One of the most common complaints I see about Genshin's storytelling is how cliche it's becoming, 'the power of friendship', every characters gets a redemption story, all that. Yet I've never seen a character more hated than Dottore, who is actively challenging the status quo by being a terrible person, who doesn't really have a sympathetic reason for the awful things he does besides his own self interest.

Ever since Sumeru, I was immediately drawn in by his first cutscene appearance, it felt intimidating and scary, like a harbinger introduction should feel. I feel like people really started realizing/liking his character more with this recent patch, because it really called out some big differences in how certain harbingers are portrayed. Arlecchino and Wanderer both had intimidating introductions, but were ultimately pushed to be more morally grey characters to push the playable agenda. I do feel like Wanderers was handled better, since we got to see his evolution over multiple versions, but I always hated how we never got to touch on the fact that Arlecchino is raising child soldiers. After her story quest, we feel almost TOO buddy buddy with her. She's done TERRIBLE things to children as well, we know that right? It just feels like the Traveler and most of the fandom forgot. I'm not saying this is a stain upon her character, it's what makes her interesting. Nothings more boring than someone being scrubbed clean.

I saw a lot of people online talking about how they appreciated Dottore's consistency in this recent patch. Even in his attempts to 'woo' the Traveler, he still held a strong sense of character, self, ideology, etc. He didn't become a completely different, cleaner character, just because he was faced with the Traveler's goodness and fairness aura. Started a villain, stayed a villain, that's so rare to see in Genshin, it automatically makes his character so compelling.

So genuinely, why do people seem to dislike him SO much? Not even in the, 'he's a villain, we're supposed to dislike him' way, but the fierce, 'remove him from the game' kinda hate. It's gotten so bad that when I've seen fans of his character posting online, they just get flooded with terrible hate comments. Like he's a bunch of pixels you guys...

It's fine if you don't like Dottore, he's not really there to be a fan favorite husbando, but the way people get so heated and mad over one of the best plot movers in the entire game really baffles me. He's a good character for the plot/story, and extremely compelling to watch in action. That's more than enough reason for a person to like him, yet people in the fandom get SO mad when a person is a fan.

Just curious to see why people are so adamant on hating this character SO much. You have to at least admit he moves the story in the most entertaining way, right?
