Realistically, Do We Think Past Events Will Ever Be Playable?
What it says on the tin. I’m honestly loosing my mind with how important limited timed quests are to the main story. I simply don’t believe that there’s no way to make past events compatible with the current game. While I understand the fomo method in theory, Hoyoverse is actively making the quality of their game suffer. I missed Mini Durin’s summer event because my old laptop couldn’t handle Genshin anymore. By the time I could afford a new, better one, the summer event was over. Life happens, people get busy, punishing players for not logging in every single day is crazy to me. You can reward them for their constant log ins, but don’t punish them. I stopped playing Genshin for a while because I felt so stressed about missing content that it started to affect my everyday life. But taking a break meant that I missed even more important events. I just feel like there’s no hope anymore for the casual player. Anyone in the know have any insight as to whether or not they’ll make past events playable in the future?

All I know is that we have a ton of Simulanka assets in Miliastra Wonderland and they brought some back in Durin's Story Quest, so it's feasible that it probably will be added eventually.
Either way, it is a given that they have the old builds and maps and stuff backed up, though the code likely needs some updating to recent builds. Which can be anywhere between fairly straightforward and “tearing-your-hair-out” frustrating depending on their development practices.
It would probably also need to come with some system to download necessary game files on demand from within the game, as well as delete them in a more fine-grained manner than the current “delete old quest data” (or whatever it is called) button. As much as I do not mind a 250 GB game, this is not something that everyone would be ok with, even on pc.
Also content is still content.
Also, much of their budgeting is likely rather inflexible. Character artists and mechanics designers aren’t going to be very useful for implementing this system, but they need to keep them employed, which means they can’t easily reallocate budget away from their current content pipeline. There’s only so many backend programmers to do this kind of work, and they probably have a priority list a mile long. Even if HoYo really would like to make this happen, there are probably just a bunch of other features that are higher priority.
It‘s not an "if“ but a „how and when“.
Genshin has a TON of past major events, so Hoyo has definitely struggled with figuring out a good medium to allow people to play past events without further bloating the game‘s size to the skies.
if you notice from 5.x, they've been somewhat experimentin on making special area for quests where they transformed the map, like when the war in Natlan they didn't really used the actual map, just an instanced based map. and i think this is one of the key to implement bringing back past events.
At the very least, I think Simulanka has the best chance to become permanent considering how relevant it is to the main story and to multiple characters. GAA as well since that's when we first meet Alice
As for previous events, like Lantern Rite and the flag ship events, those are less likely to get reruns but are in the realm of possibility if the content above get added in permanently
Basically just reintroduce old events as they reference old events in the main story
Love how Star Rail does it. Where if you miss a big event, you won’t earn the limited time prizes, but you don’t lose lore either.
And I know people mention storage, but other huge games exist. Might be time for devs to make encoding for smaller file sizes a priority too.
Proposed solutions (such as making them downloadable) are not realistic for this game.
Man I just really wanna go back to Simulanka... Such a beautiful place...
