The seven sovereigns and their king, dragon king Nibelung, were created with teyvat itself
When Nibelung travelled outside of teyvat, the heavenly principles invaded teyvat and defeated the seven sovereigns and took their authority over the world to create a new order for humanity. Before Nibelung left he created the three moon sisters according to their moons to govern in his place.
When the heavenly principles won she created humans and the new rule, however when Nebulong returned (6000 years ago) he used the forbidden power (abyssal power) to re power the dragons and fight against the heavily principles to re-claim their world (war of vengeance or also known as War of funerary flame) where the moon sisters did not know if to stay neutral or support nebulong.
Nebulong saw it as a kind of betrayal and trapped them in the space-time place where they remained. Nebulong and the dragons were defeated, while he did use the moons as weapons. After the war two moons were destroyed and one flung outside of the fake sky. As the sisters were in the domain they stayed intact, however once columbina freed them after telling their fate they gave the authority of the three moons to her, making her the trilune moon goddess , so the power does not get abused. This meant the three moon goddesses were to die after leaving that place, however this was too painful for sonnet as she was also afraid of dying, as their body slowly disappeared painfully, she fused herself with the abyss to try and prolong her life which was known as the crimson moon, however she stayed in constant pain and was freed 6000 years after by columbina (when we went to retrieve the crimson moon). She showed gratitude by saying “hopo-“ before disappearing and dying for good once she was cleansed of the abyss. After that war the heavenly principles was heavily damaged and used the power of the defeated sovereigns (authority of the elements)to maintain control. This was used to create the seven divine seats (and the gnosis) to rule over teyvat in her place, she then held a battle between the multiple gods at that time in teyvat to fight for the seats in each nation (as Ei and makoto were twins they counted as one). The winners emerged as the archons that we know today and the ones that may have survived but lost were fled outside the protection of the seven (dark sea). This was known as the archon war!

Nope. Ei has always been stronger than makoto, even when makoto was the archon. Ei was the one who fought and won the archon war for makoto.

Makoto and Ei are both god of eternity.
Makoto never fought in any battles and she was the god of eternity, these are things you will learn if you have paid attention to shogun's story quest act 2.

They've been weirdly hands-off about Sumeru in other ways, as well. Like, they didn't lift a finger when Deshret brought the Abyss to his civilization. He and Rukkhadevata had to clean up that mess by themselves.
