1. Why would they ever need a redemption arc? We don't really know the guy
2. What if Paimon is Phanes?

She is most likely Phanes’s emotions, And I say redemption arc because of how ruthless he was while ruling teyvat, even though they had reasons behind those actions, it doesn’t take away from the pain and suffering they caused

Phanes is the ships AI, there's no emotion to be separated from.
And Paimon is a new existence, while Phanes ruthlessness was ages ago.
The_Cheeseman832026-01-28 13:24
We can’t be certain that Phanes has even done anything that would require redemption.
Plus-Theme-32832026-01-28 13:31
I don't think he's the time of guy who well seek redemption for anything, and even if we have no idea
Mtebalanazy2026-01-28 13:39
Yeah but imagine if he had paimon’s emotions and memories, maybe our journey will gives him a new prospective on humanity

No. Nothing ever hints at Phanes wanting to be, or needing "redemption".
Even if he takes extreme actions, he knows what he's doing and has actually done a pretty good job at keeping Tevyat safe until his coma 500 years ago.
Nothing he does stems from pure malicious intent, but just like an AI would do, a "reasonable" action that has the most desirable outcome.
Mtebalanazy2026-01-28 17:55
Yes, it is the most reasonable, the Phanes is correct in his actions, but at the same time they’re devoid of empathy, and that’s why he separated himself from paimon, having emotions would stop him from doing what must be done
I’m saying “redemption” as in for the characters and the audience, at least make him explain why his punishments are soo absolute, I understand his nailing of human civilisation, but surely keeping some angels around would be a good idea
OutsideIntropid17642026-01-28 17:56
Even in that case, he would not require "redemption". We as the audience are already aware that most of Phanes' actions are to ensure that humanity works stable and safely, even if the actions to ensure them are heavy.
There's no need for "redemption" if the character has no moral failure going for them.
Mtebalanazy2026-01-28 17:58
Yeah but with all the agenda agents Phanes that the game puts out like the latest zibai trailer they are skewing public opinion
OutsideIntropid17642026-01-28 17:59
That's more of a matter of comprehension.
As long as this background lore will be put forward in AQs, the goalposts will shift as well.
The only reason for the Agenda posting is the lack of information about the relevant parties.
