Ningguang, someone at the very highest of positions in Liyue, told us that the archon war abate (ended) 2000 years ago, but now Zhongli is just saying that he kind of got help from Zibai 1000 years ago. Thats kind of a big 1000 year difference

Just went to check, in CN its 千年前, which could be understood as one thousand or thousands. So I'd say in this case its just a translation error.

Genshin isn't just a slot machine that spits out pretty girls and handsome guys, and approaching it with that perspective is doing yourself and it a disservice. I, for one, love and care about the open world exploration, the music, and the lore and story far more than I do the gacha.

From what other people have said in the comments, Zhongli's comment in CN could be read as either "one thousand" *or* "thousands," multiple.

Things like this *happen* in translation, no matter how skilled the team is. If you've ever bothered to look at the patch notes, you'll occasionally see "optimizes the lines for so-and-so in such and such language/s." That's fixing both bad line reads and translation errors such as this one.

Also, I've seen the view that "the lore is unimportant flavor text" expressed twice now, and TBH, I just... don't get it. The lore has always provided a lot of context and detail for both the world and the main plot, and now it's being directly integrated a lot more often (take the Moon Goddesses, or the War of Funerary Flame). Or is something only important to you when it's happening at that exact moment?

Ningguang probably only has the knowledge that was passed down through the ages, so what she knows has probably been distorted here and there. Zhongli was there, though, and I think he's more reliable as a primary source.

That being said, it could also be that Zhongli considered the war to be ongoing much longer? We do know Liyue has a lot of dead gods, so maybe he had to keep fighting stragglers a whole millennium after it was really over?

Hmm, not really, it's simply a mistranslation; in CN it's translated as "thousand" or "thousands" of years, there's not much difference between singular and plural. Although it is true that Zibai helped Morax 1000 years ago against Azhdaha.

Abate doesn't mean end,it means it became less intense or reduce. so Ninguang probably means it calmed down 2000 years ago but Zhongli's line suggest it was active after that both could be true
