third descender + ending theory?
obviously huge story spoilers ahead, but i was just thinking about the games ending when (i think) i cooked something up.
The Third Descender, we don’t know who he is but we do know that his body is what the gnoses are made from. There’s plenty of theories about who he is and i like all of them tbf but i have a new idea.
when we first speak to venti he says:
*“That was a refreshing sleep. Ah, Traveler, we meet again! What? You don't remember me? Ahaha, well, allow me to join you on your quest once again. I must see to it that the bards of the world tell the Traveler's tales!”*
which was SO odd but everyone just kind of forgot about it.
Now, we know that irminsul burning is a confirmed future plot line which immediately makes you think teyvat is done for, right? irminsuls branches (leylines) protect teyvat from abyssal corruption so without it
we’re cooked.
Now, we also know that not everything that resides in teyvat is affected by irminsul, the traveller being the most obvious example.
None of the descenders would be recorded in irminsul, however, since they arent from this world.
to keep it short, i think the game will end by having us trying to leave teyvat (after irminsuls burning) with our sibling just to be stopped by the sustainer of HP once again. this time, we would wake up on the beach as the abyss sibling and journey through teyvat once more (new game+)
— i think this is plausible because it’s confirmed our abyss sibling has journeyed through this world before and our new game+ would be the journey they had in the past.
Once we wake up on this beach and fish up paimon (who could also be the third descender but that’s a whole other theory) we go to mondstat, where we see venti and he greets us.

Ventis memories did not get wiped because he is not from this world, he is the third descender (in this theory ofc).
i think this is plausible because of the fact that he said hes the weakest among the seven. The seven have their powers amplified by the gnosis, but if that gnosis was made from YOUR body, it wouldnt give you much of a boost would it?
we know that the body venti has now is not his real form, and that he took it from his friend (rip).
what if the real reason he was a wisp beforehand was because his original body was made into the gnoses?
in conclusion, the travellers are in an endless loop in teyvat and venti is the third descender.
i’m tired and typing this on my phone, if something doesn’t add up or you want to add a different opinion then feel free. i could be insanely wrong about this lmfao, i still prefer the third descender being the voyager theory.

It is not in Hoyo’s interest to maintain servers for a completed game for any longer than they have to. They could, with some hard work, modify and package the game as a single player, offline adventure RPG. However, they will need to be shown an ironclad profit case, or they will not do it. I for one would happily pay AAA game price (~$70-90 US) to purchase such a version of Genshin, but I imagine im in the minority in that regard.
So given that it is most likely Hoyo will someday end service and not produce a standalone Genshin, some intrepid game archiver will hopefully download the final version of the game and make it available to anyone who has the time and talent to repackage it as a standalone, freeware game. I’m crossing my fingers!
