the intended way to experience the story
So ive been playing since late 2020 and i love lore but i thought for the longest time that the whole story will be in the dainslef interludes and archon quests so i avoided watching any lore explained videos on top of being too lazy to read world/side quests because there was no voicing in them
I caved tho and watched a 46 minute vid and i feel like they would have never talked about all that stuff in the main quests i feel like i missed out on a lot considering i can barely digest the video but then again, i want to experience the lore bombs in game instead of a random person on yt with a script but unsure since so far, theyve only been giving bits and pieces of the full story
I guess im 5 years too late to ask but, what do yall think is the best or intended way to know what is going on and what happened in past events with the primordial one and the 4 shades and whatnot

The intended way is to do the main quest and world quests and hope you don't forget anything. Take it easy and just discuss it with people online so you can learn what you missed. Even Lore youtubers need to compile everything together as Genshin lore is extensive.
It is late. But better late than never I suppose.
You probably don’t read in-game books, letters, etc.
You don’t like watching YouTube summation videos.
But you came to REDDIT (of all places) to ask “where can I find the lore?”
Example before 3.0 there was a blurb about Seelie being attracted to humans, but human contact made them loose intelligence and lead adventurers to treasure.
During 3.0 I really thought the Seelie were Lilpour’s children.
During 5.0 they were canonized as something else that I am leaving vague to prevent spoilers.
So I am happy with a video. That I can pause, and cross reference and rewind.
For players who are not up to date and has ton of backlog of quests to complete, or do not intend to finish a quest line, experience will always be compromised. Spoilers are everywhere.
Mihoyo doesn't give a damn about what order you experience things, or even if you actually experience all the lore.
If they did, they wouldn't have put the lore and story behind at least 3 characters behind limited time quests - all three of which, hilariously enough, have become main quest relevant, and they wouldn't offer you quick starts that let you skip ahead.
Following world quests means you will be following the history of locations, and the lore of certain areas as well as overall world lore about Teyvat. This would be like reading the big book of Westmarch you will have a much deeper understanding of all the plot points and the characters especially the ones with long life spans.
Reading the in game books and texts, artefact/weapon/item descriptions this will give you the fullest understanding of the world, its history and many note worthy characters and their deeds. This is the equivalent of reading the Silmarillion.
Genshin took inspiration for its world building from FromSoft games like Darksouls and Bloodborne. where the games have extremely simple plots like "ring the two bells" "reach Anor Londo" "collect lord souls" "collect 2 great runes" "become Elden lord"
And for any 'casual' or 'normal' player the bosses will just be random big bad enemies that stand in your way with little to no story as to why they are there, since all their lore and stories are hidden in item descriptions and never very explicitly explained or detailed in the actual story or cutscenes.
Like Malenia cutscene and dialog makes almost 0 sense and is just a "wow so cool" scene, unless the player knows about Miquella, the scarlet rot, Mohg and the story behind the Haligtree.
Basically comes down to a simple story presentation choice, you don't want to bombard players that don't care much about lore with all the in depth game lore (Varka telling Nico to 'shush' cause he doesn't care)
But you also want the basic lore to be accessible for the people that do want it, and you get it in the form of side quests and world quests.
Then you also want in depth deep lore available to those players that really want to go that deep. while also making sure it is not intrusive for all the players that couldn't give a F about it. Solution is put it in item descriptions and books that interested players can go out of their way to find and read.
