They have been already working on it. If you watch the specials program they said they already have some event quest back to be replayable and more to come.

The story is permanent, but all the rewards and minigames will be removed so you may still want to come back. There’s also some small interactions with a bunch of characters in the city that probably aren’t permanent because they aren’t part of the quest.

Yeah it wasn't the same for me either. I switched back to en afterwards even with the mute voices. I'm not familiar enough with Chinese to understand the nuances in the tone and cadence of its speech. And the lip sync wasn't all that it was cracked up to be

Quite literally the only thing that still had me thinking that this must be a fakeout is that it's a limited event. I know Genshin is infamous for literally not killing a single playable character, but if there was a day to come where this curse breaks, it would be very bad if they did that in a limited event, because then newer players wouldn't understand why certain characters are now considered dead when there is no quest where they die.

If last year's Lantern Rite was permanent like the current one, then I would have also been shooketh and think that she actually died.

There’s something that makes me wonder. The Traveller is immune to fate, so they’ve prevented people like Hu Tao from dying at a time when they were supposedly fated to. Does that mean they no longer have fate dictating their future, or would fate rewrite that person’s destiny to something else in the future?

I agree with you so much. The last Lantern Rite was special to me. It was about Hu Tao and I was so happy to see her getting her character developing event. And how she saved everyone by sacrificing herself in the end? This was so brave and strong. I absolutely adore her. I’m so happy we were able to save her there and now she’s here THIS Lantern Rite, making cute comments and singing cute songs to us all.
Last Lantern Rite was PEAK, but I think each and every one is just better than the last one. Though I’ll still be biased towards the 5.3 one cause of Hu Tao ;)

I don't know why everyone was so attached to this one. Gaming's was much better at introducing a new character and getting me to care about them. All the death flags fell on deaf ears for Hu Tao because... she's a playable character, they won't kill her off, so I had no reason to care about any of what was happening because I know at the end of it all she'd just be fine and dandy regardless.
