why is this behaviour normalised???

for context this person joined my world the day before with a girl’s name and lanyan pfp, so i assumed they were a girl (obviously dumb to do so in hindsight but i digress)

we were exploring sumeru together and they were super chill! i thought wow that’s great to have made a new friend

but then the day after they changed their layout entirely and then messaged me out of the blue with the messages in the picture so i blocked and reported

the thing is this isn’t even the first time!! so many people would join and ask similar things it’s just so insane..

why is this so common?? seriously i don’t get it, it’s so annoying i just want to chill and make nice friends 😭😭

The general scientific consensus last time I checked was that people are absolute shitheads unless properly civilized and have developed a moral compass.

Tip: Change your name to something that doesn't end with "ie" or "ia" and try to hide the fact that you are a female. It won't stop but it will diminish significantly.

This game has so many different age ranges including people who aren't even in their teen years. With so many different age demographics you're bound to encounter some weird ones or people who want something different out of each interaction and person they meet

Its best to just filter these ones out one person at a time if your goal is to make friends on Genshin. Not something I would try to do in the game but if that is your goal then people like that are just what comes with it unfortunately

Because it’s a weird thing to just randomly ask someone on the game out no where. We doing coop to farm artifacts, I don’t need to be seeing you asking personal questions like that.

If these two people were already friends for like months or something, I could see asking some questions like that, but “hey what’s your age?” Isn’t a good conversation starter to a random person you don’t know.

The guy looking for his wife on Genshin Impact is very weird stuff. I’m not sure if the E begging players or looking for bf/gf players are the worst now.

Yes, it's weird for sure. But it ain't "wrong" to do.

Personally I think it's good to know the age of the people you play with. Especially in a game like this that has a massive age range. It helps you know what kind of topics and humour are acceptable.

At least he was up front about his intentions. But yeah the whole "looking for a wife" is just kinda odd and frankly dumb thing to say lol. People react pretty negatively to that kind of stuff so it's a bad way to get to know someone.

No doubt there's creeps on the net and I've had plenty of strange encounters (shout-out to FF14 and it's stalking epidemic) but this is about as spicy as a buillon cube.

It’s not nearly as creepy, but I had to deal with my first troll in Miliastra Wonderland a few days ago; they were spamming certain h and n words in the group chat and intentionally did nothing when it was their turn to lead the round. When I warned them that I sent a report, they simply played dumb by claiming they didn’t understand the game. That still doesn’t explain the immature slurs you’re trying to type in, buddy! 😓

I'm probably stepping on a land mine here; but is it really that strange? I mean it's not like you told him you were a 12y/o and he suddenly turned weird.

I'm old enough to have live through the original ICQ and MSN craze, and there were people looking for serious relationships on those platforms. I remember that at the time, I thought the whole thing was stupid, unsafe, and a waste of time, but 2 decades on, I know people who actually met each other on those platforms and are now happily married with families.

So isn't this just the same deal but for the 2020s?

Sure there are kids here, and people intentionally fishing for that stuff deserve to burn in hell. But last I checked, the average Genshin player age was actually surprisingly high, and there are enough Genshin players to fill a decent sized european country. So for a normal person looking for a relationship with someone that has similar interest and hobbies, is it that odd that they try to interact like this in-game?
