter. She was just a power battery for the fatui and never went out of HQ. Childe fighting instinct and duel mania didnt kick in for Bina like he does with Arle because Bina isn't a fighter. Childe just doesn't understand how such high ranked fatui doesn't seems "strong" to him.
Wanderer said that he would fight her but that we shouldn't do it
= That means Wanderer has low morality and would just fight anyone, but we the "hero" as high morality and we couldn't fight someone as innocent as Columbina
The context helps.
LackingSimplicity2026-01-27 11:15
Nothing about their voicelines is different from how Columbina is in-game.
Childe feared the unknown of how this girl was rank 3. He didn't want to fight because he had no clue what that even means when Bina is the opponent.
In NK Act 1 we literally encountered a Damsel who was innocent and oblivious and Wanderer warned that we wouldn't have the heart to fight her regardless of that.
UltraPhoenix952026-01-27 11:15
No? Childe says he doesn't understand why she's third because she doesn't seems strong, and Wanderer calls her oblivious, innocent, unconcerned, unfeeling, and says that he could challenge her to a fight but we couldn't due to our conscience
kifune892026-01-27 11:06
Even Arlechino is also rewritten character, she do some so worst in inazuma quest (that you need to do for 3 days)
KazakiriKaoru2026-01-27 11:19

erosugiru2026-01-27 11:25
In the same breath, Thoma was also rewritten but nobody gave a rat's ass about that
Hunter_Crona2026-01-27 11:25

Affectionate-Pen-1452026-01-27 11:19

BeautyJester2026-01-27 11:21
You be lying if it didnt strike you as off first impression…
BigBoss828912026-01-27 12:02
And if OP's post is insinuating that we "hated" her just because she's fatui so in turn, we just "hate" dottore in the same reason then he's delusional. The fatui's track record of being "good" as a whole org is shoddy at best, we met the harbingers individually and determined if they deserve the hate or not. Columbina didn't consistently show us that she's a psychopath and her experiment's right to live is wholly optional and in fact, required to be disregarded for the sake of "research". Yep, we *definitely* "misunderstood" dottore. He's so much worse.
RaiStarBits2026-01-27 15:44
Like bro, she’s leaning on a coffin during a funeral and is singing, that and the descriptions we had scream “this girl is eerie or possibly not human”
erosugiru2026-01-27 11:26
Singing at funerals isn't that weird honestly but they wanted to frame her in an off-putting way at least.
al_jose3712026-01-27 11:34
Right before this lazzo trailer, we had the reveal that the top 3 Harbingers have powers equal to gods. And we figured out Columbina is #3. And she was the most mysterious of them all. And she looked like a biblically accurate Angel.
Like, there is NOTHING that made her not scary. We fear the unknown and she was the unknownest
The_Lone_Wanderer_042026-01-27 11:42
No? We got the statement the top 3 are god level in 3.2 via Nahida, Winter nights lazzo was a teaser for Sumeru.
al_jose3712026-01-27 12:27
Oh yeah. It was all pretty close to each other I misremembered lol. But yeah you are right
NickSaysH12026-01-27 12:53
Tbf the point still stands, she came off as mysterious and the later comment about her power only served to further speculation on her seemingly cryptic nature
holiscrayolis2026-01-27 12:44
Columbia never looked like a biblically accurate angel, she has wings on the back of her head that's it, people wanted her to look like. A biblically accurate angel, which is a completely different statement
al_jose3712026-01-27 17:44
I meant it as a joke, but... Her design is inspired from some of those biblical angels. 3 sets of wings with 1 pair covering the eyes and 1 covering the legs is a classic biblical angel (forgot its name... Seraphim I think??) and while she may not have it perfectly, she does have 4 pairs of "wings" on her head and all. And she has her eyes covered too. The Angel motif is very prominent.
Now, I absolutely love the subversion of expectations by Hoyo. We were pretty worried about the top 3 Harbingers with godlike powers. By having 2/3 of them on our side with a very complex backstory makes it very interesting to me. Like, it would have been pretty monotonous if all 3 of them were just Evil, overpowered puppets of Tsaritsa that we fight and defeat Because we got some stupid power-up. But the Captain had his personal motives and reasons. He never once lost his perceived power level of being God-like and left a lasting impact in the story. The doctor stayed truly evil and truly powerful. We barely defeated him with the help of the other harbinger who was God-like and 4 more (technically) Harbingers. Like, Hoyo kept the God-like Aura, still gave us very different characters... One being an ally that needed our help, one a truly evil villain and one in a middle ground who had his own reasons.
Anyway, Idk why I yapped so much. I just wanted to mention how they handled the "God-like powers" detail in a cohesive way. They stayed with the same Aura and I LOVE IT. Columbina was the biggest subversion since she started off with a small Aura but the payoff at the end was fantastic. Also, I really thought When Nahida said 3 God-like Harbingers, that they will really be the final threat. But no, we still have Pantalone and Pulcinella to face. Like, the Rankings are more than it seems.
erosugiru2026-01-27 12:53
She does not look like a biblically accurate angel, she just had a seraph-themed head piece and people took that concept and ran with it
PvZGaming12026-01-27 16:39
She also has a mask that looks like the angel courts (seelie courts)
BalefulShrike2026-01-27 14:20
Not all gods are equal, maybe they were measured in pre-prophecy Furinas.
Ravemst2026-01-27 11:41
Singing at someone’s funeral is a normal thing and I don’t know why people thought it was creepy/weird. Those people need to get off the internet and experience reality more and they will see something like singing as a sign of mourning is a common thing.
strawberry_ooyoo2026-01-27 12:08
Because she was smiling while she was singing and that's not common for a funeral of a friend
holiscrayolis2026-01-27 12:46
It is in some cultures, like sure people are normally sad for obvious reasons but a couple of countries see dead as a moment to celebrate life rather than mourn death, I have seen people smiling while singing on funerals in my country.
strawberry_ooyoo2026-01-27 12:55
When Sandrone sacrificed herself for Traveler and died, Columbina wasn't smiling, she looked sad and concerned
holiscrayolis2026-01-27 13:00
If my grandfather dies Infront of me I'm not gonna laugh my ass off, there's a massive difference between celebrating life in a funeral and being happy while someone is dying
strawberry_ooyoo2026-01-27 13:39
In the Winter Night's Lazzo Columbina doesn't seem like she is celebrating Signora's life at all. She just seems indifferent and detached as she sings slightly smiling on the coffin of someone who is supposed to be one of her close friends
holiscrayolis2026-01-27 13:49
Jesus Christ man, people mourn in different ways, my entire point wasn't even about her specifically but about singing and smiling not being as uncommon as you think.
Columbia was supposed to be evil and they fucked her in a rewrite, there, is that what you want to hear? Gachas players and being illiterate name a more iconic duo.
strawberry_ooyoo2026-01-27 14:01
There was no need to be needlessly aggressive and call me illerate simply for expressing a different opinion from yours.
No, I don't think Columbina was evil and I do actually like her friendship with the other Harbingers, her character was left mysterious in WNL for a purpose until Hoyo decided what to do with her in the story later on.
Animelover56742026-01-27 14:16
That's actually true. In Nigeria, there's the mourning period before the funeral day itself and on the funeral, people dance, serve food and sing.
Saphir_562026-01-27 12:59
I guess the background music and the general mood of the trailer made it seem creepy for some people.
Goomarus2026-01-27 11:45

Fanon Columbina is cool and all but I really love how Canon Columbina turned out
Of course she'd be sorta like that if you were only valued for your powers and not who you are as a person
KaedeP_222026-01-27 12:10
She basically sung a dirge for Rosalyn. It's not weird.
Though by her own admission her mind is a bit up there prior to her resurrection (what weak connection to your moon does to a moon goddess).
MaeveOathrender2026-01-27 12:10
can we drop this annoying agendaposting? people complaining about how people are complaining about Columbina's characterisation are just adding more fuel to a dumpster fire that doesn't even need to be burning in the first place.
Hotspur0002026-01-27 12:11
Yeah, this is exactly my reaction. I thought she was nuts.
Lianidis2026-01-27 12:18
I remember there was a fanmade video of Columbina depicting her as some kind of eldritch horror. I know it was fanmade and not Canon but that impression of her really stuck with me lol.
Zeenrz2026-01-27 12:28
Oh what could have been....... Instead, we got harem member 52.

Hot-Will30832026-01-27 12:35
Fanon Columbina did irreparable damage to her image tbh. Like this is one of the few characters we guessed completely wrong lol
Damian16742026-01-27 12:45
Yeah, *that* version of Columbina was better
Bussy_Wrecker2026-01-27 13:11
Wish she was the Nihilistic angel that we thought she was
wo0l0o2026-01-27 13:25
I think most people were expecting her to be at least a LITTLE intimidating due to the Tartaglia/Wanderer voicelines. I don’t mind her being pure good but I wish we at least knew why they were so afraid of her (unless it’s just because she’s above them in the harbinger rankings, I can accept that too)
Ke5_Jun2026-01-27 13:27
Tbh though, the atmosphere of the trailer and the actual notes she was singing were verry dissonant. The fatui theme music (which Columbina was singing) has a very eerie tone to it in general.
While it is not wrong at all to sing at a funeral in some cultures, the connotation that was made in the trailer made it seem creepy. I also initially thought she’d be a creepy or at least unsettling character, based off of what we knew of the Harbingers at the time (which was basically nothing; Dottore from the manga, Signora, Childe, and Scaramouche were the only ones we knew about, and Childe was the only actually friendly one).
It’s very easy to say “harbingers are not like that!” in restrospect, but you gotta understand what exactly we were working with **at the time**. Winter Night’s Lazzo was released at the end of 2.X. We just got done with Inazuma. We fought Signora who was arrogant and rude, and Scaramouche was taunting us the whole way.
Nowadays ofc we know that Hoyo always do a bait and switch with trailers and they are always misleading to create suspense. But Winter Night’s Lazzo was very early in terms of cinematic teaser trailers. Genshin didn’t really do stuff like that other than regular version trailers. Heck, Sumeru’s “here are all the characters” sneak peek trailer wasn’t even an actual trailer but more of just a montage of in game footage. We didn’t get those until Fontaine.
So did I expect her to be like this at the start? No. But is that a bad thing? Also no. Do I like how Columbina ended up? Definitely; I think she is well written and her personality plays well off of other characters.
Euthya2026-01-27 13:32
Whenever someone brings up the expectations we had for Columbina before we knew much, I always see people use the power of hindsight to make fun of the people who have believed in the previous interpretation.
And I just think it's quite unfair.
It's easy to connect the dots and justify everything now, and nobody can really contradict you because that's just the current canon.
But let's not pretend Genshin didn't WANT us to think of her as eerie.
A lot of you will say how people are stupid for thinking that her singing at a funeral is weird. But consider the framing and the environment. I sure as hell didn't see anyone say that it's just a grieving serenade *before* we learnt that she's actually a sweet girl. Because creepy singing from the third strongest of the villain organization doesn't SEEM innocent. People, justifiably, thought it was unsettling.
Just like the voicelines, people can come in after the fact and tell us how none of it meant anything nefarious and how it still fits her and how we just had unreliable narrators. Not false, per se, but why do we blame people for "mis"interpreting it? People were completely justified in believing Columbina to be something else, because that's the image the game was pushing.
Another thing I see is how people get riled up by the mere idea that a character might've been rewritten. Once again, it becomes an unfair argument, because John Hoyo himself won't come down from heavens to set things straight. Most of us was not there in the writing room, so every speculation of what the progress of the character's writing was is equally valid. You don't know, I don't know, nobody does.
And I really don't get why the notion that a rewrite might've happened is this big attack that fans have to protect the character from. It's just observation.
There are a few, fairly good reasons why Columbina's rewrite might've happened.
The contrast between her vibes from before and after Nod-Krai started being promoted is stark. There was not a lot of easing into this new image they were painting, almost like the first, scarier vibes were unintentional. It's no wonder a lot of people still thought she was gonna betray us or something, because for years Genshin only gave us crumbs which showed Columbina as distant and dangerous. She didn't even have any artifact set lore or something to show us there might be some depth here. Even the Doctor has that.
But in game, it's clear we are immediately supposed to care and like her. Her demeanor, her appearance, Traveler's gentle approach. The writers didn't want us to feel wary of her anymore.
I am personally of the camp that there might've been a rewrite.
But it is not her attitude why I think that, but her design. There is a short from Wolfisor on youtube, analyzing her appearance. That video puts this more eloquently than I could, so I recommend anyone who's actually interested in this topic watches it.
But besides those, the whole Moon Goddess design of hers is off, in a way. First, I think Columbina doesn't really match the other three. I don't think I could tell she's supposed to be one of them, if not for the moon theming of her clothes. And yes, I get why she's different and doesn't have to be like the sisters, but they don't even look related in my opinion.
One interesting thing I noticed is that the three goddesses have multiple times been depicted with little horns, rather than bird like wings, even as recently as one of the Nod-Krai trailers. But obviously the six wings were one of the few things we had for sure in Columbina's design, so they just took away the horns and gave them feathers in the hair instead, so they'd have SOME resemblance.
Not to mention the hair, which, while I understand is kind of like pink kuuvakhi, they're completely different shades. But Columbina was already hot pink, so they had to roll with that.
I personally didn't have many expectations for Columbina before the fact. My only theory was that she might be one of the angels, considering the fact that six wings are sure to remind a lot of people of seraphims. It's a pretty common symbol of those. In general, even now, she has a lot of angel symbolism. Which is a bit strange when we know angels ARE a thing here and are completely different, even made by opposing ruler deities. It doesn't make much sense to me why Columbina is so "angelic", aside from the fact that they locked themselves into the theme with the wings long ago.
Honestly, I'm not even sure if *rewrite* is the word I agree with, per se. I just think Lazzo Columbina wasn't a character at all. She was a pretty blank slate. And when they wanted to use her, that's when they actually started to write, with only a few, set in stone details to watch out for.
That's why people can connect the dots easily, after the fact (like why the singing was just grief), but none of that comes naturally from what we saw and knew (like how the singing was creepy regardless).
But, of course, I wasn't there in the writing room. But neither were you. So let's just discuss this and share our opinions in a civil way.
Nobody was dumb, just because they had certain expectations.
Animelover56742026-01-27 14:14
I mostly kept far away from the whole angel motif and eeroe vibe because I see people majorly use Childe and Scara's voicelines. One trusts the Rooster of all people with his family, the other despises others and hasn't shown much or any genuine respect for the other Harbingers.
Euthya2026-01-27 14:30
Yeah, I completely get that they're not very reliable. I do think that using them as evidence for a rewrite is much less credible than the other things I brought up.
But even so, I still cannot blame people for building expectations based on those voicelines as well. After all, that's literally all we had.
And speaking of which, Childe's voiceline still comes off a bit weird, considering that they were on tea parties together. A personal nit-pick of mine is that Columbina's identity as the Moon Goddess isn't common knowledge. Nod-Krai is right around the border with a bunch of statues depicting her. Over the course of 500 years, did nobody realize and spread at least a rumor that the idle Harbinger is the same as the local Goddess next door?
I don't understand how he has no clue about what she is.
MikezooMat2026-01-27 14:34
I mean, eerie columbina truthers trusting the word of chronically-out-of-the-loop childe and the first ever case of male hysteria taking everything personally scaramouche was just setting themselves up for disappointment. Especially since both of their dialogues about columbina fit with what they know of her and how they react to people: childe saw 3rd harbinger and got excited to spar but then felt weirded out about fighting a damsel who's kind of up there in the clouds mentally; meanwhile scara saw her being seemingly innocent while also being 3rd harbinger as a giant red flag bc he's chronically paranoid pre-sumeru and warned the traveler because he knows tabibito would rather not fight innocent people
Euthya2026-01-27 14:36
I'm gonna copy another reply of mine, because I think I would reply the same thing to you :))
> Yeah, I completely get that they're not very reliable. I do think that using them as evidence for a rewrite is much less credible than the other things I brought up.

RaiStarBits2026-01-27 15:54
The angel design is what gets me, people think that some were crazy for thinking she was an angel but if she was to be a moon goddess why have that seraphim hair piece and grow angel wings? She looks like she doesn’t even belong with the other goddesses like you said and I cannot understand how people think that with her design and what was said before nod Krai that somehow people wouldn’t think she’s some sort of angel. That headcanon did not start for no reason
Euthya2026-01-27 16:18
Right? And people act so weird and so condescending about it.
I've seen a lot of dismissal about six wings, despite being the most common Seraphim symbol. It's character design. She didn't just HAPPEN to have those, somebody designed her with them.
When they introduced the specific term "angel" for Seelie, I was completely convinced that they basically confirmed her identity. They didn't even give any good justification why she has all these motifs (because even ignoring the six wings, we have the skill and burst and all. It's not just because her name is Columbina. Her trailer literally has her posed as Lucifer. Why? I fell like this is symbolism that would go well with Koitar, for example. But what does it have to do with Columbina other than looking beautiful?)
I remember when the idea was still popular and we didn't know any better. I didn't see any vitriol against that one HoyoFair video, for example. People loved it at the time.
But since Nod-Krai, I've seen quite a few people straight up mocking the ideas like the biblically accurate interpretation. They will say how glad they are that the fans didn't write the story and how it wouldn't have made any sense and all that.
But I'm 90% sure that some of these people wouldn't have had a problem with that direction either. What matters is that Hoyo wrote it.
I really hate how people treat non-canon ideas as basically heretical. I commend theorists for putting their ideas out into this rather toxic environment.
Junior_Box_28002026-01-27 20:00
genshin lore enthusiasts and supporters are some of the most condescending people I've met, always with the "hurr durr genshin players can't read luckily I am so smart"
Paganinii2026-01-27 23:56
This sub is pretty bad for it, but asserting what "they" or "people" think has been an issue all over the internet.
It'd be nice if at least the low-stakes opinion stuff, like arts and entertainment, would acknowledge diversity of experience and let people speak for themselves instead of going for the mad-and-superior approach, though.
PvZGaming12026-01-27 16:33
Exactly, plus her mask has the seelie court design (which are angels)
Way_Moby2026-01-27 18:09
Isn’t there lore that angels were made, at least in part, from draconic scraps or something? If so, maybe the angels were based on the design of the Moon Goddesses. In other words, maybe Columbina is one of the OG [draconic] “angels”.
lacena2026-01-27 18:10
I think people looked at her design and (correctly) noticed all the angel motifs, but I also think being a an angel and being a moon aren't mutually exclusive.
In eschatology, angels come in different ranks, and seraphim are very near the top. They're the angels "closest to god". If the Heavenly Principles created their order by usurping the existing systems of Teyvat, then the "lesser angels", like seelies, should be based on the order of higher angels, like the Moons.
Some of my evidence for this is that characters that later turned out to be angels often had strong associations with the moon, such as Nabu Malikata and Zibai.
but the biggest hint comes in the form of Arlecchino. She too has seraphim motifs all over her design. You can see some of them right there in the Lazzo trailer, just below her neck. If you think of angels as only being seelies, then her having these motifs would make no sense. At the time, I was confused too.
But with the reveal in Fontaine that she's associated with the Crimson Moon, it connects the dots that angels and moons are related to each other.
PvZGaming12026-01-27 16:35
I also think she was re-written merely due to the fact that there was no point of her being associated with the Fatui in the first place. She didn't even get a harbinger introduction, but already had left them the first time we meet her in-game
rirasama2026-01-28 07:18
Yeah this, she did absolutely nothing as a fatui member, so her being shown as a harbinger makes very little sense unless she was rewritten
RoyAhoym2026-01-27 13:42
Can we all ask a more interesting question? Yes, they maybe changed something to make her fit the new role they made for archon. Let’s all move and engage in less boring questions.
Necessary_Effort70752026-01-27 14:35
Scara and childe both have dialogue describing her as terrifying. It is objectively a retcon
jjaybuill2026-01-27 14:41
at least she turned out right, i would hate her if she was some crazy bitch
Kevtastrophe2026-01-27 14:45
Get ready to feel this with the cryo archon
0010282026-01-27 16:38
I'm dreading it so much. Waifu/husbando wars aside, it's just so damn boring that every playable character turns out to be nice. Even the harbingers who were supposed to be antagonists. They're our allies now more often than not. There's no variety, no suspense, no stakes, and it's painfully unrealistic at this point. It feels so forced.
Kevtastrophe2026-01-27 17:56
Yeah, they really want to sell that "companionship". I guess it does well for people who really love those characters. I think it's more of an eastern thing where they cater to the lonely crowd. Vs western where a lot of people prefer more lore accurate characters.
Maybe I'm thinking too much 🤣
g0ngagax2026-01-27 14:59
My only question is why would they draw her smiling while singing? Isn't that out of character for her to be all smiles near a coffin of her friend?
JokeOk42402026-01-27 15:18
Idk maybe it’s how she mourns atleast thats how they interpret it
g0ngagax2026-01-27 15:21
Imo thats the only real clue that they in fact changed her character because at this point it would be ooc for her to do that .if she wasn't smiling I wouldn't even bat an eye
JokeOk42402026-01-27 15:24
Fair, her design may be another clue as well as someone has explained as well as the VA audition card.
natlansucks2026-01-27 19:05
It's obvious she was rewritten, I don't know why people still deny it. Firstly, hoyo can't plan out everything 5 years in advance. And secondly, marketing is way more important than the story since it's a gacha game.
Current Columbina has the shy, innocent girl with a sob story character archetype, somewhat similar to Furina (their most successful character ever), which is *much* more marketable to the game's main audience than the unpredictable, unnerving, mysterious, unfeeling, violent character she was described as initially.
g0ngagax2026-01-27 19:15
I agree I don't know why people get so defensive over this subject
TetraNeuron2026-01-27 22:35
Yeah I'm a fan of current Columbina and still recognize she was likely rewritten based on the old Snezhfed/VA leaks being dead accurate on rooster/pantalone and snezhnaya lore that has only been revealed recently
I think a big problem is that most people denying an internal rewrite assume Scary-Bina was dreamed up by community headcanon, when it was fueled by actual leaks.
azahel4522026-01-27 20:10
> hoyo can't plan out everything 5 years in advance
I'm pretty sure they did but changed things to add more longevity to the game, which is why they shoved Nod Krai there.
In fact, things are getting pretty weird with all of these uber powerful characters doing the craziest stuff that make the initial lore smaller in comparison. I'm not sure if I like this direction, but I understand it in terms of longevity.
Knight99102026-01-27 21:55
Venti shoves an entire continent into another time dimension to stop the Abyss.
Zhongli creates a new landmass by accident as collateral damage in a fight.
Raiden cuts a continent in half.
Nahida's predecessor catching a psychic plague almost kills the entire planet.
Neuvilette casually de-floods an entire continent (that is already at mountain height so would have flooded the entire world realistically).
Mavuika rewrites the laws of the afterlife to make death obsolete.
You only just now think that characters are performing unrealistically crazy feats of strength?
Monochromatic_Sun2026-01-27 15:08
They did nail the creepy cute aura farm back then
mizukigomen9992026-01-27 15:22
i still love her either way
Alex24222026-01-27 15:23
People need to stop pretending the entirety of Fatui introductions wasn't made misleading on purpose by Hoyo just to add to the hype and mystery.
King_Kaii002026-01-27 15:30
So long and goodnight!
Kazuha-simp2026-01-27 16:43
Fanon Columbina being cool as fuck, meanwhile canon bina being just another soft innocent waifu who loves the traveler and y'all somehow prefer this. Hoyos obsession with making every female character be actually soft and innocent and and not letting any of them be actually mean and not besties with the traveler is creepy. We had perfect actual mean characters like arle and sandrone and then hoyo made sandrone into a tsundere and arle just straight up did a 180° and became our dear friend and everything bad she did she was actually forced to do. Why can't a female character just simply be a bitch and not want to be our friend, like sandrone at the beginning, and then suddenly it turns out she was just pretending.
Able-Ad38442026-01-27 17:12
The way Hoyo retcons makes Kishimoto jealous.
Hollywill062026-01-27 17:48
Tbh, I knew Columbina would be a innocent (former) harbinger because Genshin present most medium females as innocent
Spina-Di2026-01-27 19:21
So true lol. I thought she was some overpowered psycho harbinger that time.
Junior_Box_28002026-01-27 19:59
I mean it's certainly unusual to lay over the coffin and sing an eerie lullaby with a smile on your face. Esp for someone who was supposedly your friend
Octopusnoodlearms2026-01-28 00:31
I feel like it’s dishonest to jump through hoops to act like her personality being like this was the plan all along. If they wanted to convey her mourning in the way today’s Columbina would, they simply wouldn’t draw it like this.
Commentaires
Everything else about Columbina I did not expect, but she ended up being a pleasant surprise
I guess we all became Sandrone ehe
WE CARRY THE FLAMES
He's probably given order to use it if he fail to get gnosis with Signora knowing full well he would fail to get the gnosis.
It's rather ironic that Osial moment is taken as Childe being some kind of mass murder instead of loyal soldier, when outside of the AQ every single time we meet him on other mission/not on a mission we get to see his personality is consistently a man who just love throwing hands with worthy opponents...just like how he was talking during the fight right before Osial part.
Yes, [just following orders](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superior_orders) totally absolve Childe. Oh wait...
"This is so sad, Columbina sing Despacito."
Every funeral I’ve attended has had at least someone sing a mourning song for the deceased.
I’m genuinely asking cause I’ve only been to funerals for family members and I just assumed this was something everyone did
Edit: This isn't even the first harbinger funeral. Crucabena must have had one too.
Maybe it is the similar case for Columbina?
Girl doesn't show much emotions even after her development .
I thought that was just a common thing to have music and singing at funerals. In fact I think I would even find it more weird and soulless if there was no music at all at a funeral.
“Mika from monsdtadt shot timmies pidgeons, you get a leg of fowl and your honey roasts tickin”
Do you know how much time it takes to rewrite a whole ass character ? Nothing in the story told us she was that eldritch killing angel the fandom decided as their head canon.
Like, there is NOTHING that made her not scary. We fear the unknown and she was the unknownest
Columbia was supposed to be evil and they fucked her in a rewrite, there, is that what you want to hear? Gachas players and being illiterate name a more iconic duo.
No, I don't think Columbina was evil and I do actually like her friendship with the other Harbingers, her character was left mysterious in WNL for a purpose until Hoyo decided what to do with her in the story later on.
Of course she'd be sorta like that if you were only valued for your powers and not who you are as a person
Though by her own admission her mind is a bit up there prior to her resurrection (what weak connection to your moon does to a moon goddess).
Dropped her fully after she turned out to just be another one of those characters
And I just think it's quite unfair.
It's easy to connect the dots and justify everything now, and nobody can really contradict you because that's just the current canon.

> Yeah, I completely get that they're not very reliable. I do think that using them as evidence for a rewrite is much less credible than the other things I brought up.

It'd be nice if at least the low-stakes opinion stuff, like arts and entertainment, would acknowledge diversity of experience and let people speak for themselves instead of going for the mad-and-superior approach, though.
Maybe I'm thinking too much 🤣
Current Columbina has the shy, innocent girl with a sob story character archetype, somewhat similar to Furina (their most successful character ever), which is *much* more marketable to the game's main audience than the unpredictable, unnerving, mysterious, unfeeling, violent character she was described as initially.
I think a big problem is that most people denying an internal rewrite assume Scary-Bina was dreamed up by community headcanon, when it was fueled by actual leaks.
