Fatui means fool or stupid and their enemy is HP, who is Reason. Opposite of reason is foolish or stupid. Pierro named the army this probably not just against Hroptatyr, who called the Wise, but also HP.

Considering the contrast between the "fool" idea and what the Fatui are up to now, sometimes I feel like the name is meant to mock the Heavenly Principles where come the day they are defeated by the Fatui, they can say the wise and powerful were beaten by the fools those powerful ones looked down on.
For all intents and purposes it could have been a name given by the Heavenly Principles or whoever all-powerful being that mocked what the Fatui were doing, and they just embraced it

Dottore did a lot by becoming a Trilune god, but (AFAIK, I'm still a little behind on that lore) the sisters' power was still a step below Nibelung and HP. Lune-tore probably still couldn't challenge the heavens in the way Pierro would want.

Tbf, we still don't know their full plan, and the real *reason* (pun shamelessly intended) why they're doing it. But whatever it is, we are sure that it's not on its final phase yet, considering the Fatui still has a loose end back in Natlan, namely Mavuika's Gnosis.
Speaking of, I wonder who's stronger, Lunatorre with 2 marrows + 1 articial, or The Tsaritsa with 6 Gnoses?

We got a new book in this version “A Brief History of the Pale Starborn” that has some big reveals of Tsarista and Fatui past.
The Tsaritsa has the Druzhna, army that the original Cryo Archon used to protect himself probably based on real life [Druzhina](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Druzhina) the Personal Guard and Councilors of a prince or chieftain in Russia.
So it’s part literal the Fatui and the Harbingers are really the fools and they aren’t Tsaritsa main force.

The book says the Tsaritsa used the Fatui instead of the Druzhna. She basically replaced the original Cryo Archon's army with her own, the Fatui.

The Reason that the Heavenly Principles stand for, doesn't seem related to inteligence, but rather cause. HP is Reason, because HP is the one that forged and enforces all the rules that currently bind Teyvat. Everything happens the way it does, because of HP. They are the Reason.
Meanwhile, Pierro has a hatred for so called wise sages that did nothing but feed into the king's madness, while he was the fool for seeing the reality of their situation. The name is a "If seeing the truth is foolish, then they are going to be fools"

\- Arlecchino, 4th Harbinger, stronger now than back in Fontaine, but a **fraud** and quite unreliable considering she's willing to turn her back against the Tsaritsa if needed be
\- Sandrone, 7th Harbinger, >!who will revive in 6.7 to shill superconduct and push Lunar reactions out of the meta somehow. Most likely she leaves the Fatui after her revival!<
