This year's Lantern Rite is way too early.

The first Lantern Rite was on Feb 10th, 2021. Tet (Lunar New Year) was on the 12th, so the Lantern Rite questline lasted throughout the entire festival.

The second Lantern Rite in 2022 had its last quest (with the cutscene) on Jan 31st, exactly 1 day before the actual Lunar New Year.

The 2024 and 2025 Lantern Rites are the same as the 2022 Lantern Rite, both having its last quest with the celebration and setting off lanterns cutscene at the final day before the actual Lunar New Year.

But this year? Lunar New Year is on February 17th, yet the questline ends on February 3rd. That makes it **TWO WEEKS** too early.

The streets in real life aren't even decorated yet. The bells and chimes aren't hung on the yellow apricot blossoms. Heck, they aren't even blooming yet. The peach blossoms haven't started blossoming either. The markets aren't full of people selling flowers. Nobody is setting off firecrackers, and the neighbors aren't blasting Tet music all day.

It just feels so wrong to have Lantern Rite not line up with the actual Lunar New Year this year. Teyvat is celebrating, but in real life that atmosphere isn't even here yet.

Anyway, thank you for listening to my little rant. Happy Lantern Rite!

Whenever is happens, it's always at the Rite Time.

The real life lunar new year falls right about where we go from the current patch to the next, and since they undoubtedly also want to give people plenty of time to do the event, quest and its minigames they can't just abruptly cut it off after only like a week. Conversely it'd be just as weird if lantern rite started like 1½ week after the real life event had passed

It's just an unfortunate byproduct of the rigid 6 week patch cycle

Yeah as good as Genshin's team is at making things fall right where they should be. This is probably one of the times where it isn't negotiable.

Possibly due to Zibai and wanting her origin story out before she is released so she gets more pulls

NipsLover2026-02-01 20:58

Yeah imagine Zibai releases and we don't understand anything about her until like two weeks later.

so? who cares

Lantern rite ≠ new year
Teyvat ≠ Earth

Deliberate choice not to copy real life events 1:1 for immersion reasons.

there wouldn't be enough time before the end of the patch if they didn't start it early. If it didn't start 2 weeks early, we'd only get one week for it which is not enough for a flagship event.
