That’s not quite right… (Lantern Rite Quest 1 minor spoiler)
Not only are they not miles apart, they aren’t even 1 mile away. (.95 miles)
Distances in this game feel so much larger than they actually are. The scale could easily triple and it would feel more realistic.
Edit: For clarification, I’m only suggesting changing the numerical scale of the game, so the 1500 meter on the overlay would instead be 4500 meters. I’m not suggesting making the physical world larger.

*easily* though? This game was initially designed as mobile friendly, and while it's obviously moved past that at this stage, it's kind of hard to retroactively scale everything up without straight up rewriting a lot of the games code.
Even if you want to go through all that trouble, rewriting size this late into the game essentially means rewriting the game's code and rebuilding it from the ground up. It's not worth it and you might as well make a new game at that point. Exploration-wise, it also makes it far more difficult for players to scale cliffs or terrain that is already somewhat challenging enough at existing scale.
And if that's difficult and the plan is to just change the numbers, you will address the distance issues relative to NPCs, but then you also introduce the issue of distance relative to what we know about human movement. Jogging in the game now is about 10 kph (at least on how fast the meter number decreases to an objective). Let's say you keep that pace but multiply the number, it's no longer realistic that a character starts jogging at 30 kph. At that point it no longer makes sense to the player.
There is nothing fun about traversing empty geography. Nothing. This is why people start losing their damn minds in the American West and doing things like building giant fiberglass cows on the roadside or putting up hundreds of miles of signs for a drugstore.* It is the ONLY THING TO SEE.
You don’t want this kind of scale in games purely for the sake of “realism.” Trust me.
*Look up Wall Drug sometime. It’s an experience.
