A character can be meta and be your fav, these criteria are not mutually exclusive

The didn't say it was... it's unlikely all your faves are meta, hence OP's question.

I am sure they enjoy the game since they are playing how they want to play.
I also play how I want to play which means if I don't like the kit it does not matter how much I 'like' them I am not pulling to prove my love

I will never understand people with the misconception that meta =/= fun. I've seen so much of this in card games as well. It's like they have some weird ego trip of "*Hurr durr I'm having more fun than you!*".
You can have *both* you know. Things you *like* can be *meta* and things that are *meta* can be *fun*, because they *work well*.

for a lot of people, the character being meta is what makes it fun. every character can do damage, but doing the most damage for the lowest primos cost is important to people. at the same time hoyo does make strong kits for what they think will be famous characters. they have an a b c system with a being the best and these rankings get leaked quite early. for example mavuika who broke the meta had an a ranking since early october and because of that she got a lot of screentime during the archon quest and even had a "lewd bait" design. or rather those things made her a tier?
oh and also "enjoy" the game is a bit loaded. does this mean enjoy how a character looks or sounds because some might argue that looking at a xilonen does not bring enough enjoyment to spend 75/150 wishes on her her
does it mean enjoy their mechanical gameplay because while i do love my kimchi, i find the whole circles around the enemy gameplay and all the cancels and walk combos extremely annoying to do
does it mean enjoy their teams gameplay something like national used to be very strong but you had to be very careful with your rotations and gouba swirls and xinqiu application at the right time
does it mean looking at the character move around, i have no doubt that mavuika is really fun, learning melt combos and cancles and everything but i hate looking at that bike
there are many things to enjoy in this game. i dont like how the community is so divided nowdays especially after nod krai in "meta" players and non meta players and i think that both sides are a bit toxic. on one side you have people being very annoying telling you how your main is washed and on the other you have people getting into legit tantrums because they were told that sucrose is better than kazuha for flins (because kazuha doesnt buff flins you might aswell use jean)
both sides, if there even are sides, have a way to play the game and find it offensive that the other side isnt playing the way they are playing

I'm not someone who pulls only for meta, but I imagine it's one of two options:
A:
1. Pick a fav who is meta.
2. Pull their Premium team.
3. Proceed to use that character everywhere you want, up to Dire bosses that "shill" them, maybe even past that.
4. Have fun.
5. Pick another fav who is now in the new meta.
B:
1. Decide you want to clear every game mode and don't care about characters.
2. Pull as many meta teams as possible, starting with THE meta team for that patch.
3. Accomplish step1.
4. Ignore people who decided that fun is only achievable if you have a deep connection with this imaginary entity.
5. Have fun.

I pull for characters I like, and if they are meta that's just a plus. Because I skipped some banners I also pull for some weapons, and these days most 5 stars are strong even if you don't pull for their weapons, and are rather strong if you pull for their weapons.
