In the defense of the Heavenly Principles...
At this point, I think it’s clear that Celestia is an antagonist, and that its leader (or perhaps former leader—we don’t know for sure yet), Phanes, can be considered the mastermind behind all of Teyvat.
I think we can all agree that Celestia is… a genocider, to say the least. We have the destruction of Khaenri’ah, the killing of the Sovereigns, and the execution of other individuals simply for knowing the truth. I do believe the Archons are also bad people.
Now, how can you defend a genocider? Well, you can’t 💀 but the thing is, from a humanoid perspective, the Heavenly Principles aren’t that bad EVEN IF you know the whole story. At the end of the day, Celestia did create a safe realm for humans. Sure, it might be a prison, but come on—who would even want to go into that dangerous, inhuman space beyond it? Is it really a prison? It’s not like, as a human, there’s anything you could actually do beyond the borders.
Hypothetically, if any of us were characters in Genshin, we’d be normal people. Sure, some of us might be Allogenes or important characters, but the rest of us? We’d be those NPCs from Liyue.
Now do you see where I’m coming from? Why would we, as Liyue NPCs, give a damn about overthrowing Celestia? We wouldn’t want to overthrow Celestia, because the Principles are literally protecting us. A human would be torn to pieces in 2 seconds if they lived in a pre-Phanes world.
Oh well. Don't take this post too seriously, IMO Celestia is bad, like the reason most bad shit happens is because of them, but is it really that bad, cause from a selfish humanoid perspective, Celestia do be keeping humans safe and made helped create civilizations and cultures and spread humans across the whole continent.

I understand Their reasoning. They opt to sacrifice the few for the many.
It's basically like a zombie movie, in a way.
You can either try to be the good and stupid guy who tries to save the few while dooming the many (open the door to save one person who may or may not be infected)
Or you shut that door and do not risk everyone else.
Let’s take religion. I’m going to use Christianity as an example (I could use any religion actually, polytheistic or monotheistic, it would work with each of them; I’m just going to take Christianity because I’m from a Christian country, and there are over 1 billion self-proclaimed Christians, so it’s easier to understand).
We know that God, according to Christians, created the world, space, time, nature, life, and, very importantly, order.
We love God for that. We are here because of God. Am I right? Can I get an amen? ✊😍
Now, some of us might realize that God isn’t that fair or kind. Like, He made very weird decisions by not interfering in serious historical events, such as the colonization of America or the Holocaust. Some of us might think He’s kinda….well, evil.
So what do we do if we don’t like God? We destroy Him (obviously, think about this like in Genshin). But do we really want to destroy God....…?? He is the one who created us and left us with a purpose: to rule the Earth. So why would we want to destroy His divine order? Do we want everyone to be equal? To all stay in the jungle and fight every day? Do we really want this? Do we really want to overthrow the comfort of order, our phones, our comfy beds, our well made yummy food in the fridge, for......equality and truth???
LMFAOO this is so funny. I think Phanes might be based on God (or Allah and Yahweh, call it whatever you want). Like, think of the dinosaurs as the Sovereigns, and then BOOM—God came (like Phanes did) and eradicated them, then put humans to rule (the story of Eden), just like Phanes did with the eggshell or whatever he did with those eggs
It is the difference between a monotheistic and polytheistic religion. In polytheistic religions, gods kill each other all the time so they carry the concept of mortality. They are also all considered to be as equally fallible as humans.
But in a monotheistic religion, especially the Judeo Christian religions, God cannot be wrong. The only thing that can be wrong is you for not understanding the reasoning for the action or inaction.
I guess I didn’t use the right word. I don't know what can you call someone who can't die of time and needs a considerable feat of force to be killed. I apologise.
Anyway my analysis still stands, and you can frankly compare it with most other religions, so don't take this too seriously 😁
Anyway it’s all shaping up a lot like horizon dawn’s plot, which has this similar machine killing ppl theme, fix the machine plot.
Celestia did not kill anyone for knowing the truth.
Celestia nails people for threatening the world.
