How do you guys find these lanterns from other people? Are they from friends who send them to you or are they lanterns that randomly appear in others' worlds? I know there are normal and gift lanterns, and I interpreted it as the normal lanterns appear randomly and the gift lanterns can be sent, but I am not sure that is correct, and I haven't seen any lanterns appear in my world yet.

It's other player's lanterns in the server that spawn in your world.
Interacting with them will progress rewards for the event, and you placing yours and other player's interacting with it will do the same.

Does placement in your own world affect where the other players will see your lanterns? I placed mine in almost inaccessible areas unless you have Chasca or Hat guy..
