Stygian Onslaught curious how the community feels after implementation
After attempting Malefic and only managing to beat one boss out of 3 (ended up with no good characters for the other ones) I got stuck, I gotta ask, are the potential weapon skins and feathers even worth it?
How do most of the community feels about this game mode? I am gonna be honest, this doesn't look like a free to play mode at all, I think I only beat that specific boss on malefic cause I got a lvl 95 Koko.
Kokomi is my only C6 btw, I am free to play and spent all my gens on her first banner, then used themper thyself recently to get her to 95. Ouch my fingers hurt like hell... I don't even want to imagine how nightmare and dire mode are like...
The team I used was Furina, Kokomi, Lauma and Fischl, I barely suceeded at Killing that damn fire crab on malefic. I kinda needed Fischl for the shield guy so I basically softlocked myself sadly, stygian feels very restrictive.

Get the primos and get out
Having them all start with burst would help a lot, especially on the first current floor, that abyss dog or whatever would be shreded by my Venti if Venti started with his burst...
Makes 80% of the cast almost not even worth using. Me finding out that out of ALL my hydro characters, only Furina (and now Bina) have consistent hydro application not burst reliant, and not stationary/ longer cooldown than uptime.
Yes. it is very shilled and u need heavy investment and sweatiest plays if u r not using intended team. Some might like it. For me, it's a challenge every time. Yes, excessive anxiety is real. I know it is kind of self-imposed.
Only good thing is that the primos are at upto hard and that is doable by any account that have cleared spiral abyss. Also, menacing is coopable.
overall, Hoyo has tread the line very carefully and satisfied both casuals and sweats.
I do up to difficulty 4.
Then just clear the domains for a set I want till the 1200 limit.
Could care less about the higher difficulties at time honestly.
I like that fearless is possible with weaker/non shilled characters with good enough gameplay, and that dire is possible with c0r1 characters with good enough gameplay (as long as they are good at a baseline and/or shilled). The rewards for menacing and up are I think the best scenario, artifact min maxers for the next highest two (very few in the community actually care about using these) and non-fomo weapon skins for the highest difficulty (a reward with ultimately no actual impact but still very unique and cool for those who do beat the hardest challenge).
That said, I think this cycle is the start of a potentially bad trend in that now fearless is becoming much harder or borderline impossible if you don't own the shill. For the first time I don't think I'm able to clear fearless because I skipped all lunar stuff and I don't have Mualani/Neuvillette for the crab.
I also think there is an argument to be made for no energy on start because the mode has kind of become favonius weapon propaganda. On the other hand though it ultimately puts more of an emphasis on energy management and I think that should still be the case. Some bosses will give you energy by various means which is a good step, but it can still feel tedious for others.
Overall though, good mode, it could have been WAY worse in so many ways. And even if fearless does become harder, the primos are what matter, and anyone can clear them. Clearing Dire for the first time last cycle with c0r1 dps is one of the best feelings I've had playing this game.
So if you're not stressing over certain standard for yourself, hard mode Stygian Onslaught clear is easier than full 12 stages clear of Imaginarium Theater. And we have more primo to lose in Imaginarium Theater should we fail to get the Stella from arcanum stages /floor 10.
i only play genshin for the combat nowadays (perma stunned in fountaine’s archon quest) so it’s something to do every month for an hour or two.
i started developing resentment since the lunar shilled bosses (i lost my 50/50 on lauma so my nefer team is ass), but i’ve been able to find workarounds using older teams.
the no energy sucks since it requires changing builds and weapons but i have the artifacts for that so it’s just a hassle.
i can understand why people hate it but for me, i like challenges and my account has always been focused on min maxing since day one so it’s fine
To me Stygian is just a more efficient artifact farming event after that.
I like it, honestly. Not bad at all. The difficulty requires good rotation and good teams, not just "good teams", but correct teams and correct rotations.
I used Columbina, Nefer, Lauma and Barbara/Fischl/Sucrose and it was still extremely hard to do. And yet people claim it's easy with those characters.
I don't try the last 2 modes because I don't like min maxing, I actually prefer to use the characters I want and rarely change weapons or artifacts after they are built, so honestly going against what's fun for me just for the challenge is not so interesting.
I'm more the type that has to slot Dehya, Chiori or Rosaria in one of the teams to be happy.
It's a great boost to artifact farming and also it's insanely fun to do it coop.
It's exciting queueing for hard and then people start menacing. Seeing everyone try different comps and all, going hard for it is really amusing. In some cases it helps us understand more team composition too.
If you're a completionist and you didn't pull the right characters you're going to be mad. If you only care about the primos and you're ok with missing out on a few dust, it's no big loss.
I'm not sure what you mean with malefic difficulty, there may be a translation issue. Personally I play fearless (the second to last difficulty, with lv105 bosses) and so far I have managed to always complete it, although just barely for some of the bosses. I am currently f2p, but I have been playing since 1.0 and I used to pay for welkin and BP before the power creep and shilling got so bad, so I have a lot of characters at my disposal, though no C6 or anything. I have a few characters at C1-C2, and I do not have any signature weapons except for Skirk's, Varesa's and Nilou's.
Honestly to me it's more of a completion thing. I don't really use the feathers because I don't find artifacts worth using them on in the first place lol. And I'm someone who always "saves them for the perfect occasion" and ends up amassing lots of them... I do enjoy a challenge but like I said before, this game mode feels less like a challenge and more like a checklist in my opinion. If I have the characters it's super easy, if I don't it's torture. The moment I can't complete fearless for the first time and I lose my completionist streak is the moment I stop caring about it.
You can tell Mihoyo pretty much only implemented it to quell the demand for "real endgame content", primos are incredibly easy to get compared to the Abyss and IT, and it's treated more like an event rather than a permanent game mode with no map icon. I hope people who wanted it are happy with it, but it's just not for me.
