Gaming is literally THE sheet merchant DPS, given that Miliastra Wonderland testing dummy showcases is built to showcase the perfect optimal situations to help you see consistent DPS. Let's look at a couple of issues with this team:
- Circle Impact: The enemy moves out half an inch out of Bennett burst range or Rosaria burst range and your rotation is instantly bricked. You can solve the Rosaria issue by pulling Citlali but replacing Bennett is harder. Losing his burst buff tanks your DPS. Gaming himself can also miss plunges, which tanks your rotations' DPS.
- Energy: This team is literally an energy blackhole, which means you need to build a fuck ton of ER on everyone. If you miss a single plunge on Gaming, you will literally lose energy for your whole team since he only generates particles when he hits plunges. Solo Electro Iansan and solo Cryo Citlali/Rosaria also have insane ER requirements. Given that you start with 0 energy in SO, you will need to run 180-200%+ on EVERY member of the team just to get consistent rotations, especially since you need to prepare for situtations when the enemies stalls, dodges your attacks or becomes invulnerable, which gimps your energy generation. Building Gaming also becomes much harder when you need to balance crit/ATK/EM stats with getting enough ER.
He is a very good character, but people love seeing big numbers with cool low cost showcases and ignoring practical game scenarios. When you play Arlecchino or Neuv, it is almost impossible to miss your damage windows since they have large AoE and are not energy hungry. Gaming has a ton of caveats when it comes to CONSISTENT play and you need to play him with the mentality of being willing to reset. A lot of things can go wrong while playing Gaming, which makes his "sheet DPS" and test dummy showcase less realistic.

Feel free to explain to me how losing DPS from losing a couple of hits from Arlecchino's NAs or a couple of ticks of Neuv's CA is equivalent to losing whole ass plunges from Gaming. When enemies move, Arlecchino tracks them with her NAs and Neuv has a massive AoE. What does Gaming have? If he misses, he loses like 20% DPS on a rotation. Arlecchino and Neuv do not. It is just that simple.

Are we being serious? Not knowing how to dodge is obviously a skill issue and a DPS loss. You know you can just dodge on Arlecchino right? It's not like she has specific combos. Also, you know you can use Neuv's range to just move out of the way of enemy attack patterns right? These actions is up to the player - you can rectify these "DPS losses" by literally playing better. You can't "play better" and not make enemies move out of your Gaming plunges/Bennett buff/Rosaria Cryo app you know.
The ER issues is also not just about Citlali, its about the WHOLE team, including Gaming himself. Everyone has high ER requirements in that team, which makes building damage stats harder. In Arlecchino Melt, only Citlali has real ER requirements since you can funnel particles from Arle to Bennett and everyone else (Sucrose or Xilonen, Arlecchino herself) do not need to burst.
Also, Arlecchino has teams like Overload which are much more player-proof with similar output to Melt. It is okay to acknowledge that two truths can coexist at the same time: that Gaming is a very good character AND that he has gameplay issues that makes his practical output less than his theoretical sheet output.

you should always Q -> E on gaming. you pretty much get an extra plunge for free that way.
one thing i learned just recently myself is if youre doing just the ordinary running around chasing man chai, dont sprint as soon as you can to catch man chai. sprint at the very last second as soon as man chai is about halfway to the ground, just a little above your head and aim your sprint to catch him. if you sprint too early, even if you catch him you have to wait for the awkward sprint animation delay until you can immediately plunge, if you sprint at the last second, it kinda skips the animation and you plunge faster.

He's pair-bonded to Bennett so they can funnel each other and use their skills twice in the first rotation, his C4 restores energy on E and not just in Q state, and his skill generates 2 particles per 3s so his particle generation isn't too dead outside of Q state either.
The Cryo in the team is probably the most starved for energy, although they're also free to just build all the ER they need.

it's a great question! so far no one in here has got it, because they don't play gaming but still feel the need to be incorrect in public. it's a technique called juggling.
when gaming's ult is cast and hits, his little suanni companion, man chai, is launched and runs back towards him. when gaming picks him up (either by running into him or waiting for him to come back), it resets his skill cooldown. every time gaming connects with his skill plunge during his ult, it will subsequently launch man chai (there is one exception to this. but don't worry about it).
normally, you can just skill->plunge directly without waiting, wait/run to man chai, and loop. the time spent doing this lasts longer than the time between rosaria's ult ticks, as well as characters like citlali, and is perfectly consistent.
by waiting for a bit after gaming launches himself into in the air, you can reduce man chai's overall travel time by intercepting him with gaming's plunge. the reason for the delay is because man chai needs to "land" after being launched before it starts returning to gaming. even without perfect gameplay, just maintaining the juggle for the first couple plunges is enough to squeeze in an extra plunge or so with his ult and it adds a really nice rhythm to his gameplay.

The same mavuika team with c0 mavuika, 4 star weapon, same C6 iansan and Bennett but citlali instead(which is fair cause it makes up for c6 gaming and r5 hook) sheets 150k DPs *just with her basic 2(3CF) combo. Which anyone can do, litteraly just hold and released charged attacks. If you can do some more advanced combos, the ceiling is around 180k ish.

PSA, because this does make a difference in damage: This person's using R5 Fruitful Hook. It's a gacha banner 4\*, which means you most likely do not have this in your account, let alone R5, if you've never rolled on the limited weapon banners or have extremely bad luck. Your best bet outside of Fruitful Hook will be, according to Keqing Mains's website and GamingMains\_, Serpent Spine of equal refinement when prestacked. Not sheet merchants like C0 RO White Tassel melt Arle with high BOL (dw i love her) and C0 R0 Nuev hypercarry see thats easy to do
But seriously Gaming is better than 80+% of dpses in the game and has very high end verticals on his supports.
- Circle Impact: The enemy moves out half an inch out of Bennett burst range or Rosaria burst range and your rotation is instantly bricked. You can solve the Rosaria issue by pulling Citlali but replacing Bennett is harder. Losing his burst buff tanks your DPS. Gaming himself can also miss plunges, which tanks your rotations' DPS.
- Energy: This team is literally an energy blackhole, which means you need to build a fuck ton of ER on everyone. If you miss a single plunge on Gaming, you will literally lose energy for your whole team since he only generates particles when he hits plunges. Solo Electro Iansan and solo Cryo Citlali/Rosaria also have insane ER requirements. Given that you start with 0 energy in SO, you will need to run 180-200%+ on EVERY member of the team just to get consistent rotations, especially since you need to prepare for situtations when the enemies stalls, dodges your attacks or becomes invulnerable, which gimps your energy generation. Building Gaming also becomes much harder when you need to balance crit/ATK/EM stats with getting enough ER.
He is a very good character, but people love seeing big numbers with cool low cost showcases and ignoring practical game scenarios. When you play Arlecchino or Neuv, it is almost impossible to miss your damage windows since they have large AoE and are not energy hungry. Gaming has a ton of caveats when it comes to CONSISTENT play and you need to play him with the mentality of being willing to reset. A lot of things can go wrong while playing Gaming, which makes his "sheet DPS" and test dummy showcase less realistic.

Feel free to explain to me how losing DPS from losing a couple of hits from Arlecchino's NAs or a couple of ticks of Neuv's CA is equivalent to losing whole ass plunges from Gaming. When enemies move, Arlecchino tracks them with her NAs and Neuv has a massive AoE. What does Gaming have? If he misses, he loses like 20% DPS on a rotation. Arlecchino and Neuv do not. It is just that simple.

Are we being serious? Not knowing how to dodge is obviously a skill issue and a DPS loss. You know you can just dodge on Arlecchino right? It's not like she has specific combos. Also, you know you can use Neuv's range to just move out of the way of enemy attack patterns right? These actions is up to the player - you can rectify these "DPS losses" by literally playing better. You can't "play better" and not make enemies move out of your Gaming plunges/Bennett buff/Rosaria Cryo app you know.
The ER issues is also not just about Citlali, its about the WHOLE team, including Gaming himself. Everyone has high ER requirements in that team, which makes building damage stats harder. In Arlecchino Melt, only Citlali has real ER requirements since you can funnel particles from Arle to Bennett and everyone else (Sucrose or Xilonen, Arlecchino herself) do not need to burst.
Also, Arlecchino has teams like Overload which are much more player-proof with similar output to Melt. It is okay to acknowledge that two truths can coexist at the same time: that Gaming is a very good character AND that he has gameplay issues that makes his practical output less than his theoretical sheet output.

one thing i learned just recently myself is if youre doing just the ordinary running around chasing man chai, dont sprint as soon as you can to catch man chai. sprint at the very last second as soon as man chai is about halfway to the ground, just a little above your head and aim your sprint to catch him. if you sprint too early, even if you catch him you have to wait for the awkward sprint animation delay until you can immediately plunge, if you sprint at the last second, it kinda skips the animation and you plunge faster.

It just suck that HoYo decided to crippled energy reliant units like him with Stygian for whatever reason.
The Cryo in the team is probably the most starved for energy, although they're also free to just build all the ER they need.
when gaming's ult is cast and hits, his little suanni companion, man chai, is launched and runs back towards him. when gaming picks him up (either by running into him or waiting for him to come back), it resets his skill cooldown. every time gaming connects with his skill plunge during his ult, it will subsequently launch man chai (there is one exception to this. but don't worry about it).
normally, you can just skill->plunge directly without waiting, wait/run to man chai, and loop. the time spent doing this lasts longer than the time between rosaria's ult ticks, as well as characters like citlali, and is perfectly consistent.
by waiting for a bit after gaming launches himself into in the air, you can reduce man chai's overall travel time by intercepting him with gaming's plunge. the reason for the delay is because man chai needs to "land" after being launched before it starts returning to gaming. even without perfect gameplay, just maintaining the juggle for the first couple plunges is enough to squeeze in an extra plunge or so with his ult and it adds a really nice rhythm to his gameplay.
