I cant choose a main so how did you choose yours?

Previously i was a hu tao main and now columbina but i genuinely cannot choose ARGH!!

if you want, you can help me choose! here are some stuff that i rlly like and stuff that i like in characters

1. i love character design! in genshin, i love more of the og character designs but i really dont mind lol
2. i prefer female characters
3. i like kpop + jpop and all that idol-y stuff so yeah!! A character who likes singing and/or dancing, or if you just see them being good at it
4. i also rlly like drawing
5. i like silly personalities like hu tao i guess? but i also love like rlly good character lore like Furina (this doesnt rlly matter but yk)
6. i love fashion!!

Feel free to say how you choose yours or give me tips or even recommend characters for me based off of what i said. :D

Mains don't really exist in Genshin like they do in hero shooters and other games where you typically need to commit to one build or character. People just refer to themselves as mains for certain characters in Genshin because they're their favorites or their most invested character. You can cycle through multiple characters and multiple mains depending on circumstance; you don't have to commit to just one.

You may have not found your main yet and that’s totally awesome!! I main Itto, I fell in love with his character when I first started the game and have him at C3. I liked his design and character story because I aligned with his (level headed) beliefs about the red oni and blue oni story. Sometimes all it takes is a first glance, other times it might take a slow burn to realise you like a specific character, but you’ll totally know when you know!! Enjoy the journey 🫶

Honestly I just like characters I think are cool or have really nice designs.

My first main in 1.1 was Razor, then Beidou, then whatever I could through the hyperblooom meta, and now Lauma is my main DPS. I did stick to meta only somewhat, brute forcing my way through bosses using the same teams which has bitten me sometimes, but is fun and challenging

If you want OG designs Beidou is still decent, not the best sure but for you I do see her filling the OG designs, female character, and imo decent lore. Eula is another good choice if you have her especially with Temper Thyself, you can get some decent cons, relatively OG design, good lore, dancer etc.

idrk what i mean by og designs lol- i think it mainly has to do with the color scheme and hair tho. like columbina and nefer WOULD NOT COUNT but hu tao and chiori fit perfectly!! and varesa is sorta a inbetween... ik this is not at all og designs but i feel like the og designs do better at it than the newer designs which is why i said og lol. I used to rlly want eula but then gave up realizing shed prolly never get another rerun lol... now i dont like her as much. Beidou is sort of mid to me though, i dont exactly like her design and whatever. Thank you for your input!!

Well, Wriothesley is cute. Wriothesley is hot. Wriothesley does punch punch. Wriothesley i goth. Wriothesley has great lore. Wriothesley is why I got the game... I also main Baizhu because of all these reasons. And I will main Varka because all of these reasons.

i wasnt really interested in flins before nodkrai, never thought i would actually pull for him and his weapon
then.. just right after doing the 6.0 nodkrai quest, i fell in love with him! fast forward to now with c2r1 flins

ig its just: you dont find your main, your main finds you. At least thats what happened with me lol

At different times, I’ve referred to myself as an Ayaka, Nahida, Furina, Kuki Shinobu, and Chiori main. In truth, I regularly play with all of them, but I consider which ever one I’m enjoying in the moment as my “main.”

In terms of how I choose, I go for beauty/grace (eg Chiori), emotional “oomph” (eg Nahida, Furina), or badassness (Kuki).

Arlecchino, she was one of the first characters that stood out to me when I started learning a little about all the characters. She seemed very cool and fun so I waited to pull for her, then got her and I find her gameplay incredibly nice and very forgiving. I haven't really pulled other characters for her to build specific teams, but I've picked up a couple 4 stars for her here and there and run a comfy overload team now. 😌

My main is that character I find myself using a lot more than any other because I find using it a lot more enjoyable or convenient than using any other character. It just happens, I don’t choose it.

My main was Childe that I got in 2.x, until I got Wanderer in 3.x that remained my main until 5.x. I was using them more than 99% of the time in their respective period and they taught me what a main was for me. Now my main is Chasca.

Arlecchino became my main because I’m still my edgy 9 year old self at heart so her scythe, her blood related powers, and her wings made me fall in love. I will also main Flins for the same reasons, I just think he’s too cool.

I have "favourite character writing-wise", "Spiral Abyss go-tos", etc., sure, but I don't really main anyone
The rankings also move around quite a bit

The closest would probably be Hu Tao where I generally quite liked her as a character, and she carried my Abyss from 1.3 all the way to 4.7, and she was one of my go-to teams for exploration from 1.3 to around 4.3, especially in combo with Yelan's exploration skill

Neuvi became a Spiral Abyss staple on his 4.1 release, while Clorinde replaced Hu Tao in 4.7. My Abyss teams have been musical chairs since that 4.7 patch

Even my fav character ranking changes around over the past several years, and I've never had a true favourite, characters that have entered my "Fav" category at some point would be Mona, Fischl, Klee, Ganyu, Hu Tao, Eula, Yoimiya, Raiden, Shenhe, Miko, Kuki, Nilou, Nahida, Neuvillette, Furina, Chevreuse, Navia, Mualani, Xilonen, Chasca, Citlali, Mavuika, Varesa, Skirk, Ineffa, Lauma, Jahoda, Columbina

Currently, I really can't pick a true fav among Hu Tao, Raiden, Nahida and Columbina
Them showing up on screen gives me instant joy

I saw diluc, fell in love, and stayed. Okay on a more genuine note, I favor diluc the most (even if I don't use him all the time), because I'm the beginning i was pulling for hu tao I think? I lost the 50/50 but didn't know what that was so I wasn't mad. I stayed with him and got used to him, loved him, married him. I actually did get hu tao but she's been at level 60 ever since because I didn't know how to use her and I just liked diluc more. So that's how I chose my main

For me it was mainly their personality and accompanying story that made me consider maining them

Character designs and how fun it feels to play them were also influencing factors, though not as big as the first ones

My mains have been: itto (C6R1, triple crowned), wriothesley (C1R1, triple crowned) and kaveh (C6, triple crowned)

I had budding romantic feelings for her, so it was pretty easy to choose.

She was my main in 3.0, 4 patches before i even had her. She's still my main now.

Main = any character you like lol. You can hyperinvest in some characters if you really like them. But I would recommend to stop at C2R1 and invest in their supports / roll for new supports.

We dont have mains, we have chars that we like and we pull for them, any endgame requires more than a team so theres no "main something", you just like a character more than the others.

My favorite char since 1.0 is Klee but Im a c6 Furina haver as a f2p, am I a Furina main? No, was I playing Klee much before the buffs? Also no lol

I have two teams that are decently built; FFXX and Flins Premium. I mained C6R1 Xiao from January 2025 up until I got C6R1 Flins. Switched to Flins from his banner release up until the 30th December but I’ve gone back to primarily using Xiao. I generally only use Flins when I want to get through things quickly.

I enjoy Xiao’s gameplay and he’s my favourite so that’s pretty much why I’ve stuck with him for so long.

I can’t stick with one Character for a main, I switch between whoever I feel like and right now, it’s Columbina until I feel otherwise 😅😅😅🤭🤭🤭
