this actually explains why kaeya is called the cavalry captain without any cavalry, he just chose the title when varka asked
i thought this scene was funny and then had an epiphany about the knights

I like this explanation haha
AlexKeal2026-01-29 23:46
If I'm not mistaken isn't he referring to the "Knight" titles instead of the organizational titles. For example: Eula's "Spindrift Knight" title as opposed to her actual organizational title being the reconnaissance company captain that actually is functional because of the fact that she does lead the reconnaissance company.
Besides it's just funnier to think Varka trolled Kaeya by promoting him to cavalry captain just to bring all the cavalry with him to Nodkrai making the title effectively useless until Varka brings them back to Mondstadt.
Visrhen2026-01-30 01:22
I actually thought the same thing. Like Varka is the "Knight of Boreas", Jean, "Dandelion Knight", Klee, "Sparknight". Not all knights have this kind of title tho. And it's likely given by the other knights around them, something more or less similar to a callsign.
Also, I had an assumption that the only reason Kaeya is the Cavalry Captain was so he could replace Diluc, since he was the Cavalry Captain before Kaeya, I think the decision was out of guilt, or the KoF only had Kaeya as the closest option.
Yuukiko_2026-01-30 01:31
Knight of Boreas and Dandelion Knight(and Lionfang Knight) are linked to two of the four winds though
rorschach_blots2026-01-30 02:19
Those belong/are given to the heads of the organisation though - so Varka (Boreas) and Jean (Dandelion). It doesn't have to be both at the same time, it could just be one Dandelion Knight or just one Boreas Knight depending on circumstances.
Visrhen2026-01-30 02:27
Like I don't know that lmao, I'm just saying that the KoF has a tradition of giving out titles of merit to exceptional knights. And I'm assuming the name depends on what the knights would call them, or either it's chosen by the GM. Varka's may be a more special type of title tho, since it's literally passed down to one GM to another. With Varka's offer to Durin he's probably just having fun with it seeing as Klee is knighted during Varka's time as GM, even tho she's def less meritorious than Kaeya who doesn't have a title.
SectorApprehensive582026-01-30 09:21
Holup. Why isn't varka Boreas Knight instead? He's breaking too much tradition!
CinnabarSteam2026-01-30 09:07
Less trolling and more a convenient excuse for Kaeya to do other work by freeing him from Cavalry Captain responsibilities. Can't exactly appoint your covert intelligence expert to the public office of Spy Master.
poopdoot2026-01-30 00:26
Kaeya is not the cavalry knight, “Calvary Captain” is his position. His knight title is unknown (afaik) but it’s like how Jean is the Dandelion Knight and Klee is the Spark Knight, and like other commenter said Eula is the Spindrift Knight
Desperate_Yellow_4982026-01-30 08:49
Yes, and Diluc was a former cavalry captain too..
Position_Waste2026-01-30 08:56
Is it frostwind knight? I remember reading something about frostwind on his character sheet
Serpentarrius2026-01-30 09:58
Frostwind Swordsman! Although that is a translation...
TrueSeaworthiness7032026-01-30 19:28
So a small miss translation could have changed knight to swordsman
Lunamkardas2026-01-30 00:35
..................................................so that begs the question. How drunk was he and who was the horse?
mrzevk2026-01-30 00:56
Zibai
Tancr3d_2026-01-30 02:07
there are no horses, only *domesticsted hilichurls*
Luna_MariaHawke2026-01-30 08:07
Yes.
Both.
Sadimal2026-01-30 00:47
Cavalry Captain is Kaeya's rank.
In the Knights, you have your rank and then a title. Durin and Varka are talking about titles.
Or keep her unemployed. We don't want to stress her out too much
Gerasquare2026-01-30 03:07
I’m not sure if it’s her official job, but I recall Klee being referred as Demolition Expert or something like that during a Chasm quest
_1Nothing2026-01-30 22:04
I mean no one's better at demolishing things than her...
AceWissle2026-01-30 09:30
I legit wonder what Jean's RANK was before she became Acting Grandmaster when Varka left
Secretary of the Grandmaster?
Neutral_Memer2026-01-30 09:59
She would be the Master of the Knights of Favonius as Varka's second-in-command, lining up with information from the Prologue and with Mika's voiceline about Jean - in short, only a Master can be appointed as an Acting Grand Master whenever the Grandmaster proper is unavailable or in any other way indisposed.
AceWissle2026-01-30 14:45
Good to know, ty
DisulficAcid2026-01-30 00:59
Obligatory comment about how kaeya is the spy master and you don’t call the spy master the spy master so they gave him a generic title as cover
expensive-toes2026-01-30 01:29
can you explain more? i can’t tell if i forgot some lore or if this is just a joke 😭
DisulficAcid2026-01-30 01:41
His title has never been explained in game, it’s just a theory I saw someone say to a similar post and it made sense to me, Kaeya is always doing the behind the scenes shady spy work so naturally he would have a cover title when people question what it is he does.
expensive-toes2026-01-30 02:12
ooo i like that theory!
rorschach_blots2026-01-30 02:26
Would probably explain how Diluc was able to act so efficiently with an underground network. And why the two of them always seem to be *implied* to be working together. Diluc was Cavalry Captain prior to leaving the order, so Kaeya taking up the same title would lend well to the "brothers working for revenge" story.
Puri5V2026-01-30 01:53
If he knights Durin before Noelle words will be had.
S-Ruro2026-01-30 03:29
Hmm... "Durin, Dragon Knight of the Knights of Favonius" sounds pretty good.
master089652026-01-30 04:11
I don't remember where i read it but there is a theory that calvary captain is kaeya's cover title,his actual job was spy related things(like what we saw him actually do).
Confident_River_35832026-01-30 07:13
This makes so much sense! Kaeya just claiming the title perfectly fits his personality. Classic him, and honestly, it’s hilarious when you think about it.
slowdruh2026-01-30 08:45
Unfriendly reminder that Noelle still hasn't been knighted.
PESSSSTILENCE2026-01-30 17:19
to be fair i think if varka met her, he would absolutely knight her
slowdruh2026-01-30 23:02
I'm gonna be very happy to not have put a single freemo in his banner if they meet and he doesn't.

* Eula
* Rank: Captain of the 4th Company: Reconnaissance
* Title: Spindrift Knight
* Klee
* Rank: ???
* Title: Spark Knight
Secretary of the Grandmaster?
