In addition to what others said...if you read what the characters do in their abilities, it should become pretty clear which ones are intended to be support-type characters and how they do it. But Keqingmains is definitely a good place to start getting a handle on things.

There are a lot of very niche supports, and especially in recent patches, a lot of DPS that want very specific supports. A lot of synergies are based on specific elemental reactions, attack types, or stats.
Especially if you're new to the game, and don't have a lot of characters or constellations yet, your team building possibilities are probably quite limited. Getting a grip on what characters want what stats is a good start.
