What's up with people already saying Varka is horrible when he isn't even released yet

Please enlighten me about this community. Normally I don't trust leaks one bit, but I've been seeing A LOT of comments and posts on any social media saying Varka is horrible, that he is ruined, unplayable, etc.

But Varka is still far from being released? I understand these comments come from leakers calculations and stuff but... is that really enough to make a final conclusion that Varka is terrible? Again literally no one has played him, and yet they're acting as if they've played him forever.

Is this how the leakers community works?

People like to say TCs dont know anything but they have ample info and can know how good someone will be in theory. If anything theyll be worse than they actually think (due to sheet numbers not being the same as in practice). So yes right now Varka looks bad and barring changes he will be quite underwhelming

There is a beta for new characters the patch before they release. It has a version of the character that is playable for the beta testers. So anyone following leaks knows what the character's kit is like in the current version of the beta. The beta for Varka is nearly over and he is not in a great position. He's still good but not as OP as most other recent characters.

However beta numbers can change a lot, so don't take the current numbers as his final numbers. Also he is likely missing out his dedicated support that is coming later.

i don't know the exact number of the top of my head, but from what i've seen, yes it's around 70k-80k for lunar wheelchair compared to not using either of them

i'm not even doom posting about varka, he is just factually not doing very good numbers wise in comparison to the other characters that have been releasing in the last year of the game's life. that was the same case with dehya mind you

so, yes. in the context of when both characters came out, compared to the other characters around their respective times, they are not very good in terms of doing damage

varka does however have the benefit of his kit not being at complete odds with itself, and actually functions coherently, unlike dehya's

I rarely follow leaks and have no idea how good or bad Varka is. But let's think this way: is Neuvillette bad? Of course not. But if a new character in version 6.4 only has similar dps as Neuvillette against single target but lack the other utilities of Neuvillette have (like aoe, self healing, unlimited interrupt resistance of C1), I would say this new character is not great when compared to other new Nod Krai characters. Neuvillette was good in 4.1, but not great in 6.4. I don't believe he is as bad as Dehya anyway.

There are beta testing server and the testers have used unreleased characters and know their kits and numbers. Through they have signed the NDA, a few of them may post the information secretly in private channels, and it may hard to catch such leakers. That is how leaks work.

Currently, yes, he’s middling. But that can change in the beta prior to release. But currently we have ample information to say that in his current state he’s meh. We have extensive theorycrafting, calculations, and rotations tests done to confirm this.

He's not horrible, but he will be released amidst all nodkrai dps who has significantly higher dps than him, even Natlan dps are higher dps. Leakers also has beta testers, hence why we got the calculation and stuff.

Just take it with bunch of salts and ignore what people's talking about him before official release. Anything can change, even in patch day. Never judge the leakers before you test it yourself. If you can't handle it, just stay away and avoid the leaks.

Horrible? I wouldn't say that. He's in line with most previous characters.

but that's the thing. his current strength is more Fontaine level maybe early Natlan around Chasca/Kinich. Not late Natlan and Nod Krai. he's pretty far behind Skirk, Varesa, Flins, Mavuika, Nefer, and Zibai. So his current strength just feels outdated compared to what we recently got.

Theorycrafters in beta are aware that any character can be changed anytime for better or worse until release, so they always advertise this fact in their content. They're not trying to spread lies. But evaluations need to be done according to the current state of the character and our knowledge of their rotations and combos. Of course, these are calculations only for a specific beta version of that character. All updates are immediately incorporated for changes and reevaluations.

Btw, theorycrafting in GI is usually trustworthy, especially when multiple sources arrive to the same conclusion. This doesn't mean a character is "trash" since you don't need to care about meta, but TCs are not wrong about their damage output (most of the time). Other stuff are taken into consideration too to rate a character beyond numbers: how easy it is to play the character, how much defensive utility is in their premium teams, how restrictive is the character for teambuilding, how it interacts with enemy mechanics, how well they scale with vertical investment, etc.

Leakers and theorycrafters have access to the exact numbers and multipliers a character has during the beta. Of course, those numbers often change, so theorycrafters usually recalculate the predicted dps every time a character gets buffed/nerfed. These calculations are usually pretty accurate tho - they're based on the available numerical data as well as gameplay footage provided by beta testers.

People saying "it's just doomposting" are coping hard. Sure, there have been a few cases where the TC consensus during a character's beta ended up being worse than the state the character released in, but that's either because the character got buffed right before going live (which TCs obviously can't predict) or because they later received a dedicated support that made them a lot better. Nobody can predict that happening, so when TCs say Varka is bad, they're simply commenting on his current state in the beta, with currently available teams.

Usually when the beta is this far along, characters don't change very much, so it's unlikely that Varka will receive major buffs. The powercreep during Natlan was quite significant - team dps from back in Fontaine went from around \~80k to 120-130k+. And while he is not completely unplayable, releasing him with the power level of Fontaine DPSes is very disappointing for a character that has been hyped up for 5 years.

Beta and leaks
