With how much Paimon freaked out in the Luna IV story, how do you think it might go if she was put in the Traveler's position? (spoilers)
When Dottore abducts the Traveler, we once against see Paimon completely freaking out and bawling. However, I have to wonder what would happen if Paimon were the one to get abducted at some point. I can't imagine the Traveler bawling over it, but being downright out for the blood of whoever took her.
It's frankly something I'm anticipating at some point in the future. Some villain or such party is eventually going to go with the logic that targeting the Traveler themselves is a bad idea, but their fairy companion? Easy target. And by holding Paimon hostage, the Traveler is put into a very tough spot.

the traveller cares about teyvat and it's inhabitants, they've literally put their life on the line multiple times for the sake of helping/saving others in both archon quests and world quests and the traveller generally only uses lethal force against those who try to harm them and try to help anyone who hasn't actually done anything to them, the traveller even helps out multiple fatui in the chasm because they didn't try to harm them, the traveller literally saw how badly the vision hunt decree affected people in inazuma and decided to help out how did you come to the conclusion that they don't care about teyvat, they don't know all the lore but they clearly care about the world as seen by their actions.
also paimon doesn't know the traveller's true name, the traveller told the abyss sibling "You're the only one in this world who calls me that" in bedtime story when their true name is spoken of and the traveller doesn't really go out of their way to hide their identity as a descender either as far as i remember? they won't actively bring it up for no reason but if them being a descender can be helpful thet do use it like in the case of the 5.3 limited event where they being a descender aren't affected by fetor as descenders so they use that to help hu tao not die.
after the traveller saw what happened to those people they decided to help out becayse they care about the world around them, do you even know what lore you're talking about.
the traveller struggles a lot, he couldn't escape the night kingdom with everyone in act 2 of natlan without mavuika's help(he also willingly went there save kachina btw), he was literally just fodder against the narwhal and neuvillette was basically the only reason the traveller even survived that fight, in sumeru against scaramouche the traveller could only win with literally the entirety of sumeru helping him formulate a plan and also the battle experience of 69 fights, in inazuma he couldn't stand against the shogun are the hopes and dreams of inazuma literally just gave bro enough power to stand against and change her mind, in liyue to defeat osial and beisht all the traveller does was stall for some time before ninguang nuked everything with the jade chamber.
Rerir was a monster too, they barely survive every rerir encounter and they literally had to channel all their power into columbina at which point she could stand up against rerir for like a minute, dottore is a equally terrifying opponent too they only beat him becuase columbina was wielding a power equal to his own.
bedtime story wasn't even the natlan sibling quest it was the fucking 4.x cycle quest and it took place in sumeru and i already said nobody knows the traveller's real name, what they do know though is that the traveller isn't from this world(the idea of saving hu tao wasn't even the traveller's it was zhongli's), many people knew that before nod krai too
"**(Traveler):** I don't know why
**(Traveler):** But the way you're talking...
**(Traveler):** It just doesn't sound like you at all
**(Traveler):** (Lumine/Aether)...
**(Traveler):** This whole thing
**(Traveler):** Your plan...
**(Traveler):** What does it have to do with us?
**(Traveler's Sibling):** All along...
**(Traveler's Sibling):** It's only ever been about us
**(Traveler's Sibling):** Goodbye
**(Traveler's Sibling):** (Aether/Lumine)
**(Traveler's Sibling):** We will begin anew...
**(Traveler's Sibling):** At the end of your journey"
this was specifically in regards to the sibling's plan to remake khaenri'ah not in general with tyevat
Dottore saying that is just him insinuating that because he‘s a fucking psychopath and cannot comprehend a god-like being like Traveler caring that much for other people he deems "beneath“ him. If the Traveler did not give a damn about Teyvat they wouldn’t risk their neck over and over again to save everyone, to shoulder the biggest burdens so nobody else has to.
The Nod-Krai quest directly points out Varka‘s surprise in Traveler insisting on fighting Rerir alone with Nefer, while everybody else stays back.
And Luna 4 isn’t contradicting anything. The story has long established that the Traveler cares about Teyvat, because despite their goal they‘re still a selfless person.
Idk where you see Traveler not giving a shit about Teyvat except a single time in Inazuma. But otherwise they still deeply care about the friends they‘ve made.
If the Traveler "didn't care" about Teyvat like you said, 80% of the main story wouldn't happen; the Traveler would just be like the start of the Inazuma arc and go "actually, I don't care" and keep going to the next region searching for their sibling.
The same applies for Traveler caring about Paimon, they treat them like their younger sibling, they canonically spend every day with each other, and are best friends. \*If\* Paimon would get kidnapped like Traveler did in Luna4, Traveler would go above and beyond to rescue her.
Maybe if you had actual examples that prove your point that Traveler doesn't care about Teyvat, I'd entertain the idea, but all you're saying is "Read everything, because I'm right and Hoyo changed the lore!!!!". Yeah nobody is going to believe you or take you seriously.
But, that idea was blown over after a while for unknow reasons and never came up again.
Paimon or the abyss twin.
Personally I'd pick paimon, she's my true homie.
If there's any character I see who would use Paimon as a hostage, it'd either be Pierro or the Tsaritsa. Maybe the Tsaritsa could do it as a way to force the Traveler to retrieve the Pyro Gnosis, though that'd be a very bad way to do it. Pierro might do it if he mistakes Paimon for being Asmoday (whether or not she actually is).
Its pretty weird that she has yet to become a target when she is near the traveler wherever he goes. Or that nobody addresses from where she came.
That being said, neither of those options change the part where anyone trying to grab her has to dodge a pissed-off Traveler while they wait for something to bring her out of hammerspace, so I’d still say it’s impossible to use her as leverage; anyone able to do so has already proven they can take the Traveler in a fight.
As long as his powers are sealed, there will never be a need to kidnap Paimon because they can kidnap him directly.
And once he gains his Descender powers, he should theoretically become a being similar to PO or Nibelung, practically impossible to defeat. xD
>**Paimon:** Hey, do that again! You know, that thing!
**(Traveler):** Which one?
**Paimon:** The one where you make your weapon disappear with a swish, and then, fwoosh — you make it appear behind your back again!
**(Traveler):** Oh, that(?/.) Haven't you seen that a ton already?
**Paimon:** But Paimon hasn't figured out how you do it yet. Could you explain it?
**(Traveler):** Well, can you explain how you suddenly appear in front of me, and then disappear just as suddenly?
**Paimon:** Uh... well... Paimon seems to have always been able to do this. But Paimon doesn't know how...
**(Traveler):** Precisely. I believe that the art of putting my weapon away follows the same principle.
**(Traveler):** Maybe it's this similarity that makes us such good friends(?/.)
of course this depends if paimon is just a goubified version of just part of the shade of space
