I don't know what Op meant by changing the whole concept of gods a concept which we don't know by the way
notthatjaded2026-01-30 14:38
It’s in Traveler’s skin’s lore description. >!Basically implying the ship (or an AI on it) might actually have been functioning as the Heavenly Principles.!<

I mean, we do tho. In the beginning there was one god dragon and 7 dragons with authority over the elements.
God dragon got told the world will be destroyed and went to search for a solution in the abyss after creating 3 moon godesses to guard the world. The heavenly principles came, the moon godesses didn't think of them as evil and worked with them.
God dragon came back, thought the godesses betrayed him and locked them away. Heavenly principles killed god dragon and stripped the elemental dragpns pf their authority and made the gnosi (gnoses? Idk) and gave them tp the archons to rule.
They also created 4 shades to rule over death, life, space and time. This is where we are at the beginning of the story.
Edit: the thing that changed is: heavenly principles don't seem to be a god, but rather an AI instead.

There's no rule that limits what can be a god but how one can be a god. This is the same game with a mushroom as a god
DesModReddit2026-01-30 22:53
Well, a god is just a being that has a certain authority over a concept, not a certain type of being or sth. And the new information that an AI can be a god did change this concept quite drastically, meaning the being attaining those authorities does not have to be living.
Saying there is no concept of gods is wrong, we don't know much, that far I fully am with you here, but we know that gods exist and that they hold significant power over certain domains, wich is in itself already a concept. Certainly an incomplete concept tho, that is true.
A world that has no concept of a god would be ZZZ where there are basically no known gods.
EmbarrassedMeal79932026-01-30 22:57
This is the same hoyoverse with Nous, different game i know but you could say Honkai Star rail has a different setting
DesModReddit2026-01-30 23:01
I mean you are not wrong, genshin is known to be in the same multiverse after all. We basically just have to wait for more information to drop on how the upper workings actually work in genshin, as I said the "concept of gods" is severely incomplete. We may have a similar setup as HSR does, maybe more similar to HI3 or even something completely different, like amphoreus or sth. We may only know once they tell us

I'll be honest, I hate everything about this stupid fucking ship. I wish we had just caught a glimpse of Rerir-sibling and had that been our driving force to get involved. I appreciate how cool it is that they're referring back to cut beta content and working it in, but the ship is just making things so messy and silly. So the siblings came to Teyvat before but their memory was wiped? Why? What purpose does this serve narratively other than to make an already very confusing story even more obtuse?

Genshin loves Mystery Box writing. Inside of every answer is 3 more questions. It just makes more and more rabbit holes, and eventually leads to nothing.
Kamimikoo2026-01-30 13:50
it even puts the question why they wanted to leave without the ship if it was so important to them with the vault in it? so they can just fly through space without the ship then? where would they want to go anyway? lol the whole ship is such a shitty retcon and i hate it
neryben2026-01-30 17:37
>the whole ship is such a shitty retcon
Wow, really? You know so much, that's awesome! Can you please tell how the original story went before the retcon? I'm dying to know.

It's legit pretty fucking clear if you piece together the info. Your traveller didn't know shit and was literally being guided by the Abyss twin for a way to leave the world.

The outfit description gives an idea why.In theory the Ai of the ship had to terraform the planet so that the siblings can live in it. Also they flew around for thousands of years before landing.
Whilyam2026-01-30 13:56
Yeah at this point I'm guessing that we're Phanes or something because we've got this secret previous visit and the whole terraforming thing and the fact that our sibling said we wanted to find a world where the flowers grew so maybe we terraformed Teyvat to make the flowers grow. I just don't see how this aspect improves the story, it just feels like adding bullshit.
EmbarrassedMeal79932026-01-30 14:01
The outfit doesn't describe us as Phanes though. It talks of a pioneer vessel which is being theorised to be Phanes due to similar abilities
Whilyam2026-01-30 14:03
I'm saying that seems like a logical explanation for why we were orbiting thousands of years ago. Sibling got out, did Phanes shit, the ship left without them, they integrated into Teyvat/stopped being a descender, we came back around and then the rest of the preamble happened. IDK, makes sense to me from what we've been shown/know.
EmbarrassedMeal79932026-01-30 14:07
It seems logical but The outfit says the Pioneer vessel was the one with the ability to terraform planets not the siblings. So the sibling might have left the ship after it terraformed Teyvat.
"Reshaping terrain, adjusting the air, rebuilding an ecosystem, these were simple tasks for a pioneer vessel meant to bear the spark of civilization.
A star's position, its distance, or its lifespan might pose a minor challenge, yet even those had solutions."
Whilyam2026-01-30 14:11
Yeah I'm saying we know the abyss sibling woke up first and left the ship. I would not be surprised if the twist reveal was they went down ahead of us and then used the terraforming tech on the ship, either remotely or by flying back up to it, to take over the planet from the moon sisters/the dragons.
EmbarrassedMeal79932026-01-30 14:16
The Heavenly Principles aka Phanes are said to be asleep though and the sibling wants to fight against them. Phanes is also genderless so it can't be just either Aether or Lumine
PSIGifts2026-01-30 18:31
Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hated this concept. Lol I'm no genshin expert but I kept saying that the ship was never a thing when Genshin first came out, and I knew it was a retcon but I wasn't too sure. Now I hate it even more knowing that they just shoehorned it in like it's always been a thing, then took over 30 minutes of my time trying to gaslight me into thinking the ship has always existed
Whilyam2026-01-30 18:45
I honestly wouldn't have had any problem with it if they had made Paimon just as incredulous as the audience would be. All you needed to do was have her say " What the hell do you mean spaceship?" and you could tell me that the traveler hasn't mentioned it because it's so potentially dangerous if people got their hands on it.
But it's so obnoxious that we all treat it as if this is something that we have always known about, when no one has mentioned the word spaceship in the entirety of the game up until the Diredyth quest.
PSIGifts2026-01-30 20:10
Yea, they've refused to just call out the elephant in the room on multiple occasions and it breaks the immersion for me. The ship retcon is obnoxious and lazy storytelling and I'll die on that hill. I kinda just skimmed through it because it was annoying me so much lol
__Pratik_2026-01-30 20:54
>So the siblings came to Teyvat before but their memory was wiped? Why? What purpose does this serve narratively other than to make an already very confusing story even more obtuse?
It's only confusing if you ain't paying basic attention. It quite literally serves one of the biggest narrative purpose and affects the overall story pretty heavily.
ouyon2026-01-30 16:11
Yes it changes our understanding of things by answering some questions
__Pratik_2026-01-30 20:55
Nothing really changes. It just re contextualises stuff.
