The fact Surtalogi was actually a pretty decent guy before becoming a cosmic calamity is hilarious

Ah yes, playable character potential.

Dottore mains enters chat
AnaYuma2026-01-27 21:11
Except Dottore never was a decent guy... Okay maybe he was one when he was still a kid before being driven out by the villagers calling him a heretic or something like that...
TailorUnlikely99802026-01-27 21:26
Rejected by fellow academy researchers 💔💔💔
AngelofIceAndFire2026-01-27 21:44
He wanted to go to school, but was rejected, so he went into politics.
Ah, my bad, wrong person.
Wayfinder52026-01-27 21:50
Meanwhile his name, Zandik meaning heretic. Like what kind of parents just names their child heretic from birth?
Letwen2026-01-27 22:20
Yeah. Knowing how names affect your fate in Teyvat he was doomed from the start. Everybody was going to reject him no matter what kind of person he was.
No wonder he thinks the way he does and sees every reletionship as transactional. He has never known anything else. If anything he has every right to hate the world that binded him to this fate.
It is also the reason he keeps pursuing the one person that isn't affected by fate in hopes of company. Too bad he has never learned the social skills to do so.
LaughingHornet2026-01-28 05:23
The fact that names have an actual TANGIBLE effect in someone’s destiny (not getting into the fact Destiny itself EXISTS in Genshin) is probably what’s so mind boggling about the whole Dottore thing cus of how the main story doesn’t ever really touch on the fact people are predetermined to live their lives a certain way
So it’s very funny when the game does go on the “No, you shouldn’t rebel in THAT way!”. It’s like that scene in the X-Men movie where Storm tells Rouge “Oh we’re perfect, we don’t need to be fixed!” without ANY self-awareness at all that miss Weather control over here is speaking to a girl who kills anyone she touches!
Like cool message, I see what you’re trying to do writers! But all this is coming across as someone privileged telling someone off cus “it’s not THAT bad” but completely meaning it.
FallenAngelII2026-01-28 13:22
Is that just fanon or is there actually lore evidence that your name will affect your fate?
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-27 22:23
The same kind of parents who would name their children Scar, Cruella, or whatever other on the nose names you could think of.
Koanos2026-01-28 02:53
Makes me wonder about Skirk as a name.
PantheraAuroris2026-01-27 23:33
I wonder if he picked that name himself as a teenager or something.
Koanos2026-01-28 02:51
Names are intrinsically tied to Fate in Teyvat.
Lbbm_burner_account2026-01-28 03:03
It’s wild seeing the Dottore sub defend him, and act like his actions this quest is OOC

Hello, I am Dottore mains. Let me cope lmaooo
bluedragjet2026-01-27 21:50
Unironically, out of the 5 sinner, Surtalogi & Rerir have the highest chance to be playable because they had the least amount of impact on Teyvat. Only affecting one region
Wild hunt for Nodkrai and the beach whale for Fontaine
TailorUnlikely99802026-01-27 21:55
Did Hroptatyr ever affect Teyvat though ?
Chucknasty_172026-01-27 22:03
As of now we don’t really anything about him besides that he was president of the Universitas Magistrorum. He’s the sinner we know the least about by far
LunaticPlaguebringer2026-01-27 22:23
His abyssal power is also "Blasphemy against Reason" which means his authority is a twisted version of the Heavenly Principles' , whose powers seem to govern Teyvat's unique laws.
bluedragjet2026-01-27 22:10
The way the game is treating Hroptatyr, I wouldn't be surprised if he's Pierro
Letwen2026-01-27 22:40
Pierro is 99% Eftirvit, Vice President of the Universitas Magistrorum. He has MANY parallels going on with Hroptatyr.
The name Eftirvit means "foolishness", hence the Jester and Fatui. Pierro's constellation is the mask of fool.
In parallel to that, Hroptatyr is "The Wise". The only time he was shown was with a mask complete opposite of Pierro's. The laughing mask, compared to Pierro's crying one.
Apparently Hroptatyr was also the closest person King Irmin, and also the most influential person in Khaenri'ah. He was supporting of the usage of Abyss from what we know. His status as "blasphemy against reason" only makes him more suspicious. From how the things are going, it is very likely that he's the big villain we're going to face.
madtitanmrsandman2026-01-27 23:19
I kinda feel like Vedrfolnir is also very likely to be the big bad of the story. We don't really know anything about Hroptatyr, except his titles and status, but nothing that particularly points towards his actual role in the story. Vedrfolnir, on the other hand, is more established as a character, and narratively he just fits the role of the main antagonist imo. He makes prophecies that always come true, tying into the themes of fate within various story arcs. He is Dain's brother, and Dain is a central character to the overarching story, so there's already a personal connection. He may very well be responsible for Rerir's downfall, since he is the Blasphemy against Time and could've been speaking to him from the future. He's also arguably the reason why the Abyss Order exists, since Chlothar started to worship him, and Vedrfolnir seemingly enabled them to create the Loom of Fate from Caribert.
The last thing I find particularly interesting, because, if I'm not misremembering, the Traveler stated that their greatest fear is the Abyss that has taken their sibling. And, well, Vedrfolnir is kinda that Abyss, since he's somewhat responsible for the creation of the Abyss Order. It just makes sense to make him the main villain. Well, him or the Heavenly Principles themselves.
Letwen2026-01-27 23:54
Vedrfolnir will definitely end up in a moral gray area, that I'm sure of. You just need to look at the details.
While they are arguing about raiding the palace they talk about how Vedrfolnir and Hroptatyr are the closest people to king. Then Rhinedottir calls Hroptatyr "slimy" unlike Vedrfolnir, and you can take that for a fact coming from Rhine.
Vedrfolnir went ahead and told the king what he didn't want to hear, even though he knew it wouldn't end good for him. There wasn't any ulterior motives in that, as he said his priorities at the time was the nation's well being. And he even lost his ability to see the future at that point.
All in all, he seemed like a decent person pre-cataclysm. What he did after that, we have zero way of knowing his reasonings. Why he created the abyss order, why set the things in motion for loom of fate. But we do know what kind of person he was, and other sinners doesn't seem to have changed much.
Now look at Hroptatyr. The guy that stayed by the "mad" King Irmin till the night he stabbed him in the back. The King apparently listened to him and Ved only, but then he says to Rhinedottir that he only appeases him in the interest of universitas. Rhinedottir's remark about him does start to show.
Also notice the 2 individuals that Hroptatyr parallels. Pierro, The Fool, and Phanes themselves.
Pierro's reasoning for calling himself "The Fool" is very likely the fall of Khaenri'ah, as he could've prevented it. So who would "The Wise" be in this situation? He just seems too fishy.
Aluricius2026-01-28 01:30
There's also the fact that Vedrfolnir's Abyssal self is stated to exist *outside of time*, which has a number of horrifying implications.
It's entirely possible his precognition even as a human was due to this fact (in essence he could see the future because his future-self - who due to being outside of time existed concurrently with his present self - could see *all* time), which would essentially mean the man never actually had any sort of free will to begin with. From the moment Vedrfolnir was born, he was destined to inevitably fall into the Abyss and become a Sinner.
madtitanmrsandman2026-01-28 02:16
Fair enough, although the main antagonist of the story does not necessarily have to be the most evil character. I kinda have a feeling that Hroptatyr will be more important in Snezhnaya because of all his connections to Pierro and the Fatui, while Vedrfolnir will be more important in Khaenri'ah because of his connections to the Abyss Order and Dain, but that's just a guess.
But all the pointed out details are quite interesting, Hroptatyr is definitely very fishy and intriguing. I just feel like the story so far points towards Vedrfolnir as the main villain more because of his clear involvement, but who knows what will come in the future. To be fair, I'm a bit biased, because I really want him to be the big bad. But I'll agree, Hroptatyr's status definitely also suggests a very important role, with a potential to be the final villain.
NumericZero2026-01-28 00:03
Definitely could see him whispering into the foolish kings ear
Telling him that abyss power is the right choice
Maleficent-Feed35662026-01-27 22:45
Would make zero sense. Pierro is the crying mask, hroptatyr is the smiling one
Cheese_Grater1012026-01-28 02:27
It's a possibility that they're responsible for the twins getting pulled into Teyvat
Well the sibling for this case
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-27 22:27
Out of the 5 sinners, the one who has the highest chance at being playable is Rhinedottir for the sole reason of not being male or faceless-- I mean, because... uh, Nicole and Alice are also likely to be playable. Hexenzirkel, amirite guys?
Jex454622026-01-28 00:33
Nicole is basically confirmed based on the last livestream
BillysTown2026-01-27 23:39
Rhinedottir has done insane work on Teyvat and because her abyss voice is seemingly gone Hoyo is treating her past like nothing happened so if she can get this tame. Surely the others can too no? The Abyss voice being gone feels like a cop out her 🤣

grumpykruppy2026-01-27 19:43
That's what happens when you get corrupted by the Abyss.
A dude who fought for the little guy and had a strong sense of honor got warped into a totalitarian warmonger and excessively strict (to say, uh, the absolute least) teacher.

[deleted]
Significant_Store_842026-01-27 20:38
I wouldn't place all the blame on the abyss; instead, I'd say Haden bears a great deal of the blame. After all, Surtalogi had to get his... *strict* way of teaching from somewhere
BoughKeeper2026-01-27 21:59
Yeah, unlike Dain he never had a loving family member(who was also a high ranking political figure)
Volarevia292026-01-27 21:35
Yeah and you could say his personality stayed and got amplified in some warped way. Just look at Skirk.
imbusthul2026-01-27 19:50
Idk, I am afraid of Hroptatyr more than Surtalogi, Vedrfolnir or Rhindottir. A politician with absolute power? That's the stuff of nightmares.
Volarevia292026-01-27 19:51
Blasphemy against REASON? Reason? As in Phanes the primordial one? Yeah we're cooked.
imbusthul2026-01-27 19:52
And on top of all that, we know absolutely nothing about him. Like none at all.
Gregamonster2026-01-27 20:25
He's probably related to Pierro, since he's represented by a Comedy mask while Pierro is represented by a Tragedy mask.
imbusthul2026-01-27 20:27
Yeah. Pierro was the Vice President and his name is Eftirvit
Volarevia292026-01-27 20:37
So his name WAS Eftirvit
imbusthul2026-01-27 20:38
His name translates to Afterthought I believe.
Top-Idea-17862026-01-27 22:25
It's also why he called the group "Fatui", which means "Fool", its to directly counteract the title of "wise"
TetraNeuron2026-01-27 22:41
Hroptatyr gaining Abyssal version of Reason powers makes me wonder if he is the reason the Heavenly Principles is comatose right now
Nientea2026-01-28 00:58
Maybe he pulled a Rhinedottir and consumed them, and we just don’t know because HP has been dormant for so long

We're right to be afraid.
Zeek0_2452026-01-28 12:03
Perhaps the new master of Asmoday
what42702026-01-27 21:30
He tryna fight a literal GOD of Teyvat. Yeah, this dude is definitely built different.
LordDhaDha2026-01-27 19:58
I have a hunch that Hroptatyr is the one pulling the strings behind everything, and may have even been the main reason for the Abyss’s influence in the first place (minus the whole King Irmin/Abyss Sibling thing)
He’s too obscure with little to nothing about him while also being the one who’s opposing the function of HP
Zeek0_2452026-01-28 12:03
Also could be Asmoday’s master
OneRelief7632026-01-27 21:35
Him being the Comedy mask is all the more terrifying
BoughKeeper2026-01-27 21:55
He was a scholar and a sage, not a politician. He was the president of Universitas Magistrorum
grumpykruppy2026-01-27 22:44
He was *also* a politician, though. Not necessarily in name but very much in practice.
Chucknasty_172026-01-27 22:10
If [this name card](https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Achievement:_Orbits) is anything to go by, the Universitas Magistrorum, which Hroptatyr was in charge of, played a part in the Twins arriving in Teyvat. How this will integrate with current lore remains to be seen, but I think it’s clear that Hroptatyr has been and will be a very influential figure in the lore and story of the game
Top-Idea-17862026-01-27 22:26
There are theories that Hroptatyr managed to change the twins ' ship trajectory, forcing them to come to Teyvat.
TetraNeuron2026-01-27 22:42
Hroptatyr: "I faked a landing signal and caused the twins spaceship to crashland lol"
Ecstatic_Trainer_4982026-01-28 10:22
He knew the twins will come.
PantheraAuroris2026-01-27 23:34
The fact that Rhinedottir is a Shade now as well as made an immortal murder machine (Bakunawa) wins her as most scary for me.
KazakiriKaoru2026-01-28 00:52
And he's the one that brought the Twins into Teyvat before basically kidnapping the Abyss Sibling.
Hroptatyr is possibly the reason why our Abyss Sibling lost their memories, perhaps due to incorrect cryostasis reawakening.
Firm-Soil-31762026-01-28 01:15
Rhines's pure insane accomplishments and blasphemy against life draws me to her, hroparyr's mystery and also the horror of just not knowing wtf is up with this dude makes me like him as well, blasphemy against life and reason are the most interesting to me anyways
arseholierthanthou2026-01-28 01:55
What does blasphemy against life mean? She tried to create life. And when it didn't go quite as planned, she kept trying. And eventually (Albedo) she succeeded.
Fancy-Shopping-3272026-01-28 02:09
i believe thats just a fancy title of theirs, as they were granted the same authorities as Shades by the abyss, thus being technically blasphemous versions of the shades. Rerir and Surtalogi dont do anything particularly targeted towards their Shades anyway
BillysTown2026-01-27 21:23
Born in the slums and treated like shit/lost limbs but still kept “A smile of his face” feels like he just came from some random anime. Out of all sinners his crimes before becoming a sinner/tempted by the abyss was tame af no? From what we know.
Volarevia292026-01-27 21:25
He was pretty much just the son of dead criminals, if I remember well. Besides yeah he was the only one who showed some empathy to Dain when his brother was locked up. And he def kept the anime protagonist energy by getting exponentially stronger over the last 500 years.
BillysTown2026-01-27 21:31
He fr took that power and dipped out of Teyvat lmao , not to mention a desire for strength is probably the most gripping hold the Abyss could have on someone too as it’s never ending imo
BoughKeeper2026-01-27 21:57
>Besides yeah he was the only one who showed some empathy to Dain when his brother was locked up
This is technically a leak. >! it's because in a leaked glider text, Vedrfolnir and Dainsleif were very welcoming to him, even fed him vegetables which only nobles had access to. He knew Ved a long while before that, and that to personally.!<
Volarevia292026-01-27 21:58
Wow I didn't know that, that's wholesome.
BoughKeeper2026-01-27 22:05
Which is even more sad considering Dain got betrayed by both his blood brother and brother in suffering (his own words)
TetraNeuron2026-01-27 22:43

soaringneutrality2026-01-27 22:59
Yeah, remember that Khaenri'ah is an underground nation. They ate mostly mushrooms.
Ok-Mycologist22202026-01-27 23:02
Probably, they live underground so most people probably eating mushrooms or something.
PantheraAuroris2026-01-27 23:35
Yeah. Khaenri'ah found it easier to alchemize animals than plants underground, so they were effectively carnivorous except for the wealthy, who could get scarce trade with the surface.
KazakiriKaoru2026-01-28 00:53
Khaenri'ah was underground and barely had sunlight
TheSynthian2026-01-27 21:49
That’s literally not even close to his actual mindset and POV.
You are right about born in slums and got treated bad and everything. And you are technically right about he was “smiling” the whole way.
But his reasons are way different from basically most anime characters with similar sad backstory. He wasn’t smiling because he hoped for the better or still saw good or something.
He smiled because he basically gave 0 fucks about how others would treat him. His mentality in simple is, you are responsible for everything happening in your life, everyone else actions are not good or bad, they are just actions. And how they affect you are your own responsibility.
That’s why his friend tells us, Surtalogi smiled “as if he couldn’t tell the difference between good and bad” because he actually couldn’t. He was basically thinking the world as survival of the fittest, true to nature way. You won’t blame a lion for eating you, if you got injured or became an easy prey.
And when something bad happens to him, he takes the full responsibility.
Sacriven2026-01-27 23:16
Bro is basically Guts from Berserk and his crashout is 100% valid.

Sometimes I wonder if Surtalogi is a dark reflection of Ajax given how both pursue strength.
Chingiz112026-01-27 22:23
Considering Dain's narration in Tartaglia's trailer, I would say it's the other way around(as in, Ajax being a reflection of Surtalogi and being a disciple of his disciple, wielding his Legacy and living for the thrill of the fight, despite the way Skirk has trained him)
Nonetheless, Ajax always has his family as number 1 priority :)
NoOne2152026-01-27 23:34
I like this interpretation.
TheGungnirGuy2026-01-28 01:50
Worth noting that Ajax's mentality - Fuck everything else, protect family/friends - *is* something Surtalogi believed in. Surtalogi did all kinds of crazy shit to help out friends when he was younger, and before he left, he even offered to break the curse of immortality of his best friend - something that he hasn't offered any other Khaenrian alive.
I can absolutely believe that Childe takes after Surtalogi, and that those traits are what drew Skirk to him in the first place, knowingly or otherwise.
GuideBusy31022026-01-27 21:31
Surtalogi will return in Avengers doomsday
Halothane422026-01-27 21:33
He's pretty interesting, cause you can see he's not a monster, paradoxically. Even Skirk who literally lost her limbs because of him doesn't deny his charisma.
Volarevia292026-01-27 21:35
"He turned my life into hell but he's mad tuff ngl"
TheSynthian2026-01-27 22:02
He was decent on surface only.
He was not evil for sure. And despite what people believe, he is still not evil, imo.
And I think he is one of the only sinners, whose mindset “DID NOT” change that much before and after taking abyssal powers.
This is very clear in Skirk’s story quest. His old friend who knew the Surtalogi before becoming a sinner and Skirk who only knew him after becoming a sinner, both of them were talking about him and his mindset the same way. They were in the same page about Surtalogi all the way.
Even his core goal remained the same. And Skirk even use his old friends mindset to get some insights on Surtalogi’s mindset.
So if you think he was a decent guy before he is a decent guy now too. In Khaenri’ah he just had to restrict and limit himself because he was living within a society and dependent on it.
Now he just does what he wants without any constraints. That’s the only difference. Even before becoming a sinner, he was amoral and very indifferent, his friend tells how he didn’t care about good and evil, this is why I think he was/is never evil, because he don’t even subscribe to the idea of good and bad to begin with.
Since the beginning he was things as just actions and you have to be responsible for yourself and things that matters to you. Do your best to survive. Which includes following rules of a society when you can’t survive on your alone completely (pre-sinner Surtalogi).
Maybe this mindset plus his exceptional talent for abyssal energy (mentioned in seven shifting serpent introduction), is the reason he didn’t change much and got to keep his core personality and goal intact.
Maybe it got amplified but his abyssal effect is more like someone becoming a billionaire and showing his true colors, compared to going crazy or getting brainwashed by the abyss.
RoboChrist2026-01-27 22:43
>Now he just does what he wants without any constraints.
>Even before becoming a sinner, he was amoral and very indifferent
That's evil, you just described what evil is. Being indifferent to the suffering of others is evil.
Letwen2026-01-27 23:20
Idk. Rhinedottir and Hroptatyr didn't sound too bothered when Dain brough the news. Only Surtalogi was worried about Vedrfolnir when the rest were arguing. He even suggested the raid before Dain said anything. But he phrased it as "rescuing Ved" instead of storming the palace, which is an important detail.
It's obvious everyone was after something else that night, and the only one Dain really had on his side was Surtalogi. He does seem like a decent guy. It's obvious he wouldn't leave anyone he cares about behind, which is why Dain's betrayal accusations come off as weird.
What I think happened is he didn't feel obliged to save the nation that treated him like shit. And Dain took that personal.
The only thing he had and carried about was his strength and they even went the length to unjustly cut off his arm and leg. Even then he didn't even bear a grudge towards Rerir for his sentencing, and respected him for having Dain's trust.
Dain is really gonna get a whiplash once he sees the nation he loves through others perspective. Like how does he expect Surtalogi to be their savior after all that.
This guy is goated af idc what anyone says.
TheSynthian2026-01-28 00:48
I basically explained all of these actions in my comment,
He is not stupid, if someone is an ally he treat them well. I mean why would he cause unnecessary friction for no reason. Especially when he still needed them. But that’s not because he genuinely cares for them like a regular person would. He does it because they are “allies” to him, and loyal to him.
When something “doesn’t interfere with his goals” or serves him too, he is a good friend. But the moment it even remotely involves his goals, he chooses his goal without a second thought.
I mean I don’t know what’s the point in debating this, when him doing exactly that to one of his best friends at one of the worst moments, is like a main point in the story.
But when it doesn’t cost him much or interfere with goals, he takes care of his allies. Like we saw in Skirk story quest with his old friend, and he is friendly with Ved even after becoming a sinner.
But he has no issues betraying Dain because to him his goals and himself > everything else. It’s not even a struggle to him. I mean he does say everyone must survive themselves. He doesn’t believe in relying on others with 100% certainty.
I also explain in that previous comment, why he wasn’t holding any grudges and why he was seemingly ok with his unjust treatment. It’s because he doesn’t see actions of others as good or bad. And he takes full responsibility for everything happening to him in his life.
If he got his hand cut off, it’s because he lacked strength and was in a position to make it happen. That’s probably a reason he is obsessed with ultimate strength, to never be in a vulnerable position. But he never blame anyone for that, he is responsible for his survival.
He and other 3 sinners (not counting the total loser bum Rerir) are extremely selfish and self centered. Focus and obsessed with their goals. (Maybe this obsession is a reason why they got selected by the abyss to begin with).
They are only decent as long as they need you and their goals aren’t involved. It’s similar to a well fed lion in a park, you can try to pet it, but don’t confuse it with a house-cat.
Top-Idea-17862026-01-27 22:28
Born to two criminals on the death sentence, forced to live in the slums.
Became Anime Thanos
Skylair952026-01-27 22:31
I mean, even as a Sinner... He's probably the least bad of the bunch. Still bad obviously, but the rest is worse. Surtalogi at least doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would kill random people for fun, he wants an actual challenge so he wouldn't give a fuck about random people.
Livid_Boysenberry_582026-01-27 22:46
Yes, he's so much better for preferring to abuse people he knows.
Yes
Skylair952026-01-27 23:51
Well i did say he still was evil. But the other Sinner seem to be much worse. With Rhinedottir releasing whatever new creation she made (and i'm sure she wouldn't mind using anyone she find if she needed some "test subject"), Rerir just unleashing the Wild Hunt on anything that moves and Vedrfolnir (involontary i guess) being worshipped as a god while drawing people to him... We don't know much about Hroptatyr, but Surtalogi still seem like the least bad of the ones we know.

Rerir is way better. He was just insane the entire time, and in his current state is a man who regrets everything he did and actively tries to make amends

I think the plot for all the sinners is people intending to do good who lost sight of doing actual good in pursuit of salvation (the abyss)

“Something something, power corrupts, something” basically that
Surtalogi now: That's a nice family you got there. It'd be a shame if something happened to them. So finish that rep so you can get strong enough to be a proper fight.

SURTALOGI MENTIONED??

I don't know what he is except that he's ride or die and that made me like him.

Just a normal guy…until he wasn’t. Love that contrast!
MaJuV2026-01-28 10:34
The guy was addicted to fighting and getting stronger, and kept battlng, even after losing limbs.
Not sure this is the definition of "pretty decent guy". Guy had red flags going up around him that he would sacrifice everything if it meant getting stronger, or getting better fights.

Ah yes, playable character potential.
Ah, my bad, wrong person.
Wild hunt for Nodkrai and the beach whale for Fontaine
Telling him that abyss power is the right choice
Well the sibling for this case
Dainsleff suggests that despite his parents being executed,he lived an quite virtuos life...until the grandmaster knight decided to make him the posterchild of blind obedience and amputate his limbs because he was anything like that.
A dude who fought for the little guy and had a strong sense of honor got warped into a totalitarian warmonger and excessively strict (to say, uh, the absolute least) teacher.
We're right to be afraid.
He’s too obscure with little to nothing about him while also being the one who’s opposing the function of HP
Hroptatyr is possibly the reason why our Abyss Sibling lost their memories, perhaps due to incorrect cryostasis reawakening.
This is technically a leak. >! it's because in a leaked glider text, Vedrfolnir and Dainsleif were very welcoming to him, even fed him vegetables which only nobles had access to. He knew Ved a long while before that, and that to personally.!<
As in normal vegetables?
Nonetheless, Ajax always has his family as number 1 priority :)
I can absolutely believe that Childe takes after Surtalogi, and that those traits are what drew Skirk to him in the first place, knowingly or otherwise.
>Even before becoming a sinner, he was amoral and very indifferent
That's evil, you just described what evil is. Being indifferent to the suffering of others is evil.
