millions of people so many would be doing stupid things
have characters built straight up wrong then complain that game is hard when their team is 4 on field dps at awful stats so they keep it low

Endgame rewards per month are 1000 primogems from theater, 800 abyss, 330~ from Stygian onslaught (although you can get a friend to destroy it for you but am counting it anyway)
It’s 13-14 pulls per month, if you are up for the grind and not being able to play new characters right out of the box then sure, level up your world.
A year of playing endgame content nets you with 160~ pulls, that is 1-2 limited 5 stars per year from endgame.
But some people don’t have the time or don’t care about endgame content, they play for the story or the exploration.
In the end it’s about what they enjoy.

Raising world level allows you to build characters faster and more efficiently, so it’s actually easier in the long run.

If wiping out enemy hordes effortlessly in the open world is fun for you, then you can actually enjoy the same power trip by keeping your WL low, without whaling.
That is if endgame content doesn't interest you, which for many players, that's exactly the case. Oh, and it lets you keep the grind to a minimum.

You said it! I always increased the world level ,even if i didn't have good characters. I got my ass whooped so bad in Inazuma ,but it was fun ,it was challenging so i kept on going . I am now AR60 ,everything is sooo easy ,i wish i could increase the world level but for now i'm waiting 😁

I have been playing from Day 1 and am still WL6. There should definitely be no problem to play on WL9 if I compare it with endgame modes like Abyss or SO. So why do I stay on WL6 and "waste" so many drops?
For me the obvious reason is, that Genshin is a game you can recommend to people who are open to playing games but are not "gamers". Breezing through AR at the beginning is fast even for them, but once they get to AR40-45 they hit the artifact wall. Just being able to lower my WL to 5 and let them into my world with all domains unlocked is a huge benefit and I think most non-casual players can't imagine how much difference that does in regards of motivation to "grind" artifacts. There are quite a lot of IRL friends who I still coop with and stayed just because of this convenience.
This far outweighs the mats that I "lose" from not going WL9 for me. After all these years I can't ever remember having trouble getting mats, it simply took a little bit longer. Most recent example is Columbina signature wepon ascension mats. Since thos "Deep Shadow" mats were new and I had to freshly farm them from patch day on, it probably took me one reset aka one day longer to get the mats to get her weapon to 90. But yeah, like to me waiting one more day is really negligible.
