Is there a reason why this part in Sumeru is so...Empty?

Because hoyo doesn't want to give anymore primos
Gakamis2026-02-01 10:03
because it was released later in one of the Fontaine updates, and hoyo was lazy and didn't put anything there.

It was blocked off with the "Paimon border" before the last area of Fontaine (the island Petrichor and surrounding watter) was in the game, so it only became available nearly two years after that part of Sumeru was explorable, and the devs just never bothered with putting anything there. I think there are 3 chests around the small port area and that's it.
It's really a shame since it's quite a large area to explore, not worth exploring because it is so empty.

people theorized that area is near the gate to Khaenri'ah. maybe in the future they'll transform those area for story reason.

Because it wasn't originally a "part of Sumeru".
It's literally just filler between where Sumeru was and the new Fontaine map.
perfectchaos832026-02-01 10:12
No one knows, but technically, if they wanted to completely change parts of the map, that's one of the areas to do it.

Its filled with my hopes and dreams

Tsaritsa's gonna crash Celestia into Teyvat. That's where it'll land.
Tsevion2026-02-01 10:16
It is essentially an out of bounds area that ended up between two live areas. And I think they felt it was too small to keep out of bounds, but it's still essentially an out of bounds area, no loot, no enemies, no details.
phonograhy2026-02-01 10:22
2029: its where celestia about to crash land.
SubstantialYak65722026-02-01 10:24
It's just a transitional area to bridge the gap between Sumeru and Fontaine, it serves its purpose, it doesn't need to be anything more than that.
Detective_Mint862026-02-01 10:24
It's a huge "transition area" though
RomanoffBlitzer2026-02-01 10:30
Opportunity cost. Time spent developing this part of the map is time not spent developing other parts of the map. They clearly had a plan and this wasn't part of it.

because MHY was lazy and just needed the filler area to "finish", instead of letting it just stay covered with the star fog, until they just want to give that area serious content >.>
But maybe hopefully one day they remember that empty useless area and fill it finalyl up with some content for some kimnd of event, or just put a fucking boss/domain and some monsters/guarded chests there to find, so that people at least get finally SOME reasons for exploring that small area
NemesisCat72026-02-01 11:07
Wish they would at least at some basic plants and wildlife, it would help it feel a little more alive
Even though this area is weirdly barren I would be happy if they did the same thing to fix where Sumeru and Natlan meet.
External_Cucumber932026-02-01 11:17
They don’t leave spaces empty for no reason usually
Ravemst2026-02-01 13:05
Just like in the real world there are just empty places.
Karuro2026-02-01 14:03
Layla's village was supposed to be there iirc.
Least I remember someone mentioning that before.
DrkSpde2026-02-01 15:30
It's not *completely* empty. There are a bunch of cairns with with mora along that path and some treasure horders at the end. Pretty sure an even quest involved the place once too.
