Fatui, or more than just the title?
The more content gets released, I can only notice one thing:
They are a bunch of wronged people.
All of them had their motives to join.
All of them had their dreams at some point.
All of them had their special character features.
As an old player, (dec 2020 type of old), I cannot just wrap my head around everything that we, as traveller, have been through.
How many stories we have witnessed. How many friends we made along the way. How many villains turned out to be not as simple as we thought at first.
No matter how terrible, how awkward or how boring, Genshin will forever remain a part of my personality. The effect it had on me is unbelievable. Maybe unbearable, at times.
Anyway, thanks for reading through. Just had to take things off my chest.
Have a nice day!
P.s. written after being heavily affected by the last Archon quest, of whatever version it is right now.

You actually nailed something I think is **strongly** intended by the storywriters at MiHoYo: the Fatui are just people, like you, like me, like the Traveler (*theoretically, maybe not*), and so on. They have their own motivations for serving the Tsaritsa in the same way the Tenryou samurai have their reasons for serving the Shogun or the Akademiya have their reasons for not wanting to acknowledge Lesser Lord Kusanali.
At the end of the day, it's extremely important to realize that almost *every* character and NPC in Genshin has motivations, desires, ambitions, and a life that's being lived external to our experiences. Sure, we might not be able to directly affect that life, and many times we're not fortunate enough to get to experience the changes they undergo. But no matter what, they're still there.
I actually am lucky; since I'm marginally talented at spotting writing tropes and methods, I began suspecting the Fatui weren't all the villains they were being hyped up to be about midway through Liyue. I mean, imagine how megalomaniacal you'd have to be (as Childe) to summon an ancient god to wipe out a harbor *exclusively* for the enjoyment of it. Now we know there's more to his motivations than that, but at the time he gave no such impression, and it really made it jarring when he tried to buddy up to us afterwards. But why would an enemy try to snuggle so close... unless they were trying to 1) keep tabs on us or, more likely, 2) become allies because our goals were more closely aligned than we knew at the time?
At the end of the day, the Fatui are spectacularly written, down to the individual seemingly-unimportant NPCs. I'm excited to write about them and delve even deeper into their lore. :)
Thanks for reading through my comment, your post was a refreshing breath of story-focused air to read. :)
