Five minutes into Lantern Rite and already there's bizarre text and audio issues. Did the QA team quit?

The same line is repeated in text twice as part of the main Lantern Rite story quest, a Lantern Rite that is going to become permanent content.
The first version of the line has the character discussing eating bad stew, while the on-screen dialogue talks about being short a few perches.
A few lines later and the same NPC speaks up, with the same on-screen dialogue repeated with it actually matching the line. But it's more or less just a rewording of the same joke about perches and her being crazy.
What did these lines actually say in Chinese? I can't help but feel like some team messed up here.
**Edit:** Two minutes later and Xingqiu voice actor says *"but the word* **Lang-Gan** *popped up as well."* On screen text says *"but the word* '**jade**' *popped up as well."* It makes no sense for Xingqiu to say 'jade' here given they're trying to give importance to the city name. These errors are so distracting.
All I expect is that the QA team actually listens to and reads the main story quest. Are they mashing through the quest?

Lang-Gan is just a old fancy term for beautiful jade. That's the thing.
The perch lines is just the same joke twice in Chinese. That's the joke.

Given these are audio and dialogue errors and not something lost in translation I don't believe you.
SubstantialYak65722026-01-30 20:19
Have you never heard the sayings "A few cans short of a six-pack" or "A few sandwiches short of a picnic"? They're valid sayings and they mean that someone's not all there, so the irony might very well be that he says the same thing twice, because he's not all there either.
Don't mistake bugs for what could be your ignorance or lack of understanding... and I'm going more for the latter.

I'm so glad that people like you keep posting things like this. I'm happy to block every single one of you for having no reading comprehension. I just click one button and I never have to see or interact with any of you any again.
I clearly outlined what the two text and audio issues were and yet you illiterate people keep coming out of the woodwork to defend every single thing about the game, even things that are objectively wrong. What a waste of a human experience.

Believe it or not, games can be flawless in QA testing and have bugs like this appear *after* QA.
Edit: OP blocked me for actually understanding that bugs don't always appear in QA

Bugs? Impossible clearly this was intentionally missed /s
HereForGames2026-01-30 17:49
I knew this handwaving comment was coming.
That works for some offhand line an optional NPC in the harbor would make. Five minutes into the main story quest isn't justifiable for a game like this to have two major dialogue errors in the span of two minutes. It cheapens the experience when unmissable mistakes like this pop up that every single player will see during the opening of Lantern Rite.

Because you blocked him for simply giving you information, thus preventing him from elaborating, I will continue in his stead.
When you go from the dev build to the live build, sometimes things don't always stick together. Considering genshin is typically very good at keeping bugs out, it is not out of the question to assume this was something that appeared AFTER QA, and it is not something for you to lose your mind over and block people for simply giving a theory.
What's next, you gonna reply and block me too so I can't respond?
EDIT: And yep. OP blocked me too.

Sounds like she’s a few perches short of a stew, if you know what I mean…

I wonder if some of the staff has been pulled to help salvage Star Rail after the Benzaitengoku incident
HereForGames2026-01-30 17:53
The what incident? All I've heard about Star Rail is that the last years main storyline spins its wheels jabbering on with tremendous amounts of dialogue and people were largely skipping it.
allmistake22026-01-30 17:56
So their next region, 4.x was gonna be cyber punk Japan, but the before the patch before it goes live (3.8), China announces a ban on all Japanese culture because their governments are fighting again (just verbally so far). Star rail then had to suddenly delay all the livestreams and drip marketing, remove all references to benzaitengoku (the teased name of the next planet) and has extended the next patch by two weeks, presumably as emergency remedial measures to get the next patch compliant. Given how long major updates in genshin take, star rail potentially just lost 15 months of work over a political decision.
HereForGames2026-01-30 17:59
Wow, you would think they would get an exemption from the government given it was already designed and ready to go, and how much money Mihoyo generates. That's a death knell for a game with this sort of carefully calculated budget and planning.
allmistake22026-01-30 18:00
Yeah, but this is the CCP we are talking about. A Japanese singer was literally pulled off the stage and kicked out mid performance because the order was announced during her concert.
Bluetooth_Speaker12026-01-30 17:47
I can't believe bugs just happen sometimes like this, literally unplayable >:((
takenusername50012026-01-30 17:47
was it the same guy saying it twice or the friend sitting next to him agreeing with him the second time
LettuceBenis2026-01-30 18:26
Isn't this literally just a joke? The punchline being that he says the exact same thing twice
