Best way to go about exploring the content as a new player

just curious how I can enjoy the game most, if I should just go around exploring to discover new things or just stick to the main story line for now. Glad there’s so much content! Been having a lot of fun so far :)

I don’t think there’s really a “best” way to explore. Except the fact that Inazuma is story locked, overworld exploration is mostly disconnected from main story progress. If you’re exploring the things that catch your interest and having fun with it, then I’d say you’re doing a good job of it already,

It’s insane how much content the game has, I’m still in the beginner region area and there’s tons of puzzles and stuff to find still

Yup yup! It’s a HUGE game. New maps every year will do that. And I can’t even imagine how much time I’ve spent exploring by now… XD

I would advise prioritizing progression on the main quest, or at least not neglecting it.
Nearly all of Genshin time-gated events assume you have finished the most recent main quest, so it can be a bit jarring and confusing when a total strange character appear from nowhere and act like your best friend. The game just gives you a small pop up saying who they are and you start second guessing if you have missed a cutscenes or something. Turn out you will (or have) meet them later on in the main quest and have been through hell together.
"Lantern Rite", arguably the biggest in-game event each year is just around the corner. It will most likely feature a large number of Liyue cast and quite a few visitors from other nations, so you will have a taste of that feeling soon.
Another reason is that advancing the main quest also lead you to visit other nations in a natural manner. This is important because a character tend to require material from their region. Let say if you pull Columbina, you won't be able to level her up pass lv40 without feeding her some grass thingy from Nod-krai. Nothing prevent you from teleporting to Nodkrai ahead of time to pick some herb, but I think it's more enjoyable to arrive there as the story lead you.
